Download or read book The Geology and Geochemistry of the Cross Hills Plutonic Suite Fortune Bay Newfoundland NTS 1M 10 written by John Tuach and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Describes the geology, geochemistry and associated mineralization of the Cross Hills Plutonic Suite. The plutonic rocks give imprecise Rb-Sr ages of about 560 Ma, and intrude late Hadrynian metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Long Harbour Group. Minor occurrences of Zr-Nb-Y-Th-REE occur in aplite veins and fractures in the peralkaline granite.

Book Skarns in British Columbia

Download or read book Skarns in British Columbia written by Gerald E. Ray and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skarns in British Columbia have historically been important sources of iron, tungsten, copper, and gold. This publication begins with an introduction on skarn terminology and the problems of skarn identification. It then reviews a genetic model of skarn formation and presents descriptive profiles of eight types of skarn deposits; describes the database of at least 735 skarn occurrences in the province, and the number and distribution of skarns in British Columbia according to their associations, class, age, and distribution; and notes the ages of British Columbia skarns and the total production of various metals extracted from British Columbia skarns. Subsequent sections provide information on assays and metal ratios of mineralized skarns, skarn mineralogy, skarn mineral chemistry, chemistry of skarn-related intrusions, and the mapping and evaluation of skarns. The appendix contains a listing of 735 skarn occurrences in British Columbia, giving deposit name, MINFILE number, latitude/longitude, elements and minerals present, and associated rocks and their ages.

Book Drift Exploration in the Canadian Cordillera

Download or read book Drift Exploration in the Canadian Cordillera written by Peter T. Bobrowsky and published by Province of British Columbia, Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. This book was released on 1995 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the frequency of near-surface mineral discoveries in the British Columbia Cordillera diminishes, exploration is more frequently focused on regions of high potential but mantled by unconsolidated sediments or drift, dominated by Quaternary deposits. This volume is a compilation of papers on various aspects of drift exploration, using examples from British Columbia. Topics of the papers include Quaternary geology, recognition of paleo-flow direction, drift potential mapping, drilling methods, glacial dispersal determination using indicator clasts, till geochemistry, biogeochemical sampling, lake sedimentology, laboratory techniques, shallow seismic methods, borehole analysis, and resistivity mapping. Case studies elaborating on drift exploration concepts are dispersed throughout the compilation.

Book Mineral Processing at a Crossroads

Download or read book Mineral Processing at a Crossroads written by B.A. Wills and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the increasingly complex mineralogy, and lower grade of many current ore reserves, technology has, over the past decade, had to evolve rapidly to treat these materials economically in an industry which has undergone severe periods of recession. However, most of the technical innovations, such as the increasing use of solvent-extraction, ion-exchange etc., have been in the field of chemical ore processing, and, apart from the use of computers and ever larger unit process machines, there have been few major evolutionary changes in the field of physical mineral processing, where conventional crushing and grinding methods, essentially unchanged in half a century, are followed by the 'old-faithfuls'- flotation, gravity, magnetic and electrostatic methods of separation. Many of these techniques have major limitations in the treatment of 'new' ores such as complex sulphides, and the main purpose of the NATO Advanced study Institute (ASI) "Mineral Processing at a Crossroads" was to review the future of mineral processing. One of the great failings of physical methods is their inability to treat ultra-fine particles, and much research effort is required in this area. Flotation is still the most widely used and researched method for separating minerals, and is the only method which can be used to produce separate concentrates from complex sulphide ores. However, its performance on these 'modern' ores is poor, and it is in this area particularly that chemical methods will increasingly be integrated into plant circuits.

Book Lamprophyres

    Book Details:
  • Author : N. M. S. Rock
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2013-11-11
  • ISBN : 1475709293
  • Pages : 294 pages

Download or read book Lamprophyres written by N. M. S. Rock and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following their recognition by GUmbel (1874), lamprophyres were treated for an entire century as little more than obscure curiosities. Although this situation has changed recently, with a flowering of publications and active workers, lamprophyres remain almost the only group of igneous rocks which have not yet received attention in a dedicated monograph. In five exploratory reviews (1977-1987), the writer aimed to set out what was known about these rocks. The lUGS Subcommission on igneous rock systematics had meanwhile presented its nomenclatural framework (Streckeisen 1979). All this has now been overtaken by a recent explosion of interest, epitomized not least by lamprophyres' greater prominence in the 4th International Kimberlite Conference Proceedings. More data have become available since 1985 than over the entire previous century, and it is obviously impossible for such an extraordinary outpouring to be fully reviewed in this first, preliminary book. At the risk of dissatisfying some readers, therefore, this book concentrates on factual matters, and on a broad overview rather than minutiae. Because not even a world map of known lamprophyres was previously available, almost half the book is deliberately taken up by the first global lamprophyre compilation, and its commensurately extensive Bibliography. Such a compendium of largely objective information is believed to be of more immediate interest and lasting value than a premature pottage of petrogenetic polemic. Chapters 1-7 bring previous studies up to date, and concentrate on factual information.
