Download or read book Guerrilla Hunters in Civil War Missouri written by James W. Erwin and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2013-03-26 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The guerrillas who terrorized Missouri during the Civil War were colorful men whose daring and vicious deeds brought them a celebrity never enjoyed by the Federal soldiers who hunted them. Many books have been written about William Quantrill, "Bloody Bill" Anderson, George Todd, Tom Livingston and other noted guerrillas. You have probably not heard of George Wolz, Aaron Caton, John Durnell, Thomas Holston or Ludwick St. John. They served in Union cavalry regiments in Missouri, where neither side showed mercy to defeated foes. They are just five of the anonymous thousands who, in the end, defeated the guerrillas and have been forgotten with the passage of time. This is their story.

Download or read book The Gorilla Hunters written by Robert Michael Ballantyne and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-14 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Gorilla Hunters: A Tale of the Wilds of Africa (1861) is a boys' adventure novel by Scottish author R. M. Ballantyne. A sequel to his hugely successful 1858 novel The Coral Island and set in "darkest Africa", its main characters are the earlier novel's three boys: Ralph, Peterkin and Jack. The book's themes are similar to those of The Coral Island, in which the boys testify to the positive influence of missionary work among the natives. Central in the novel is the hunt for gorillas, an animal until recently unknown to the Western world, which came to play an important role in contemporary debates on evolution and the relation between white Westerners and Africans.

They're accomplished bargain hunters. And their impressive dexterity makes them the perfect ping-pong partners. The perks are pretty much endless. Whether you need a hand organizing an Olympic-caliber bobsled team or fancy a leisurely stroll, a Gorilla is the ideal companion for whatever it is you're game to do. And the guidance they give is the absolute tops. Gorillas know the dish on the hippest eateries around and provide financial advice that's unbelievably sound (as they hold true to a "don't spend what you don't have" policy). Everything Is Better with a Gorilla because, well, it just is.

Download or read book The Gorilla and the Fairy written by Carol Young and published by . This book was released on 2002-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE GORILLA AND THE FAIRY is an allegory, intended as an adult picture book. The author's hope is that this book be an awakening for adolescents as well as for the huge silent mass of women who are in or have recently come out of abusive relationships. In 1998, the author attended a Domestic Violence support group in an upper middle-class suburb of Washington state. In the first four months, three new groups were started in the immediate area. Every meeting the author attended on a weekly basis had at least one or two new members. Many of these women are in denial about their situations. After only months of being with their perpetrator, their view of reality becomes distorted. It is the author's hope that this lushly colored, illustrated story can help some of these women recognize the process of abuse enough to get the help they most desperately need.

The crimes haunted San Francisco Police Captain Charles Dullea, the last honest cop in one of the most notoriously corrupt departments in the country. But nothing could have prepared Dullea for where the case- and the truth-would take him.
Download or read book White Hunters written by Brian Herne and published by Holt Paperbacks. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brian Herne's White Hunters: The Golden Age of African Safaris is the story of seventy years of African adventure, danger, and romance. East Africa affects our imagination like few other places: the sight of a charging rhino goes directly to the heart; the limitless landscape of bony highlands, desert, and mountain is, as Isak Dinesen wrote, of "unequalled nobility." White Hunters re-creates the legendary big-game safaris led by Selous and Bell and the daring ventures of early hunters into unexplored territories, and brings to life such romantic figures as Cape-to-Cairo Grogan, who walked 4,000 miles for the love of a woman, and Dinesen's dashing lover, Denys Finch. Witnesses to the richest wildlife spectacle on the earth, these hunters were the first conservationists. Hard-drinking, infatuated with risk, and careless in love, they inspired Hemingway's stories and movies with Clark Gable and Gregory Peck.
