Book excerpt: The quest for happiness is universal. In this comprehensive guide to the history, art, science, psychology and attainment of happiness you will find the answers to those searching questions and discover how to live a fuller, happier life. After all, humans devote their entire lives to striving for happiness by one means or another. And yet, happiness does not just happen. It is a skill as much as a state. It takes effort, practice even. The Happiness Bible works with the reader to explain how happiness works and evolves, where it comes from, and how it can be nurtured and maintained in order to flourish. The book introduces the principles of positive psychology, the science of happiness, and how it works to achieve happiness. It examines what happiness studies have revealed and how positive psychology exercises help to banish the "thieves of happiness". It also explores why acceptance of unhappiness is also important in our quest for joy. Tips on being kinder, getting out in nature, nurturing supportive relationships, talking back to mind chatter, cultivating gratitude, finding and savouring the good, using strengths, creating meaning and developing accurate, flexible, optimistic thinking are also included. • ISBN : 1496403851
  • Pages : 575 pages

Download or read book Happiness written by Randy Alcorn and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2015-09-17 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you ever wonder whether God even cares if we’re happy? This world can be so hard, and we aren’t promised an easy road. But that’s not the whole story. The Bible is filled with verses that prove that ours is a God who not only loves celebrations but also desperately wants his children to experience happiness. Why else would he go to the lengths he did to ensure our eternal happiness in his presence? We know that we will experience unimaginable joy and happiness in heaven, but that doesn’t mean we can’t also experience joy and happiness here on earth. In Happiness, noted theologian Randy Alcorn (bestselling author of Heaven) dispels centuries of misconceptions about happiness, including downright harmful ideas like the prosperity gospel, and provides indisputable proof that God not only wants us to be happy, he commands it. Randy covers questions like: How can I cultivate happiness in my life? What’s the difference between joy and happiness? Can good things become idols that steal our happiness? Is seeking happiness selfish? How can I achieve happiness through gratitude? What does it look like to receive God’s grace? The most definitive study on the subject of happiness to date, this book is a paradigm-shifting wake-up call for the church and Christians everywhere.

Book excerpt: Happiness Bible Study Book includes a small-group experience for six sessions, individual study, applicable Scripture, and a group discussion guide. Christians are supposed to be happy. In fact, we are supposed to radiate joy, peace, and contentment that are so distinctive and attractive that others are naturally drawn to us because they want what we have. And yet, in today's culture, many Christians are perceived as angry, judgmental people who don't seem to derive any joy from life whatsoever. So why aren't we happy? Unfortunately, many Christians are taught early on that God doesn't want us to be happy; instead, He wants us to be holy. In fact, many Christians are laboring under the false notion that God Himself is not happy. But nothing could be further from the truth! In Happiness, noted theologian and author Randy Alcorn dispels centuries of misconceptions about happiness and provides indisputable proof that God not only wants us to be happy but also commands it. This is the most definitive study on the subject of happiness to date and a paradigm-shifting wake-up call for the church and Christians everywhere. Session titles include: 1. Book The Happiness Connection

    Book Details:
  • Author : Christine Schader
  • Publisher : Soultuned Media
  • Release : 2017-09-03
  • ISBN : 9780692927113
  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book The Happiness Connection written by Christine Schader and published by Soultuned Media. This book was released on 2017-09-03 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The potential for happiness is all around us, yet it eludes so many. To share in God's joy, sometimes it's important to slow down and focus on the things in our lives that really matter. With an approach that is at once both spiritual and scientific, author Christine Schader offers poignant suggestions and provides practical exercises on how to focus on what makes you happy. In The Happiness Connection, Christine argues that happiness isn't the sum of all the things in your life-in fact, your circumstances and belongings account for very little of your happiness. Most of your happiness depends on your outlook, however, this is not about being positive all the time. YOU ARE ENOUGH! You are whole, complete and perfect just as you are. Being human means living and experiencing a wide range of emotions and thoughts. By better understanding the science behind happiness, as well as its spiritual component, you'll find yourself much closer to true happiness. Christine analyzes the Bible's commentary on positive psychology, neuroscience, well-being, and the law of attraction. In these matters-as in so many others-the Bible was, as always, insightful and ahead of its time.

Book The Bible and the Pursuit of Happiness

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars of the social sciences have devoted more and more attention of late to the concept of human happiness, mainly from sociological and psychological perspectives. This volume, which includes essays from scholars of the New Testament, the Old Testament, systematic theology, practical theology, and counseling psychology, poses a new and exciting question: what is happiness according to the Bible? Informed by developments in positive psychology, The Bible and the Pursuit of Happiness explores representations of happiness throughout the Bible and demonstrates the ways in which these representations affect both religious and secular understandings of happiness. In addition to the twelve essays, the book contains a framing introduction and epilogue, as well as an appendix of all the terms used in reference to happiness in the Bible. The resulting volume, the first of its kind, is a highly useful and remarkably comprehensive resource for the study of happiness in the Bible and beyond.

Book Does God Want Us to Be Happy

Download or read book Does God Want Us to Be Happy written by Randy Alcorn and published by NavPress. This book was released on 2019-08-06 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if we were wired for happiness? If you were to ask a room full of people about how God wants us to live, you’d likely get a wide range of answers. Some people would say he wants us to be holy. Others might claim he wants us to love people and stand up for peace and justice. But chances are, you wouldn’t hear anyone say, “God wants us to be happy.” We all want to be happy, but we may feel guilty for this longing. Isn’t it selfish to pursue happiness? Isn’t it more spiritual to frown than to smile? In a world full of brokenness, is happiness a worthy pursuit? For those seeking to follow Jesus, should this quest be written off as superficial and unspiritual? In Does God Want Us to Be Happy?, New York Times bestselling author Randy Alcorn offers a collection of short, easy readings on one of life’s biggest questions. As he explores what happiness is and how we attain it, Alcorn provides wisdom, insight, and scriptural proof that God not only wants us to be happy—he commands it! Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if the way the book of Esther has been taught to us in church and retold to us in films, cartoons, and romance novels has missed the original point of the story? Far from being models of piety and devotion, Esther and Mordecai seem indifferent to the faith of their ancestors. How then did this story become part of the Bible and gain the broad acceptance that it has? If the church should not neglect the story, how should it be read? Esther and Her Elusive God calls Christians to avoid the common attempts to make Esther more palatable and theological, and to reclaim this secular story as Scripture. Readers will be encouraged to see in Esther a profound message of God's grace and faithfulness to his wayward people.

Book The Happiness of Enjoying and Making a True and Speedy Use of Christ

Download or read book The Happiness of Enjoying and Making a True and Speedy Use of Christ written by Alexander Grosse and published by Reformation Heritage Books. This book was released on 2015-09-13 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alexander Grosse (1596–1654) was an able Puritan minister of presbyterian persuasion who wrote eight influential books from 1632 to 1656, none of which have been reprinted until now. This book, with its intriguing title about making a speedy use of Christ in every situation, is based on Colossians 2:9–10, “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.” Grosse first sets forth Christ’s fullness as above all created fullness and shows us the emptiness of everything compared to Christ. He contrasts the folly of not cleaving to and contenting ourselves with Christ to the wisdom of valuing Christ above all else. He then expounds how sinners come to Christ and obtain a saving interest in Him. Next, Grosse stresses how to make use of Christ and how to constantly submit to Him. He stresses the joy of those who are partakers of Christ and shows how believers mature spiritually by communion with Him. Their fullness flows out of apprehending the fullness of Christ. Finally, he expounds four marks that evidence the fullness of believers and provides four motives to labor for more mature fullness in personal spiritual life in and through Christ. Two appendices are added to this excellent, experiential Christ-exalting book—the first on the danger of neglecting Christ and the opportunity of grace and the second on the Lord Jesus as the soul’s sure and last refuge.

Book excerpt: In the wise and soulful tradition of teachers like Shauna Niequist and Brene Brown, therapist Aundi Kolber debuts with Try Softer, helping us align our mind, body, and soul to live the life God created for us. In a world that preaches a “try harder” gospel—just keep going, keep hustling, keep pretending we’re all fine—we’re left exhausted, overwhelmed, and so numb to our lives. If we’re honest, we’ve been overfunctioning for so long, we can’t even imagine another way. How else will things get done? How else will we survive? It doesn’t have to be this way. Aundi Kolber believes that we don’t have to white-knuckle our way through life. In her debut book, Try Softer, she’ll show us how God specifically designed our bodies and minds to work together to process our stories and work through obstacles. Through the latest psychology, practical clinical exercises, and her own personal story, Aundi equips and empowers us to connect us to our truest self and truly live. This is the “try softer” life. In Try Softer, you’ll learn how to: Know and set emotional and relational boundaries Make sense of the difficult experiences you’ve had Identify your attachment style—and how that affects your relationships today Move through emotions rather than get stuck by them Grow in self-compassion and talk back to your inner critic Trying softer is sacred work. And while it won’t be perfect or easy, it will be worth it. Because this is what we were made for: a living, breathing, moving, feeling, connected, beautifully incarnational life.

Book Health Wealth and Happiness

Download or read book Health Wealth and Happiness written by David W. Jones and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2017-07-25 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Be faithful in your giving and God will reward you financially. It's not always stated that blatantly but the promises of the Prosperity Gospel--or the name-it-and-claim-it gospel, the health-and-wealth gospel, the word of faith movement, or positive confession theology--are false. Yet its message permeates the preaching of well-known Christian leaders: Joyce Meyer, T. D. Jakes, Joel Osteen, Creflo Dollar, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, and many more. The appeal of this teaching crosses racial, gender, denominational, and international boundaries. Why are otherwise faithful Christians so easily led astray? Because the Prosperity Gospel contains a grain of biblical truth, greatly distorted. For anyone who knows that Prosperity Gospel theology is wrong but has trouble articulating and refuting the finer points, this concise edition contains all the robust arguments of the hard-hitting original edition in a shorter, more accessible form.
