For although there are also included in divine revelation things which are not inaccessible to human reason, so revealed to men that they can be understood by all quickly with firm certainty and without any admixture of error, yet not for this reason is revelation to be said to be absolutely necessary, but because God in His infinite goodness designed man for a supernatural end (Conc. Vat., sess. iii., cap.2, de Revel.). This supernatural revelation, according to the belief of the Universal Church, is contained both in unwritten conditions and also in written books, which are called sacred and canonical, because, being written with the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, they have God for their author, and as such they were given to the Church (Ibid). Enlightened souls feel that all they can say of them is nothing, their greatness being above the reach of human thought. The angelic nature contains within itself a world of perfections: but if we add to it the consideration of their grace and glory, it is truly admirable. However perfect human nature may become, it is still, as faith teaches, very inferior to the angelic nature.
