Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many excellent books have been written on the subject of how to get a job, and it is not my goal to add another to the library shelves. This study seeks to examine employment and unemployment from a Biblical perspective and will hopefully make suitable companion reading for other self-help books. If the Bible isas many people sayGods operating manual for successful living, then surely it will be our source of needed wisdom to cope with every life situation, including joblessness. Contrary to the opinion of some people, the Bible has great relevance in todays world. I have discovered a virtual gold mine of guidance, instruction, and encouragement for those who would turn to Gods Word in times of unemployment. Like gold, however, the nuggets are seldom found on the surface; they must be discovered through some effort. They are found embedded in the principles governing Gods kingdom that are scattered throughout the Bible. These principles will not only teach us how we should live, but also how we can make a living. www.bwaynebradfield.com

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Companionship and strategies for job seekers Millions of people become unemployed every year, yet when job loss happens to us, we typically feel completely alone and often lost, ashamed, and afraid. No one knows how to comfort us when we lose our job. Unlike other griefs--when someone can say, "I'm sorry for your loss"--joblessness leaves family, friends, and acquaintances awkwardly searching for words. Jobs Lost, Faith Found is for those who feel alone due to job loss. It is also for those who offer respect, companionship, guidance, and resources to the unemployed. Mary C. Lindberg, pastor, chaplain, and spiritual director, draws on her family's experience of unemployment and the wisdom of many others, including sages from Scripture and the Christian tradition, to help readers discover a sense of worth and purpose on their way to a new job. She offers prayers, insights, Bible stories, and reflections to light the way during this time of uncertainty and wandering. The path toward hope will be your own, but the ideas, reflections, and strategies in this book will get you started on your journey.

Book The Psychological Impact of Unemployment

Download or read book The Psychological Impact of Unemployment written by Norman T. Feather and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the psychological effects of unemployment. In writing it I had two main aims: (1) to describe theoretical approaches that are relevant to understanding unemployment effects; and (2) to present the re sults of studies from a program of research with which I have been closely involved over recent years. In order to meet these aims I have organized the book into two main parts. I discuss background research and theoretical approaches in the first half of the book, beginning with research concerned with the psychological effects of unemployment during the Great Depression and continuing through to a dis cussion of more recent contributions. I have not attempted to review the liter ature in fine detail. Instead, I refer to some of the landmark studies and to the main theoretical ideas that have been developed. This discussion takes us through theoretical approaches that have emerged from the study of work, employment, and unemployment to a consideration of wider frameworks that can also be applied to further our understanding of unemployment effects.

Book Unemployment Schooling and Training in Developing Countries

Download or read book Unemployment Schooling and Training in Developing Countries written by M. D. Leonor and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1985. Increasing doubt is being shed on the proposition that higher levels of education in developing countries are an unmitigated good. Unemployment among school leavers and university graduates is now a major problem. Some people argue that what is needed is a reform of primary education and the changing of attitudes to work; but many of the measures adopted have failed to achieve these goals and have only worsened the problem by increasing costs, making curricula less flexible and by increasing ‘mis-education’. This book examines the problems and the measures adopted to alleviate them in four important developing countries. It provides many new research findings and much new thinking and concludes with suggestions for improving policies.

Book excerpt: “The Hebrew root word for ‘work’ is also the root word for ‘service’, particularly service to God in worship. By combining the two English words, ‘work’ and ‘worship’, I hope to challenge people to integrate their faith and work. Work does not just refer to what is done in paid employment. I believe God sees work as any purposeful activity requiring focus and effort. It could be housework, schoolwork, caring for children or parents, study, paid work, voluntary work, etc.” — Kara Martin In her book, Kara explores the biblical view of work, provides six spiritual disciplines to integrate faith and work, shares practical wisdom on how to make a difference in the workplace, and offers ideas to help churches better equip their congregations to live out their faith at work.

Book The Unemployed

Download or read book The Unemployed written by Eli Ginzberg and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic study of the effect of unemployment and of the ways of relieving it upon actual, typical families of the 1930s and 1940s is a vivid, startling picture of the demoralizing influence and consequences of America's relief policies during the Depression years. The study comprises an incisive interpretation of the problem and a series of absorbing human interest stories of representative families on relief cases selected from experiences of relief, including the records of families from various religious groups in an exhaustive study conducted in New York City. Most research on unemployment of the 1930s conspicuously lacks studies of the unemployed themselves. Yet, this is the crux of the matter necessary to truly understand the cbnsequences of unemployment then and now, so as to deal with it intelligently and efficiently. This book deals with what employment does to people. It answers important questions about the unemployed that are rarely asked. Who are they? Did they fail to earn a living even in prosperous times? What precipitated their unemployment? Do they prefer relief to work? Did unemployment bring about changes in how they think and feel? This is a volume of continuing relevance, and will be of interest to legislators, economists, social scientists, social workers, and psychologists.
