Download or read book PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT BY COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY FOR TUBEROUS SCLEROSIS COMPLEX written by Edenilson Brandl and published by Edenilson Brandl. This book was released on with total page 1473 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the understanding of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) has evolved significantly, encompassing not only the medical and biological dimensions of this genetic disorder but also the psychological implications it carries for those affected. TSC is a rare genetic condition characterized by the growth of benign tumors in various organs, often leading to a complex interplay of physical and emotional challenges. As a multidisciplinary approach becomes increasingly essential in managing such conditions, the integration of psychological support has emerged as a vital component in the overall care of individuals with TSC. This book, "Psychological Support by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex," seeks to bridge the gap between medical treatment and psychological well-being. By employing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as a therapeutic framework, this work aims to empower individuals with TSC, their families, and healthcare professionals by providing practical tools and insights to navigate the emotional landscape associated with this condition. In the following chapters, I will explore a range of topics, including the biological and genetic underpinnings of TSC, the psychological ramifications of living with a chronic condition, and the application of CBT techniques tailored specifically for individuals affected by TSC. Each chapter is designed to not only inform but also offer actionable strategies for managing the emotional burdens often accompanying this disorder. It is my hope that this book serves as a valuable resource for clinicians, therapists, and individuals living with TSC. By enhancing the understanding of the psychological aspects of TSC and providing effective therapeutic tools, we can foster resilience, improve quality of life, and promote a more holistic approach to care. I extend my gratitude to all those who contributed to this project, especially the individuals and families affected by TSC who shared their experiences and insights. Your courage and resilience inspire the work within these pages. Together, let us embark on this journey toward understanding and support.
Download or read book Epilepsy Across the Spectrum written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-07-29 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although epilepsy is one of the nation's most common neurological disorders, public understanding of it is limited. Many people do not know the causes of epilepsy or what they should do if they see someone having a seizure. Epilepsy is a complex spectrum of disorders that affects an estimated 2.2 million Americans in a variety of ways, and is characterized by unpredictable seizures that differ in type, cause, and severity. Yet living with epilepsy is about much more than just seizures; the disorder is often defined in practical terms, such as challenges in school, uncertainties about social situations and employment, limitations on driving, and questions about independent living. The Institute of Medicine was asked to examine the public health dimensions of the epilepsies, focusing on public health surveillance and data collection; population and public health research; health policy, health care, and human services; and education for people with the disorder and their families, health care providers, and the public. In Epilepsy Across the Spectrum, the IOM makes recommendations ranging from the expansion of collaborative epilepsy surveillance efforts, to the coordination of public awareness efforts, to the engagement of people with epilepsy and their families in education, dissemination, and advocacy for improved care and services. Taking action across multiple dimensions will improve the lives of people with epilepsy and their families. The realistic, feasible, and action-oriented recommendations in this report can help enable short- and long-term improvements for people with epilepsy. For all epilepsy organizations and advocates, local, state, and federal agencies, researchers, health care professionals, people with epilepsy, as well as the public, Epilepsy Across the Spectrum is an essential resource.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genetic approaches have revolutionized our understanding of the fundamental causes of human disease by permitting the identification of specific genes in which variation causes or contributes to susceptibility to, or protection from, disease. More than 2,000 disease genes have been identified in the last 20 years, providing important new insight into the pathophysiology of diseases in every field of medicine. Genetic Diseases of the Kidney offers expert insight into the role of genetic abnormalities in the pathogenesis of abnormal kidney function and kidney disease. Genetic abnormalities are carefully presented within the appropriate physiologic context so that readers will understand not only which genes are linked to which diseases but also which pathways lead from a genetic "disturbance to the systemic appearance of disease. - Lays the essential foundation of mammalian genetics principles for medical professionals with little or no background in genetics - Analyzes specific renal diseases – both monogenic disorders confined to the kidney and systemic diseases with renal involvement – and explains their genetic causes - World-renowned editors and authors offer expert frameworks for understanding the links between genes and complex clinical disorders (i.e., lupus, diabetes, HIV, and hypertension)
Download or read book New Antiepileptic Drugs written by Francesco Pisani and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1991 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pharmacological fight against epilepsy began many centuries ago when Hippocrates discovered that the cause of epilepsy is natural, as opposed to supernatural and, as a consequence, must be treated with a natural remedy. Even though science has significantly progressed since that era, the challenge to find remedies for epilepsy is ever present. The aim of this particular volume is to offer an up-to-date review of the most recent advances in antiepileptic drug development, considered from various viewpoints: (i) general, by taking into account the size of refractory epilepsy and its related problems; (ii) experimental, by exploring the mechanisms of epileptogenesis and the possiblility of influencing it through drugs, and (iii) clinical, by describing the results obtained with compounds currently at an advanced stage of testing.
