Download or read book The Good Shepherds Book One The Witnessing written by Caina Fuller and published by Desert Breeze Publishing In. This book was released on 2012-03-15 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murder is as old as mankind. As long as people have died at the hand of their fellow man there have been those with the special ability to see the souls of the murdered. They are called Shepherds, and it is their duty to usher these souls, the Specters, to the afterlife where they can finally find eternal peace. & ;& ;The Good Shepherds tells the story of Maya Ford and Mark Wilson, a young Shepherd pair with a destiny to bring about great change to the old traditions the Shepherds have followed since the time of the first murder. They will challenge their kind to set aside old prejudices, to open their minds and hearts to gain a greater understanding of the Unredeemables, a race of Specters the Shepherds have been at odds with since the dawn of time. It is only through Maya and Mark that both sides can finally find peace.

Book The Good Shepherd

Book excerpt: A statuette of Egyptian King Pepi formidably wielding a shepherd's crook stands in stark contrast to a fresco of an unassuming Orpheus-like youth gently hoisting a sheep around his shoulders. Both images, however, occupy an extensive tradition of shepherding motifs. In the transition from ancient Near Eastern depictions of the keeper of flocks as one holding great power to the more "pastoral" scenes of early Christian art, it might appear that connotations of rulership were divested from the image of the shepherd. The reality, however, presents a much more complex tapestry. The Good Shepherd: Image, Meaning, and Power traces the visual and textual depictions of the Good Shepherd motif from its early iterations as a potent symbol of kingship, through its reimagining in biblical figures, such as the shepherd-king David, and onward to the shepherds of Greco-Roman literature. Jennifer Awes Freeman reveals that the figure of the Good Shepherd never became humble or docile but always carried connotations of empire, divinity, and defensive violence even within varied sociopolitical contexts. The early Christian invocation of the Good Shepherd was not simply anti-imperial but relied on a complex set of associations that included king, priest, pastor, and sacrificial victim--even as it subverted those meanings in the figure of Jesus, both shepherd and sacrificial lamb. The concept of the Good Shepherd continued to prove useful for early medieval rulers, such as Charlemagne, but its imperial references waned in the later Middle Ages as it became more exclusively applied to church leaders. Drawing on a range of sources including literature, theological treatises, and political texts, as well as sculpture, mosaics, and manuscript illuminations, The Good Shepherd offers a significant contribution as the first comprehensive study of the long history of the Good Shepherd motif. It also engages the flexible and multivalent abilities of visual and textual symbols to convey multiple meanings in religious and political contexts.

Book excerpt: Since the turn of the millennium, in particular since September 11, 2001 when America was attacked by terrorists triggering a global-wide spiritual paradigm shift, Christianity as we have known it has experienced a major meltdown. While many are saying Christianity is on the brink of a great revival and even a "new reformation," in reality, we are witnessing the greatest apostasy in modern-day history. This latter-day deception has impacted every evangelical and Protestant denomination to one degree or another, and it is worldwide. The sheep have been led astray by shepherds who have neglected what they have been called to doprotect the sheep. The Good Shepherd Calls brings clarity to what this delusion looks like, why it is happening, where it is headed, and what can still be done to warn believers and unbelievers alike. This book is about following Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd

This book was released on 2020-03-19 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Good Shepherd, Gentle Guide, and Gracious Host is a collection of fifteen discipleship meditations, organized around three metaphors from the Twenty-Third Psalm. Why does the Twenty-Third Psalm connect so profoundly with the human spirit, whether we are grieving, hoping, or suffering? The answer has much to do with the approachable, inviting metaphors for God that are expressed in this psalm—the good shepherd, the gentle guide, and the gracious host, as well as the full range of human emotions that rise up within us when we read them. Each chapter contains a powerful personal story told by one of the Northwest’s best storytellers, an inviting meditation from a line of the psalm, the wisdom of Scripture, some words of practical advice, and questions for reflection and discussion. Suited for personal devotions or small discipleship groups, The Good Shepherd, Gentle Guide, and Gracious Host invites all of us to an adventure of grace, healing, and hope, seeing God as approachable, good, loving, and kind. As our understanding of God’s love and care matures, our spiritual journeys will take on a new character, too. This book will highlight the path ahead, providing fence posts, guide posts, and lamp posts as we make our way home.
