Book The Gas Engineer s Laboratory Handbook Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Gas Engineer s Laboratory Handbook Classic Reprint written by John Hornby and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Gas Engineer's Laboratory Handbook The object of this volume, as its title implies, is to describe the various analytical operations which are required in Gas works. In order to make it useful to those who may not have the Opportunity of access to other works on analysis, the general operations incidental to the carrying out of analytical operations are described in detail, and further, as a means of assisting those who are dependent on self study, the methods of analysing certain substances obtainable in a perfectly pure state, and consequently having an established composition, are minutely described; these examples are chosen, as being typical of the more commonly occurring analyses required in Gasworks, as they involve the same methods of manipulation. By comparing the results obtained in the analysis of these simple substances with the figures demanded by theory, the operator can satisfy himself as to his competency to perform the same operations when they occur in the estimations required in his daily work. For example, the analysis of barium chloride serves as a type of the methods of manipulation necessary in the determination of sulphur in coal, coke, and gas, and in ascertaining the accuracy of the solutions employed in the Referees' Ammonia Test, &0. The estimation of calcium serves as a type of the analysis of lime; and so on. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines

Download or read book Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines written by James Moody and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new volume, Design and Construction of Laboratory Gas Pipelines: A Practical Reference for Engineers and Professionals, focuses on design and installation of laboratory gas pipelines. It instructs design engineers, laboratory managers, and installation technicians on how to source the information and specifications they require for the design and installation of laboratory gas systems suitable for their intended use. The current use of specifications predominantly taken from medical gas standards for this type of work is not always suitable; these standards are for use with medical grade gases that have a purity level of 99.5%. The purity levels required in laboratories, however, start at 99.9% for general industrial use through to 99.9995% (Ultra High Purity (UHP)) and higher. Regular medical gas standards are also unsuitable for use with the oxidizing, flammable, and, in some instances, toxic gases that are regularly encountered in laboratories. As need for gas purity increases, the methodology used to design a piping system must vary to meet those parameters, and this reference provides the necessary information and resources. There are no comprehensive single sources of technical references currently available in this market, states the author, and the generally supplied specifications provided to the construction industry are usually generic and not specifically targeted for the gases in use. The results provide extremely poor quality designs and, in some instances, unusable systems. With over 40 years of specialization in the industry from project management to systems design, testing, and commissioning of projects with values in excess of $15 million, the author comprehensively fills that gap with this rich resource. Key features • provides information on types of laboratories that use laboratory gases and the equipment needed • explains the various methods of construction and the materials used to ensure that the purity of the gases remains as supplied from the manufacturers • incorporates the design methodology used to meet the various requirements of the laboratory and the information required to ensure that the correct engineering is provided • presents information on the purity levels of the gases and the data on the equipment used for pipelines and compatibility issues • presents an example of a simple laboratory gas specification that provides guidelines on the information necessary to provide a set of design documents

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Gas Engineer and Superintendents' Hand Book: Consisting of Rules, Reference Tables and Original Matter Pertaining to the Manufacture, Manipulation and Distribution of Illuminating Gas If this book should fail to fill the said void it will be at least an attempt in that direction, which may be fully accomplished in a future edition. There is no good reason why there should not be an American Hand Book for gas engineers and others engaged or interested in the manufacture of gas. Our coinage, weights and measures are different from those of other countries, and we differ greatly in many other things. Even our English relatives, speaking the same language, have a different coinage, and many differences in their weights and measures. Much valuable matter, the fruit of experiments and study by men eminent in the profession, is practically lost, when published in the technical journals, and when wanted, cannot readily be found. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gas Manufacture: The Chemistry of a Practical Handbook on the Production, Purification, and Testing of Illuminated Gas, and the Assay of the Bye-Products of Gas Manufacture; For the Use of Students, Chemists, and Gas Engineers The enormous growth of the Gas Industry during the past twenty years and the many new departures in the manufacture and application of gas have rendered the older works on Gas Manufacture comparatively useless to the modem student; it was, therefore, with pleasure that I undertook, at the request of the publishers, to endeavour to place at his disposal a text-book embodying the more recent advances. The raw materials - e.g., coal, coke, oil, &c. - commonly used in the manufacture are dealt with in Chapter I. Following this arc two chapters dealing solely with the production of coal gas, which still forms the bulk of the illuminating gas of the world. The modern improvements in apparatus and the most advanced methods of purification are dealt with in these chapters. The recent extensive employment of petroleum for gas-making has almost revolutionized some branches of the industry, and Chapters IV., V., and VI. are chiefly concerned with methods of utilizing mineral oils. The immense importance of a knowledge of the components of gas as a guide to its application, and, also, as an aid at different stages of its manufacture, justifies the introduction of a special chapter on Gas Analysis.
