Book My Dog Is As Smelly As Dirty Socks

Download or read book My Dog Is As Smelly As Dirty Socks written by Hanoch Piven and published by Schwartz & Wade. This book was released on 2013-06-26 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you draw your smelly dog? Your playful daddy? Your yummy mommy? See how one girl does it in this simple, clever picture book that's comprised of family portraits made out of objects. For example, her baby brother is so noisy—he's as loud as a whistle, a horn, and even a fire truck!—that she creates a picture of him with whistles for eyes, a horn mouth, and holding a fire truck. After the girl has described everyone in her family (including herself, in great detail), she asks, "What does your special family look like?" encouraging readers to create their own portraits. With a list of objects at the end of the book to use as a guide, this is the ideal choice for budding artists everywhere. Here's a wonderful exploration of simile and metaphor for young readers. And don't miss the companion book My Best Friend is as Sharp as a Pencil!

Book BLUE SCOKS PINK SOCKS

Download or read book BLUE SCOKS PINK SOCKS written by Larry Johnson and published by . This book was released on 2022-02-21 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever sat back and thought about when babies are born if the baby is a boy he gets blue socks, and if the baby is a girl she gets pink socks. Well to be honest I never did, it was until I started to take a real hard look at domestic abuse/violence and wanted to trace this gender divide as for back as I could that the thought of why blue socks and pink socks came up for me. As I thought about it more and more I started to understand that this divide between boys and girls played a real big role in divide between men and women. From birth boys and girls have been looked at in different ways, now I could understand that from a physical stand point they are, but I am not speaking about the physical body. When I say looked at differently I am speaking in terms of a power dynamic that is placed upon both, the boy is to be stronger and more dominate "Blue Socks" while the girl is looked at as weaker and more submissive "Pink Socks". Now if one is suppose to be stronger "Blue Socks "and the other weaker "Pink Socks" it would be no real surprise to a society that the boundary lines between men and women are blurred. It would be so unfair of me to place blame on one parent the other because both are equal in the process of be life system the child has us. She/he grows up "please make a note of she/he no he/she". What I will attempts to do by writing this small book is give it my best shot to bring more of an understanding to what is known as "Man Rules". What are man rules; man rules are thought, understandings, and belief thus shape the core belief system of men, these rules are given to young boys and show them how a man should be. Please understand that I do understand that there are things that young boys should be taught that will help them live a very productive life, but what we will look at in this book are the rules that are destructive and lead to abuse and violence.

Book Stealing Buddha s Dinner

Download or read book Stealing Buddha s Dinner written by Bich Minh Nguyen and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2008-01-29 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the PEN/Jerard Award Chicago Tribune Best Book of the Year Kiriyama Notable Book "[A] perfectly pitched and prodigiously detailed memoir." - Boston Globe As a Vietnamese girl coming of age in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Nguyen is filled with a rapacious hunger for American identity, and in the pre-PC-era Midwest (where the Jennifers and Tiffanys reign supreme), the desire to belong transmutes into a passion for American food. More exotic- seeming than her Buddhist grandmother's traditional specialties, the campy, preservative-filled "delicacies" of mainstream America capture her imagination. In Stealing Buddha's Dinner, the glossy branded allure of Pringles, Kit Kats, and Toll House Cookies becomes an ingenious metaphor for Nguyen's struggle to become a "real" American, a distinction that brings with it the dream of the perfect school lunch, burgers and Jell- O for dinner, and a visit from the Kool-Aid man. Vivid and viscerally powerful, this remarkable memoir about growing up in the 1980s introduces an original new literary voice and an entirely new spin on the classic assimilation story.
