Book The History of Freckleton

Download or read book The History of Freckleton written by Peter Shakeshaft and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: History is everywhere in Freckleton - it can be seen in the very physical and social fabric of this village near Preston, Lancashire. The shape of the fields, the street plan, the houses and buildings are all evidence in one way or another of hundreds of years of human endeavour, character and tragedy. The village is known for many things: its grazing marshes, its boat-yard and the bleak beauty of the Naze; but above all for its very strong sense of community, witnessed by the range and number of church and social organizations flourishing in the area.

Book The Freckleton England Air Disaster

Download or read book The Freckleton England Air Disaster written by James R. Hedtke and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2014-06-24 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Freckleton catastrophe of August 23, 1944, occurred when an American B-24 Liberator crashed into the small village of Freckleton in northwest England. The plane was on a test flight when it encountered a rare and severe summer thunderstorm. Air traffic control at the American air base Warton recalled the bomber back to the base. When the pilot attempted to abort the landing because of poor visibility and high winds, a downdraft caught the plane and it crashed into the adjacent village of Freckleton. As the B-24 tumbled through the village, destroying three houses and a snack bar, flames erupted from wreckage and engulfed Holy Trinity grade school. Before the fire could be brought under control, the holocaust destroyed an entire generation of children in this village of fewer than 1,000 inhabitants. The village would never be the same. In a compelling account of sorrow, loss, hope and finally rebirth, the book looks at the history of the village, the establishment of the base at Warton, the crash, the funeral of the 61 victims, the official British inquest and the American investigation into the cause of the crash. The lives of the survivors, the servicemen and the villagers are followed through 2012.

Book History of Holy Trinity Freckleton

Download or read book History of Holy Trinity Freckleton written by Peter Shakeshaft and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 31 July 1837 the foundation stone of Holy Trinity was laid, finally giving the people of Freckleton their own Anglican church at which to worship. No longer did villagers have to travel to Kirkham or Warton to attend services, as they had for hundreds of years before. However, although there was a definite demand for the church, for the clergy and church officials the early days were marked by difficulties in funding one of the poorest parishes in the Fylde. Many of these obstacles were overcome in succeeding years and Holy Trinity firmly established itself at the heart of the community. The twentieth and twenty-first centuries saw huge changes in social attitudes and patterns of church attendance, which impacted on Holy Trinity as much as many other places of worship. But these changes notwithstanding, a century and three quarters on the church maintains its important role in the life of the village. This book, published to mark the 175th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone, tells the story not only of the building, but also the human one of the clergy and parishioners past and present.

This compilation is also designed to show that Jesus plan of redemption for all mankind includes vicarious ordinance work for the dead to be done in Gods Holy Temples by those living in the Dispensation of the Fullness of Times.
