This book was released on 2017-07-23 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline History of the Roman Empire (44 B. C. To 378 A. D.) This little book is written to meet a need that I believe exists in many college mediaeval history classes. Experience in my own teaching work con vinces me that to understand the Middle Ages it is necessary to know something of the progress and fall of that great Empire whence feudal Europe issued, and no compact and practical sketch, suitable for the study of the average student, has come to hand. Hence the present outline history. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Author : Titus Livius Livy
  • Publisher : Digireads.Com
  • Release : 2011
  • ISBN : 9781420941036
  • Pages : 358 pages

Download or read book The History of Rome written by Titus Livius Livy and published by Digireads.Com. This book was released on 2011 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Titus Livius (59 BCE - 17 CE), known as Livy, was a Roman teacher, writer and historian, and friend of the Emperor Augustus. Livy was a teenager during the time of civil wars throughout the Roman world, was educated in philosophy and rhetoric, and moved to Rome sometime in the 30s BC. After working as a teacher of rhetoric, he decided to forego teaching and write a history of the city. Using only traditions, official temple annals (which weren't entirely reliable) and personal records of illustrious families, Livy attempted to compile the most complete history of Rome from its creation to the reign of Tiberius. Nearly eight centuries of history originally comprised 142 books, of which barely a quarter have survived. Nevertheless, this monumental work paints a colorful picture of the grandeur of Rome; it is as much a narration as it is a history, and provides a fascinating glimpse into the Roman Empire and its citizens. Contained in this edition is the last of four volumes, comprising the extant works of Livy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-Dimensional Sonata Form is the first book dedicated to the combination of the movements of a multimovement sonata cycle with an overarching single-movement form that is itself organized as a sonata form. Drawing on a variety of historical and recent approaches to musical form (e.g., Marxian and Schoenbergian Formenlehre, Caplin’s theory of formal functions, and Hepokoski and Darcy’s Sonata Theory), it begins by developing an original theoretical framework for the analysis of this type of form that is so characteristic of the later nineteenth and early twentieth century. It then offers an in-depth examination of nine exemplary works by four Central European composers: the Piano Sonata in B minor and the symphonic poems Tasso and Die Ideale by Franz Liszt, Richard Strauss’s tone poems Don Juan and Ein Heldenleben, the symphonic poem Pelleas und Melisande, the First String Quartet and the First Chamber Symphony by Arnold Schoenberg, and Alexander Zemlinsky’s Second String Quartet.
