It will be of great interest to all the men and women who have used the technique, to those who are now attending bronco branding competitions, to any who have wondered at an old bronco panel or a faded photograph of broncoing in action, and to all who are fascinated by Australian history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The frontiersmen who came to the Victoria River District of Australia’s Northern Territory included cattle and horse thieves, outlaws, capitalists, dreamers, drunks, madmen and others, from the explorers of the 1830s and 1850s to the founders of the big stations in the 1880s and 1890s, and the cattle duffers in the early 1900s. This book looks at them all. Drawing on painstaking research into obscure and rich documentary sources, Aboriginal oral traditions, and first-hand investigations conducted in the region over thirty-five years, Darrell Lewis pieces together the complex interactions between the environment, the powerful and warlike Aboriginal tribes and the settlers and their cattle, which produced what truly became A Wild History.

Book A History of the Sidecar TT Races 1923 2023

Download or read book A History of the Sidecar TT Races 1923 2023 written by Matthew Richardson and published by Pen and Sword Transport. This book was released on 2024-08-30 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrates a century of sidecar racing at the Isle of Man TT, highlighting technical innovation and the dominance of iconic teams like BMW, BSA, Yamaha, and Honda. The Isle of Man TT is arguably the most historic motorsport event on the planet. Its 37 ¾ mile Mountain Course is the world’s oldest racing circuit that is still in use. Three wheeled machines first appeared in 1923, and were an instant hit with the spectators. Early pioneer Fred Dixon set the standard for technical innovation with his banking sidecar, but lack of manufacturer support meant that the class was soon dropped. When sidecar outfits made a comeback at the TT in the 1950s, it was West German BMW machines which dominated the podium places. The Munich factory supported World Championship contenders such as Max Deubel, Georg Auerbacher and Siegfried Schauzu, and it was not until the late 60s that BSA-mounted British riders began a fight-back. Through the 1970s Yamaha two stoke engines were the weapon of choice at the TT, and powered the likes of World Champions George O’Dell and Jock Taylor; that is until Mick Boddice secured the support of Honda UK. Boddice battled it out with the rising young star Dave Molyneux, who would go on to dominate the sidecar TT over three decades as the most successful driver in the history of the event. In recent years the pace at the TT has been set by the electrifying World Championship duo of Ben and Tom Birchall. Sidecar Century celebrates the technical innovation and sheer determination of all of these competitors, over 100 years of classic racing.

Book Connected Thoughts

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stephen R. Herr
  • Publisher : University Press of America
  • Release : 1997
  • ISBN : 9780761805809
  • Pages : 308 pages

Download or read book Connected Thoughts written by Stephen R. Herr and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1997 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Antioch's reorganization in the early 1920s the event has been heralded as a wonder of academic innovation and generally credited to the work of one man, Arthur Morgan. This book examines the politics of educational innovation as represented by that reorganization. Connected Thoughts draws on a large number of sources to redefine Antioch College's reorganization. In doing this the author links the event to the numerous institutions, organizations and individuals who helped define the event, showing that the reorganization was neither a remarkable educational innovation not the work of one man, but rather required the efforts of a number of individuals whose work was in many ways in harmony with both the traditions of the institution and the larger educational community. This is an illuminating study of institutional renewal and reorganization.
