Parent educational programs have proved that they improve family relationships and behavior. Also, couples who attend relationship educational programs value these kinds of services. However, there is a lack of culturally specific parenting and family-life education materials targeted to the Hispanic population, which is the largest growing ethnic minority group in the United States. Culture specific family-life education materials make an effort to include the group's cultural-ecological uniqueness because this factor has an impact in ways in which individuals and families think, feel, relate and behave. The aim is to promote healthy couple and parental relationships within the socio-cultural and psychological make up of individuals within this people's group. This quantitative and qualitative study had three research questions that were looked at through the responses given by thirty-one Hispanic pastors and church leaders from the Chicago area to a four-page questionnaire. Along with the questionnaire they were given a copy of the family-life educational manual that was written by the researcher for a Latin American audience. The first question was: How useful among first-generation Hispanics is a family-life education manual written by the writer in Latin America and for Latin America? The second question was: What is the general evaluation of the mentioned manual? The third question was: What is the current status of family-life ministry among the respondents' churches? The manual La familia y sus distintos momentos, translated as "The family and its different moments" was found by most of the participants to be useful and culturally relevant for use among first-generation Hispanics in church-based family programs. At the same time, the respondents recommended that new themes be included, most of which were associated with the family dynamics that Hispanics face in living in the United States which involves the meshing of cultures in various dimensions. Also, the use of more Bible references in each of the chapters was suggested by several of the respondents. Most of the participants indicated that their churches have in place a family ministry and mentioned that they are interested in this area of services. The respondents also indicated that there is a lack of family-life educational resources targeted to Hispanics. This deficit, plus the lack of specialized training and motivation among Hispanic church leaders are factors that limit the development of family ministry and the participation of Hispanic families in the mentioned programs. Finally, this study also challenged the concern that family-life educational material written in Latin America may not be useful among first-generation Hispanic families in the United States.
