Book The Historic Exodus Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Historic Exodus Classic Reprint written by Olaf Alfred Toffteen and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Historic Exodus Scarcely two years have passed since I published, in this series, my Ancient Chronology, Part I. In that vol ume I treated biblical chronology solely on the basis of dates furnished by the Bible, taking them at their face value, and without any inquiry either into the age of the documents in which they Occurred, or into their historicity. I promised then that these questions would be taken up in a future volume, to be called side-lights on Biblical Chronology. This is that volume. It has been found advisable to confine it more closely to the Exodus than was originally purposed, and consequently the title has been changed, the more closely to fit the contents. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Exodus: Edited, With an Introduction and Notes I have explained in the previous volume the purpose of this series of the Modern Reader's Bible the History of Israel as presented by themselves. I have also explained the mode by which I propose, without altering the order of the Scriptural paragraphs, to bring this Bible History into the form familiar to us in modern books: separating in type arrangement between narrative and such matter as a modern historian would express by notes and appendices, separating again between the main historic narrative and the incidents told with epic fulness, and dividing the whole into what appear to be its logical sections. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Book of Exodus IN manuscript and proof sheets, we have been travelling over a deeply-instructive and most interesting portion of the word of God the book OF exodus. Redemption by blood occupies a prominent place therein. It characterizes the book. God's many mercies to His redeemed, in the display of His power, the patience of His love, and the riches of His grace, flow from it. The great question of Israel's relationship to God is settled by the blood of the lamb. It changes their condition entirely. Israel within the blood-sprinkled door-posts was God's redeemed, blood-bought people. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The True Story of the Exodus of Israel: Together With a Brief View of the History of Monumental Egypt The antiquity of Egypt, however, is not its Only claim upon the veneration of men: literature, the arts, and the ideas of morality and religion, so far as we know, had their birth in the Nile valley. The alphabet, if it was constructed in Phoenicia, was conceived in Egypt, or developed from Egyp tian characters. Language, doubtless, is as old as man, but the visible symbols of speech were first formulated from the hieroglyphic figures. Book The Exodus From Houndsditch Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Exodus From Houndsditch Classic Reprint written by William Bell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Exodus From Houndsditch It is the historical conception of so-called matter, which civilisation still accepts, that is at the bottom of this war, as of all wars that have ever taken place. Nurtured on the law of supply and demand, and the doctrine of the survival of the fittest, as the recent generations of men have been, the present international upheaval is the only possible effect of such a material cause. Materialism cannot but lead to broken heads. It is the root of the tree of evil of which the series of diplomatic papers that have been published is merely the bud that eventually burst forth into flower as war - a flower of a blood-red colour, watered by the tears of humanity. Even the ecclesiasts were as children in the dark when the game of war suddenly began: and if the light within them be darkness, how great is the dark ness. The pagan Greeks of old were honest enough to close their temples of Peace when the nation went to war, and kept them closed until peace was restored. Not so the modern representatives of what is euphemistically called Christianity. Far from having any religious objections to warfare from the Christian standpoint, the preaching fraternity as usual showed a united front in favour of the international slaughter. Book Exodus a Commentary

    Book Details:
  • Author : Martin Noth
  • Publisher : Westminster John Knox Press
  • Release : 1962
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book Exodus a Commentary written by Martin Noth and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 1962 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exodus is seen in its relation to the preceding Genesis and to the succeeding three books of the Pentateuch. Unlike Genesis, which dealt with individuals, Exodus is primarily concerned with Israel collectively and with the basic elements of Israel's faith. The author shows that the central motifs are the flight from Egypt, especially the crossing of "the sea", and the theophany and covenant at Sinai. The exegesis deals with the narrative as it appears in its final form but, in order to clarify the story, the author makes constant references to the successive stages in its literary development, and throughout the commentary he distinguishes the literary strands -- notably those know as J, E, and P -- that are woven into the fabric of the book.
