Book Stay Competitive in the Digital Age The Future of Banks

Download or read book Stay Competitive in the Digital Age The Future of Banks written by MissEstelle X Liu and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest advancement in financial technology has posed unprecedented challenges for incumbent banks. This paper analyzes the implications of these challenges on bank competitveness, and explores the factors that could support digital advancement in banks. The analysis shows that the traditionally leading role of banks in advancing financial technology has diminished in recent years, and suggests that onoing efforts to catch up to the digital frontier could lead to a more concentrated banking industry, as smaller and less tech-savvy banks struggle to survive. Cross-country evidence has suggested that banks in high-income economies appear to have been the digital leaders, likely benefiting from a sound digital infrastructure, a strong legal and business environment, and healthy competition. Nonetheless, some digital leaders may fall behind in the coming years in adopting newer technologies due to entrenched consumer behavior favoring older technologies, less active fintech and bigtech companies, and weak bank balance sheets.

Book The Future of American Banking

Download or read book The Future of American Banking written by James R. Barth and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-09-16 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The future of American banking is in doubt and the industry and the federal insurance fund that helps support it are in turmoil. The ingredients of the turmoil have been simmering in public view since at least the early 1980s when commercial bank loans to lesser developed countries (LDCs) began to default. The difficulties began to boil at the end of the decade when the prospect first arose that the banks' deposit insurer, the Bank Insurance Fund (BIF) that is administered by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), might require dollars to resolve bank failure as occurred in the savings and loan debacle. This book frames the major economic and policy issues raised by the banking crisis whose resolution largely determines the future of American banking. It focuses on the current reported condition of the banking industry, concentrating on large banks in particular. A longer-run economic prognosis for the banking industry is presented and the implications of future bank failures for the financial services sector and federal regulatory policy are discussed. Most importantly the book contains suggestions for changes in the nation's deposit-insurance system and accompanying banking laws. These changes would reduce the federal government's deposit insurance liability and would provide banks with potentially profitable opportunities. The study includes a wealth of data on the financial condition of American banks and the system as a whole, some of it not easily obtainable from any other source. The authors are internationally recognized as knowledgeable experts on the state of the American banking system and the options and prospects for US banking reform.

Disruptive Fintech briefly traces fractional reserves, the creation of bank currency that traded at a premium to bullion value, central bank regulation, securitization of assets and loans, the current state of digital currency and electronic payments. The author then looks toward the future of fintech and the forces of disruption that will change the landscape of financial life as we know it. Using over 100 interviews with thought leading CEOs, this book develops a methodology to identify financial services that are ripe for innovation and discusses how innovative thinking can be used as a disruptive weapon to attack incumbents and create effective new fintech models. The book discusses How to relate historical innovations and disruptions in financial services to the current landscape How to follow a process to identify the threats facing incumbent processes and businesses, and how innovative thinking can be used as a disruptive weapon to attack incumbents and create effective new fintech models How many fintech innovations will be constructed by re-arranging or re-purposing existing core processes In this insightful book, author James Deitch, CPA CMB, argues that some of today’s high-flying fintech innovators will flourish, but many may perish as the fire of innovation consumes those fintechs that are slow to monetize their promises.

Book Regulating the New Financial Services Industry

Download or read book Regulating the New Financial Services Industry written by Cynthia A. Glassman and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 1988 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new financial services industryóincluding banks, thrifts, securities dealers, and insurance and real estate investment companiesóis big, diverse, complex, and international in scale. The U.S. regulatory agencies that oversee various parts of this system domestically have been trying for some time to come to terms with the effects of more than a decade of rapid change in the world financial sector. Borrowers and lenders, including individuals, corporations and institutions such as pension funds, have been reacting by making adjustments to their behavior as fast, or as prudently, as possible. In this volume, four leading analysts of this rapidly evolving industry offer proposals ranging from the creation of a new kind of consumer service bank to formation of a new kind of national regulatory agency intended to promote competition within what historically has not been a very competitive structure. Chapters include U.S. Financial Institutions in a World Market by Cynthia A. Glassman; Integrating Banking with Other Financial Services by James L. Pierce; After Glass-Steagall: Financial Institution Reregulation by Roberta S. Karmel; and Financial Restructuring and Its Implications for Consumers by John H. LaFalce. Book Banking Lending and Real Estate

Download or read book Banking Lending and Real Estate written by Claudio Scardovi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-23 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals directly with the risk/return multiple trade-offs coming out of the closely intertwined relationship between banking and real estate. The authors explore how banks could embrace a more proactive approach to make the most of their, mostly ‘long only’, exposure to real estate, and create positive spillover effects on their real estate counterparts and the sector as a whole. It provides a "state of the art" representation and analysis of the strategies that best practices in banking are adopting to manage these issues and plan for a new set of interrelations, driving a "virtuous circle" as opposed to the current one. Banking, Lending and Real Estate is built on the academic knowhow and professional expertise of the authors, who have been researching, writing and working on this joint topic for over a decade. With its pragmatic approach, it allows the reader to capture which leading hedge active and holistic approaches are available today and proven to treat, for example, the banks’ overexposure to this asset class; to manage "unlikely to pay" and sub-performing positions; and to optimize the recovery value coming from the work out of real estate related NPL (and underlying assets). Case studies and relevant examples are provided, leveraging on the authors’ experience in consulting projects in the EMEA region and from working with global, regional and domestic banks and the real estate players acting across its value chain. This book will appeal to both academics and business practitioners within the banking, financial services and real estate sectors, as well as professionals from financial and strategic/industrial advisory working in those fields.
