Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you read the Wolf of Wall Street or enjoy the show Billions on Showtime or American Greed on CNBC, this book is for you.The story of the rise and fall of one of the small cap stock market's preeminent consulting firms. Set in the early 2000s, From Pennies to Millions tells the story of how a former Florida theme park worker, a former pool cleaner and a former New York attorney rose to dominance on the coattails of a tracking device, a piece of plastic rebar and a biometric thumb drive in a lesser known industry where the honest businessmen were outnumbered by swindlers, cheats and charlatans, looking to game a system where the rules were often more gray than black and white, to become one of the preeminent consulting firms for small publicly traded companies. With an insider look at the investor relations industry and small cap market fraud, these penny stock mavericks, who never became wolves on Wall Street while arguably the Gordon Gecko's of Pink Sheets, an unregulated quotation service and market for the trading of sub penny and penny stocks, learned that business partnerships built on friendships and family loyalty can be both the key to success and a recipe for failure."We were our own version of wolves of wall street, albeit on a lesser scale, billionaire boys club wannabe's, looking to make f-you money. If Jordan Belfort was the Wolf of Wall Street, then we were Panthers of Pink Sheets, Gordon Gecko's of penny stocks, and our company, Big Apple Consulting USA, the self-proclaimed number one financial consulting firm in the country. It is one thing for others to bestow a moniker, it is another thing to bestow the honor on yourself and make everyone around you believe it.""Good intentions were often masked by wanting, finding, signing and keeping, clients with a stock that was highly liquid and appreciated in value. It was greed with a humanitarian perspective."

Banks and lending institutions today own more than one million foreclosed properties, more are in the foreclosure pipeline. Book Rolling Pennies in the Dark

Download or read book Rolling Pennies in the Dark written by Douglas MacKinnon and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Our intoxicated mother had marched the three of us out into what passed for a living room in the cardboard and tarpaper shack we were existing in on the edge of Nowhere, New Hampshire. She assembled us like an audience on the broken yellow sofa, and said, ‘I’m going to kill myself now, and it’s all your father’s fault.’ “After the dramatic announcement, and once sure we were all looking at the tragedy playing out before us, she took a bottle of sleeping pills out of her purse, and swallowed the entire contents, using vodka as the lubricant.” —excerpt from page 44 Through determination, a deep faith in God, and belief in himself, Douglas MacKinnon has taken the pains of his childhood and turned them into the fuel of compassion. Through his words, you can do the same. A Memoir with a Message It’s impossible for most of us to imagine what it would be like, as a nine-year-old child, to have your own mother empty her .45 pistol into your cardboard bedroom wall, bullets flying above your head, as you hold your baby sister close to protect her. We can’t imagine this, but Doug MacKinnon can. Doug can do more than imagine—he can remember. This very personal memoir is both heartbreaking and highly inspirational. In it, Douglas MacKinnon weaves his astounding story as a desperately poor child and his triumphant transition from living in abject squalor to becoming a White House writer who now has the political influence to change the system—especially as it affects children. But this book is more than the story of one man’s personal journey; it is a memoir with a message. Through this message, the author not only inspires readers to move beyond their own difficulties, he also calls both political parties to task for their shameful neglect of tens of millions of Americans. You’ll be riveted to the story, moved to compassion, and inspired to see the world through new eyes.

Book Investor State Dispute Settlement

Download or read book Investor State Dispute Settlement written by Scott Miller and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-02-02 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) is a provision in Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) and other international investment agreements that allows investors to enter arbitration with states over treaty breaches. ISDS has become controversial in the United States and our negotiating partners; critics, including some governments, have argued that ISDS is unnecessary, while others insist it is illegitimate as public policy. Treaty-based investment protection represents a major advance in the fair treatment of aliens and the peaceful resolution of disputes. Given the alternatives, withdrawing from investment treaties—the logical conclusion of the critics’ position—would likely have negative consequences for economic growth and the rule of law. This report is an empirical review of ISDS, based on the record of disputes under existing investment treaties.
