Book The Gas bearing Devonian Manetoe Facies Yukon and Northwest Territories

Download or read book The Gas bearing Devonian Manetoe Facies Yukon and Northwest Territories written by D. W. Morrow and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1990 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Manetoe Facies is an extremely widespread, white, sparry dolomite of diagenetic origin, developed in Devonian strata of northern Canada, north of 60N latitude. In the subsurface southeast of the Mackenzie Mountains, the Manetoe Facies contains 3 large gas fields. Recognition of the diagenetic character of the Manetoe Facies has led to a reappraisal of its origin, important both from the standpoint of petroleum exploration and because of the similarity of the facies to other megacrystalline, white, sparry dolomites, such as those associated with Mississippi Valley type lead-zinc deposits. This paper presents a more complete characterization, documentation and interpretation of the Manetoe Facies and its diagenetic minerals (such as quartz and clacite), and an interpretation of the origin of its hydrocarbons.

Book excerpt: This volume contains 23 state-of-the-art papers presented at the Dolomieu Conference on Carbonate Platforms and Dolomitization held in September 1991 in Ortisei, Italy. The conference was co-sponsored by the International Association of Sedimentologists (IAS) and the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and marked the 200th anniversary of the 1791 paper by Deodat de Dolomieu describing dolomite in detail for the first time. The papers presented do not aim to give a complete review of the current state of the dolomitic art, but rather discuss important advances and gaps in our knowledge of dolomitization. State-of-the-art papers from worldwide experts. Includes basic science and economic applications.

Book Lower Paleozoic Stratigraphy of Northern Yukon Territory and Northwestern District of Mackenzie

Download or read book Lower Paleozoic Stratigraphy of Northern Yukon Territory and Northwestern District of Mackenzie written by D. W. Morrow and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Previous studies of the lower Palaeozoic in the Eagle Plain & Richardson Mountain area of north-west mainland Canada in the Yukon & Northwest Territories have dealt either with outcrop or surface sections, or with subsurface well sections, but did not integrate these data. This has led to the development of inconsistent stratigraphic nomenclatures and an inability to form a consistent sequence stratigraphic model for the lower Palaeozoic in this area. This bulletin presents a stratigraphic synthesis based on data from surface exposures in the mountains surrounding Eagle Plain and on subsurface borehole data from beneath Eagle Plain and from the interior plain bordering the east flank of the Richardson Mountains. An internally consistent stratigraphic framework is developed, including reaffirmation of some previous nomenclature, restriction to certain areas of others, and definition of new stratigraphic units. The positions of carbonate-to-shale transitions which commonly exert a strong control on structural evolution and on the occurrence of sedimentary mineral deposits & hydrocarbons are more accurately delineated. A detailed sedimentological analysis of the Ogilvie Formation, the most prospective lower Palaeozoic unit for the occurrence of hydrocarbon reservoirs, is also included, along with a map of thermal maturity at the top of the unit.

Book Progress in Geomathematics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Graeme Bonham-Carter
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-09-20
  • ISBN : 354069496X
  • Pages : 550 pages

Download or read book Progress in Geomathematics written by Graeme Bonham-Carter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-09-20 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Celebrating Frits Agterberg’s half-century of publication activity in geomathematics, this volume’s 28 timely papers, written by his friends and colleagues, treat a variety of subjects of current interest, many of them also studied by Frits, including: spatial analysis in mineral resource assessment, quantitative stratigraphy, nonlinear multifractal models, compositional data analysis, time series analysis, image analysis, and geostatistics. Professor Agterberg published his first paper as a graduate student in 1958 and has since produced (and continues to publish) a steady stream of research papers on a wide variety of subjects of interest to geomathematical practitioners. Most of the papers included here address methodology and feature practical case studies, so that the book likely has broad appeal to those interested in mathematical geosciences, both to academic researchers seeking a comprehensive overview and also to practitioners of geomathematical approaches in industry.

Book Carbonate Cementation in Sandstones

Download or read book Carbonate Cementation in Sandstones written by Sadoon Morad and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-04-15 with total page 541 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbonate cements are very common and abundant in clastic sequences. They profoundly influence the quality of hydrocarbon reservoirs and supply important information on palaeoenvironments and the chemical composition and flow patterns of fluids in sedimentary basins. Despite this importance, their distribution patterns in time and space and their geochemical evolution are not yet deeply explored and elucidated. This Special Publication contains 21 review papers and case studies on carbonate cementation in clastic sequences written by invited specialists on the subject. These papers present a wide and deep coverage that enhance our knowledge about carbonate cementation in various clastic depositional environments, tectonic settings and burial histories. The book will be of special interest to researchers, petroleum geologists and teachers and students at the postgraduate level. Book Tectonic Evolution of the Oman Mountains

Download or read book Tectonic Evolution of the Oman Mountains written by H.R. Rollinson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-04-07 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oman Mountains contain one of the world’s best- exposed and best-understood fold–thrust belts and the largest, best-exposed and most intensively studied ophiolite complex on Earth. This volume presents new international research from authors currently active in the field focusing on the geology of the Oman Mountains, the foreland region, the carbonate platforms of Northern and Central Oman and the underlying basement complex. In addition there is a particular focus on geoconservation in the region. The volume is divided into three main sections that discuss the tectonics of the Arabian plate using insights from geophysics, petrology, structural geology, geochronology and palaeontology; the petrology and geochemistry of the Oman Ophiolite and the sedimentary and hydrocarbon systems of Oman, drawing on the geophysics, structure and sedimentology of these systems. The volume is enhanced by numerous colour images provided courtesy of Petroleum Development Oman.

Book Sedimentary Cover of the Craton in Canada

Download or read book Sedimentary Cover of the Craton in Canada written by D.F. Stott and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1993 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early chapters of the volume present data and interpretations of the geophysics of the craton and summarise, with sequential maps, the tectonic evolution of the craton.
