Book War of the Words

Download or read book War of the Words written by Craig R. Myers and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2006-10-27 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Journalists should avoid cliches, but they are just too useful. "A picture is worth 1,000 words," and in the case of the 38 "Gulf Breeze UFO" photos shot by Ed Walters in 1987-1988, millions of them -- weird, angry, hilarious and profound words. Words by Dave Barry, Mike Royko and Fox Mulder. Words on "Unsolved Mysteries" and "Oprah." With the 20th anniversary approaching I think about another cliche with a twist: "Truth is funnier than fiction." As a reporter in Pensacola, Fla., I found myself in a "War of the Words." TV networks flocked to town, Believers and Debunkers battled over Ghost-Demon photos and Army deserters arrived in search of the Second Coming. With the mayor and police chief on one side, and community leaders and the local paper on the other, I went looking for the last word on the subject. I found a spaceship. REVIEW: Millions of Americans believe that we are regularly visited by beings from outside the Earth, and many are sure they have seen UFOs and even see them regularly. Craig R. Myers has not only seen one, but he has held it in his hand. This was in Florida, in the middle of the famous Gulf Breeze UFO mania of twenty years ago, and the UFO which he had himself captured was of distinctly terrestrial origin, but it had been made by the hoaxer who had sparked the Gulf Breeze sightings. There are plenty of books to tell you where UFOs come from, how we can invite more of them, and what to do when one captures you. War of the Words: The True but Strange Story of the Gulf Breeze UFO (Xlibris) probably wont match sales of many of those other books, but it is shocking and revelatory in its own way. It is impossible to argue, of course, that since this episode was a hoax, all UFO sightings are hoaxes and those who sight them are being fooled, but Myers has given a story with a skeptical bent that indicates the most useful way to regard such phenomena. It is a funny book; it even includes Dave Barrys amusing column about his own visit to Gulf Breeze and his investigation of the mania. It is, however, a serious report by a journalist who covered the story at the time; skeptics ought to enjoy it and True Believers ought to learn from it. Woodward and Bernstein got the story of their lifetimes because they happened to be in the right place and time. Not every journalists story of a lifetime has such national implications, but Myers is grateful that he was around for what he calls the most interesting, frightening and funny story of my at-that-time short career. Maybe this was just in contrast to his usual beat for the Pensacola News Journal, where he reported upon what the county commissioners and the utility authority were up to. A rival paper, The Gulf Breeze Sentinel, published anonymously-submitted photographs of a UFO in November 1987, but they were not the first UFOs seen in the area. Gulf Breeze is directly in the flight path of an airport, and is near a naval air station and an Air Force base, so that there are plenty of lights in the sky. In such a locale, if you are of a mind to be fooled by a mysterious light, says Myers, ... it is quite simple to let yourself think that this is something besides an earthly craft. Indeed, on any clear night, the Gulf Breeze Research Team might be out doing what it called a Skywatch, excitedly whispering to each other Do you see that one? So some Sentinel readers were already primed when the paper published a picture of a classic flying saucer. Myers says there are two ways a paper can report on UFOs. One is to report on the broad phenomenon of UFO sightings, and the other is to report UFO sightings as frequently, and with as little confirmation and editing, as it publishes engagements, weddings, births, Optimist Club donations, honor rolls, obits, and arrests. He does not crow too much that his Journal chose the former while the Sentinel chose the la

Book Interdimensional Universe

Download or read book Interdimensional Universe written by Philip J. Imbrogno and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2013-02-08 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the course of his thirty years of investigation into UFOs, including his own field research, photographic evidence, and meticulously compiled case studies, Philip Imbrogno has provided fascinating new insight into paranormal phenomena. In this book, he reveals for the first time the detailed findings of prominent paranormal experts as well as his own firsthand experiences. Using the latest quantum theories, Imbrogno sheds new light on classic UFO cases, government cover-ups, and the hidden connections between UFOs and other unexplained phenomena-from crop circles and animal mutilations to angels and jinn (or genies). Imbrogno's insider knowledge spans the very early UFO reports to present-day sightings. He personally investigated four of the best-known UFO flaps of the modern era—Hudson Valley, Phoenix lights, the Belgium sightings, and the Gulf Breeze Florida sightings—and shares information never released before, including photographic evidence that something very unusual is taking place on planet Earth.

Book Unidentified Submerged Objects and Underwater Bases

Download or read book Unidentified Submerged Objects and Underwater Bases written by Martin K. Ettington and published by Martin K. Ettington. This book was released on with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books on UFOs and Aliens but most are in the air or over the land. However, you might not be aware that there are also many UFO sightings underwater, or over water. There are even some strong claims of UFO and/or Alien bases underwater. Over 71% of the surface of the Earth is covered in water, much of which is in the Earth’s Oceans. So it makes sense that Aliens visiting Earth would hide in the water or even build bases there. Yes—there are reports from several places of possible Aliens bases beneath the waves. This would make a sensible place to hide if you have advanced technology which will allow you to hide underwater. Some of the suspected underwater bases are near Malibu-California, Gulf Breeze-Florida, and the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. There are probably a lot more submerged base locations we don’t know about all over the world. In this book I’ve provided as many Unidentified Submerged Object stories as I could research. I think you will find these stories to be very interesting.

Book Not of This World

Download or read book Not of This World written by Mark Carlotto and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-04-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of radio astronomy in the 1930s provided a means of searching for evidence of intelligent life beyond earth. After more than six decades, SETI has yet to detect an extraterrestrial signal of intelligent origin. Over this same period, thousands of UFO sightings were reported. Until recently, the lack of government transparency on UFOs has led many to believe in cover-ups and conspiracies to keep their existence from the public. This seemed to change with the official release of three videos by the US Navy in April 2020, confirming earlier unofficial reports of military pilots encountering unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP). In Not of This World, independent researcher Mark Carlotto examines the most compelling UFO cases on record, including the Gulf Breeze sightings, Space Shuttle videos, videos of crop circles and UFOs, Tic Tacs and other UAP, and a UFO over the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. Dr. Carlotto's findings that UFOs and UAPs are likely real, appear to defy the laws of physics as currently understood, apparently exceed known aerospace capabilities, and might not be extraterrestrial in origin, suggest that reality may be completely different from what we think it is.

Book excerpt: A never-before-heard firsthand account of a government insider's experience on the cutting edge of UFO exploration; includes a new afterword "Forget everything you think you know about UFOs - this insider's account exposes the reality... Packed with top grade information, insightful analysis and fascinating anecdotes, Alexander's interesting and controversial book sets the gold standard for titles on this subject." –Nick Pope, author of Open Skies, Closed Minds "Changes the playing field for both true believers and skeptics alike. Alexander strongly warns, be careful what you wish for when asking for presidential intervention. Success could set the field of ufology back decades." --George Noory, host of Coast to Coast AM While still on active duty in the U.S. Army during the 1980s, Colonel John B. Alexander, Ph.D. created an interagency group to explore the controversial topic of UFOs. All members held Top Secret clearance. What they discovered was not at all what was expected. UFOs covers the numerous cases they saw, and answers questions like: • What was really in Hanger 18? • Did a UFO land at Holloman Air Force Base? • What happened at Roswell? • What is Majestic 12? • What is the Aviary? • What does the government know about UFOs? • What has happened with disclosure in other countries? • Has the U.S. reverse engineered a UFO? • Why don't presidents get access to UFO info? UFOs is at once a complete account of Alexander's findings, and a call to action. There are no conspiracy theories here—only hard facts—but they are merely the beginning. Foreword by Jacques F. Vallee Introduction by Burt Rutan Commentary by Tom Clancy

Book Angels and Aliens

Download or read book Angels and Aliens written by Keith Thompson and published by Fawcett. This book was released on 1993 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was Carl Jung who first spoke of the UFO phenomenon as "a modern myth in the making," and Joseph Campbell who insisted that the first function of myths is "opening mind and heart to the utter wonder of all being." Now Keith Thompson makes it possible for us to share that sense of wonder as he explores the UFO against the timeless backdrop of visionary experience: angelic vision, near-death experiences, shamanic journeys, religious miracles, and folkloric encounters with fairies. In a brilliant stroke, Keith Thompson takes a subject usually confined to sensationalistic expose and reveals its surprising literary richness, intellectual energy, and symbolic depths. By offering a new, open-ended perspective which avoids the dogmatism of true believers and debunkers alike, Angels and Aliens invites readers to enter a fascinating world with profound implications for our understanding of the human spirit.
