Book Drainage Area Data for Wisconsin Streams

Download or read book Drainage Area Data for Wisconsin Streams written by E. W. Henrich and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drainage areas were determined for more than 7,000 sites in Wisconsin's 11 major river basins, including all named streams draining 5 or more square miles, and all unnamed streams draining 10 or more square miles. Also determined are drainage areas for gaging stations, sewage-treatment plants, dams, major highway crossings, and other sites where discharge measurements or water-quality data are available. Drainage areas were delineated on U.S. Geological Survey topographic maps. Drainage areas are shown in tabular form under six headings: station number; stream name, rank, and location; township, range, and section; county; type of site; and drainage area. Eleven major-river-basin maps show the location and station number of key sites.

Book The Green Leaf Retrofit

Download or read book The Green Leaf Retrofit written by George Nilsen and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2011-06 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Ziegler left his native Germany and a potential post as a professor of economics at Heidelberg University to escape the rise of Nazism. In America, he finds himself working as a game warden in Ontonagon County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The cold winters and the deep woods of the Upper Peninsula suit John well. He is happy living and working in the forest. Things grow more complex for John when millionaire Jacob Greenleaf offers him a job as Chief of Security for the Green Leaf Wildlife Refuge. John works hard to turn Green Leaf into a model tourist attraction to help the local economy recover from the Great Depression, but soon learns that weapons have been disappearing from several cabins at Green Leaf. John's investigation of the stolen weapons leads him to Angus McVey, the man he replaced as Chief of Security at Green Leaf. McVey's family has a history of desperate poverty and was long oppressed by the Scottish gentry at their original home on the Isle of Skye. After a lifetime of anger and bitterness, McVey vows to take revenge on Jacob Greenleaf, the American equivalent of the gentry that held his family down for so long, and John Ziegler, the man who took his livelihood. McVey takes to the woods with a bow and arrows and stalks John throughout the forests of Green Leaf, bent on eliminating John. In George Nilsen's gripping novel, The Green Leaf Retrofit, John will have to call on all of his experiences and knowledge to rid Green Leaf of McVey so the resort can provide the economic boost the county desperately needs.

Book Maine Metaphor The Green and Blue House

Download or read book Maine Metaphor The Green and Blue House written by S. Dorman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-09-12 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to live in rural Maine? How--in the 1980s, when descendants of Maine's settlers wonder about our coming out of the Rust Belt in search of work, in search of a life? They were not bitter about our coming here, where jobs were already scarce--they were incredulous. Why did we come? Sometimes I answered, "God." God brought us, the formerly middle-class inept, to live among these most hardy and canny of make-do people. God brought us to experience life in Maine, where my spouse sometimes worked turning and trimming four thousand boards a night, waking to drive one hundred miles round-trip to finish our undergraduate educations with the aid of loans and grants. So I studied the place where we came to live. And I forgot where we came from. Rural Maine was ragged, rugged, hardscrabble, and wild--but full of the most visible, vital, natural creation. I've tried to express that aspect of Maine life in The Green and Blue House. And there is the metaphor, also.
