Book The Golden Rule of Aviation Survival

Download or read book The Golden Rule of Aviation Survival written by Curtis J Peters and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2024-04-06 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Golden Rule of Aviation Survival: Don't Die" is a comprehensive manual designed to equip pilots, both seasoned and novices, with the knowledge and skills required to navigate emergency situations that can arise during flight. Authored by Curtis Peters, a respected figure in the field of aviation safety with over two decades of experience, this guide serves as a critical resource for anyone who takes to the skies. Drawing from a rich background as a commercial pilot and a dedicated member of the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), Peters shares invaluable insights into survival preparedness, emphasizing the importance of readiness beyond the cockpit. Through a blend of personal anecdotes, expert advice, and practical strategies, "The Golden Rule of Aviation Survival: Don't Die" covers a wide range of topics crucial to aviation survival, from immediate actions post-crash and first aid fundamentals to managing extreme weather and navigating unfamiliar terrain. What sets this book apart is its dual focus on both mental and physical preparedness. Peters delves into the psychological aspects of survival, underscoring the significance of maintaining a calm and resilient mindset in the face of adversity. This guide not only teaches practical survival skills but also inspires readers to cultivate the mental toughness needed to endure and overcome challenging situations. For aviators who find themselves without access to specialized survival kits like the Crashkit, Peters provides a detailed list of essential items and resources that can be assembled independently, ensuring that readers are well-equipped regardless of their circumstances. Additionally, the book addresses the specific needs of rental pilots, offering guidance on assessing and supplementing the often minimal survival gear found in rental aircraft. Structured to be both a preparatory tool and an emergency reference, "The Golden Rule" encourages readers to familiarize themselves with its contents before embarking on their journeys. In doing so, it aims to transform survival from a matter of chance into a deliberate choice, equipping individuals with the confidence and competence to face whatever challenges may come their way. "The Golden Rule" is more than a manual; it is a call to action for pilots and aviation enthusiasts to prioritize their safety by embracing a lifestyle of preparedness. With its expertly curated content and accessible approach, this book is an indispensable addition to the library of anyone who seeks to navigate the unpredictable nature of aviation with assurance and skill.

Book The Golden Rule and the Games People Play

Download or read book The Golden Rule and the Games People Play written by Rabbi Rami Shapiro and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-10-27 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Does the Golden Rule matter? It depends on the game. "We have to shift the game before we can promote the Rule. This is why teaching morality alone is insufficient. Educating our children in the Golden Rule without teaching about finite and infinite games and zero-sum and nonzero worldviews is a waste of time. Doing so would be like teaching them the rules of chess while insisting they play only checkers." ―from Chapter 10, “Play Different” This provocative and challenging exploration of the Golden Rule, widely accepted as humanity's moral true north, neither praises the Rule uncritically nor naively insists that it is applicable in every situation. Rather, it looks critically at the Rule in the context of game theory to see where it works and where it doesn’t, when it is applicable and when it isn’t. It shows you why knowing the difference can offer you a powerful way to transform your life from one driven by fear to one driven by love. This philosophical game changer is written for people of all faiths or none who praise the Rule and yet violate it over and over again. It invites you into the fascinating world of ethical decision making in a way that helps you use the Golden Rule as a fulcrum for shifting your life from often unethical competition to compassionate and even loving cooperation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Black Sheep Ace is the exciting life story of Sammy Alpheus Pierce, a country boy from rural North Carolina who enlisted in the Army as a private first class and was accepted to pilot training as a young, enlisted man. Upon graduation, he was promoted to the newly created rank of flying sergeant and assigned to fly fighter airplanes. During World War II, over 2,500 enlisted Army men graduated from pilot training and became flying sergeants. Sammy was one of only eighteen who shot down five or more enemy airplanes and achieved the status of ace. His memoirs recount his highs and lows during pilot training and his experiences in the 8th Fighter Squadron, one of three fighter squadrons in the 49th Fighter Group in the Pacific Theater. Sammy was forced to bail out of a P-40 Warhawk behind Japanese lines in October 1943. He was seriously injured and had to evade two thousand Japanese soldiers as well as native cannibals and headhunters to reach an Australian beachhead on the northeast coast of New Guinea. Following surgery in Sydney, Australia, Sammy returned to the United States for rehabilitation. When he returned to flying status, he became an instructor and test pilot in P-51 Mustangs, where he came closer to dying in an airplane incident than at any time in combat. Sammy was recalled to the 49th Fighter Group in October 1944 for a second tour and was again assigned to the 8th Fighter Squadron. He arrived when his squadron was converting to P-38 Lightnings in preparation for General Douglas MacArthur's return to the Philippines. Sammy recounts hell on earth at Tacloban Airfield on Leyte Island, the most difficult and dangerous days of the entire war for the pilots and personnel of the 49th Fighter Group. His memoirs take the reader through the Philippines campaign to Okinawa and, finally, the surrender of Japan.
