Book Circle in the Square Theatre

Download or read book Circle in the Square Theatre written by Sheila Hickey Garvey and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2020-11-24 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on years of research as well as interviews conducted with Circle in the Square's major contributing artists, this book records the entire history of this distinguished theatre from its nightclub origins to its current status as a Tony Award-winning Broadway institution. Over the course of seven decades, Circle in the Square theatre profoundly changed ideas of what American theatre could be. Founded by Theodore Mann and Jose Quintero in an abandoned Off-Broadway nightclub just after WWII, it was a catalyst for the Off-Broadway movement. The building had a unique arena-shaped performance space that became Circle in the Square theatre, New York's first Off-Broadway arena stage and currently Broadway's only arena stage. The theatre was precedent-setting in many other regards, including operating as a non-profit, contracting with trade unions, establishing a school, and serving as a home for blacklisted artists. It sparked a resurgence of interest in playwright Eugene O'Neill's canon, and was famous for landmark revivals and American premieres of his plays. The theatre also fostered the careers of such luminaries as Geraldine Page, Colleen Dewhurst, George C. Scott, Jason Robards, James Earl Jones, Cecily Tyson, Dustin Hoffman, Irene Papas, Alan Arkin, Philip Bosco, Al Pacino, Amy Irving, Pamela Payton-Wright, Vanessa Redgrave, Julie Christie, John Malkovich, Lynn Redgrave, and Annette Bening.

  • Author : Tracey Corbett-Lynch
  • Publisher : Gill & Macmillan Ltd
  • Release : 2018-05-18
  • ISBN : 071718126X
  • Pages : 304 pages

Download or read book My Brother Jason written by Tracey Corbett-Lynch and published by Gill & Macmillan Ltd. This book was released on 2018-05-18 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 2015 Limerick man Jason Corbett was murdered by his wife, Molly Martens, and her father, ex-FBI agent Tom Martens, in the bedroom of their luxury North Carolina home. He had been savagely beaten to death with a baseball bat and brick while his children slept nearby. For his sister, Tracey Corbett-Lynch, and the rest of his family in Ireland it was just the beginning of the nightmare that would involve a custody battle for his orphaned children, an online hate campaign by Molly Martens and, ultimately, the gripping trial that would lead to her conviction, alongside her father, for his murder. My Brother Jason is the story of how this seemingly all-American girl from a picture-perfect family targeted the widowed Jason Corbett, becoming nanny to his children in a desperate bid to create the family and security she craved, thus setting in motion a series of events that would lead to Jason's brutal killing by the woman he had once loved. Here, for the first time, Tracey Corbett-Lynch tells her family's side of the story in a book that contains shocking revelations about Molly Marten's history of strange behaviour and the lengths she was willing to go to in order to get custody of Jason's children. With full access to Jason's letters, emails, keepsakes and photographs, it is the story of how an ordinary, loving family was torn apart by the brutal murder of their beloved brother.

Book The Enlightenment of Jason Albrecht

Download or read book The Enlightenment of Jason Albrecht written by Michael Rawlings and published by Archway Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-06 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Enlightenment of Jason Albrecht is a fictional story that speaks to the intrinsic need for spiritual orientation in the human experience. The central character, Jason Albrecht, spends a lifetime of struggle to reconcile religious codification and conventional thinking with the purity of intrinsic desires and realizations. The story follows the life of a carpenter who is intensely interested in philosophy and religion. During the course of Jasons life, he discovers and then teaches a meditation technique that leads to a unique philosophy in contemplating the wonders of the universe while being sustained by enduring friendships-during and, perhaps, continuing beyond his lifetime. Coming to terms in his final years, Jason Albrecht completes a memoir that tells a story of pain, exhilaration and spiritual realization before finding peace in that final hour that comes for each of us. From the precious idealism of youth to the challenges of adulthood, Jason learns that the material world informs an intrinsic Self and that the experiences of the world and human intuition are necessary companions on an individual journey to maturity in Spirit. The Enlightenment of Jason Albrecht is the inspirational tale of one man's journey to find spiritual identity in a world of circumstance and allegiance.

Book Timelines of Terror

Download or read book Timelines of Terror written by Josh Spiegel and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2023-03-17 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did Friday the 13th begin as a movie about a grieving mother killing camp counselors and spawn a movie in which a nanobot enhanced, hockey masked man destroys a space station? Similarly, how did A Nightmare on Elm Street evolve from a film by Wes Craven about Freddy Krueger into a film about Wes Craven making a Freddy Krueger movie? Film series are destined to change with time, but horror film series are often unrecognizable after multiple sequels and reboots. This work examines horror films and their sequels to determine the glue that holds individual franchises together, which films matter to a series' continuity, which should be considered as canon, and what goes into the process of continuing--or, in some cases, abandoning--the overarching storyline. Series covered include Friday the 13th, Halloween, Child's Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Leprechaun, and Scream.
