Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents the most comprehensive investigation yet made into the healing activity of the Early Church. In contrast to early skeptics like B. B. Warfield, the author is convinced there was a vigorous healing ministry in the centuries that followed the apostles, though it fluctuated somewhat and changed its mode. Exorcism is prominently attested throughout the period. The pre-Nicene Fathers recognized its great apologetic value as a dramatic demonstration of the superiority of Jesus Christ over pagan gods. Interest in healing miracles per se appears to have been particularly characteristic of the less educated members of the Church and those who were chaste in their devotion to the cause of Christ. Amongst these groups gifts of healing were found, becoming rare it seems by the mid-third century, but well attested again later in monastic circles. In the pre-Nicene period anointing with oil (in the name of Christ) was clearly an avenue of healing and, though mentioned comparatively rarely, may have been widespread as part of the regular ministry of local clergy to the sick. Baptismal healing, physical as well as spiritual, also took place. In the post-Nicene Church the shrines of the martyrs became a prominent locus of healing. Devotion to this cult may have been encouraged by Church Fathers as an acceptable alternative to magical practices. But evidence suggests syncretism did occur and martyr's relics could be invested with quasi-magical awe. Most Fathers were positive about the medical profession, seeing it as an avenue of God's work, and in the late fourth century one pioneered the hospital which then spread throughout the eastern Mediterranean. In an appendix to his work, the author sets down nine pointers from the healing activity of the Early Church, and his own experience, to assist those engaged in the healing ministry today.

Through the example of Jesus, who heals from the inside out, readers will learn how to experience this wholeness and assist in the healing of others. Let Jesus Heal Your Hidden Wounds speaks to the individual who wants to be or already is involved in healing ministry. This is not another technique for doing healing, but a description of how the prayer minister cooperates with the Holy Spirit to bring healing and deliverance to people with hidden wounds. Each chapter includes several questions for use in a Bible study setting or to provoke further personal reflection. Those called to healing ministries will be taken to a new level of understanding and greater effectiveness from reading and studying this book. And those with hidden wounds will find new hope for restoration and freedom.

Book This Is Where Your Healing Begins

Download or read book This Is Where Your Healing Begins written by Nigel Mumford and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no college course available that can impart the countless diverse causes and needs for healing human lives. Every soul is unique, and each has many more facets than the sixty found in the famed Hope diamond The myriad of human need for healing and the peculiar personal histories surrounding them are as numerous as all people who ever lived on the planet The felt needs that are shared with me, most every day, involve physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, generational, identity, relational, financial, historical, locational, racial, inter-denominational, intellectual, and other global issues of healing. These needs arise out of, but are not limited to: physical illness, sexual and verbal abuse, traumas, spiritual dysfunction, family dysfunction, abandonment, shame, guilt, rejection, doubt, fear and anxiety. In 1990, when God first led me into His ministry of healing, supplicants would regularly tell me, "I've come here as a last resort." In those early days, the majority, of those who sought prayer, were females over the age of 50. Now, however, the demographics have greatly progressed. Today, men, women and children of all ages; believers and non-believers; even pet owners; come for prayer. While it is more likely for those in need to make a beeline from their doctor's office, to mine; it is becoming increasingly common for people to come for prayer in advance of visiting their physician's office. As supplicants experience God's healing gifts in Christ Jesus, the words of the Psalmist begin to resonate with them: "I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living." (Psalm 27:13) Hence becoming filled with faith in The Healer leads people to a greater certainty of God's loving-kindness and more apt to include Him in every aspect of their healing. It is no surprise that when medical concerns arise, followers of Christ, pray before seeing a doctor. If only more doctors understood that faith-filled people know that God, as their ultimate Healer, creatively heals through doctors, medicines and technology. Spanning nearly thirty years, this book addresses what I have identified as the core issues of everyday life: disease, diagnosis, distress, pain, fear, doubt, shame, guilt and all other manner of human concern. My prayer is that hope, in the Person of the Lord Jesus, will flow through these pages and saturate your souls with what I have learnt--as I listened, loved, and prayed healing over thousands of people. Does healing flow out of 'faith healing' or out of faith in God's ability to heal? Consider how much faith Lazarus exercised to be healed? . . . He was dead Dead for four days The Bible says, "He stinketh." The wisdom God has given me is to never limit Him. God can do far more that we could ever ask or imagine. As we journey through this book, my prayer is that all will find the 'Hope that will not disappoint.'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Healthful Living was originally published by the Medical Missionary Board, Battle Creek, Michigan, under the title Instruction Relating to the Principles of Healthful Living. So popular when it first came out that it became necessary to come out with a second and then a third edition the first year.We have reproduced this 1898 third edition which also contained two additional chapters, God in Nature and The Spirit Filled Life.In the third edition an appendix of parallel Scripture references was included. This Scripture referenced appendix will be found exceedingly helpful in making clear to the mind of the reader the fact that the principles presented in this work are not mere human inventions; but are a part of the divine order appointed for the human family at the beginning, and which is to be restored when all things are made new.Wherever it has been received, this book has been recognized as a veritable storehouse of seed thoughts relating to the great practical themes with which it deals.

Book excerpt: Don't Waste Your Pain None of us escapes the heartache and disappointments of life. To live is to hurt, and we all have the wounds to prove it. Regardless of how we've been hurt, we all face a common question: What should we do with our pain? Should we stoically ignore it? Should we just "get over it"? Should we optimistically hope that everything will work out in the end? If we fail to respond appropriately to the wounds that life and relationships inflict, our pain will be wasted; it will numb us or destroy us. But suffering doesn't have to mangle our hearts and rob us of joy. It can, instead, lead us to life--if we know the path to healing. Healing is not the resolution of our past; it is the use of our past to draw us into deeper relationship with God and his purposes for our lives. If you're ready to shape a future characterized by love, service, and joy, now is the time to step out onto The Healing Path.
