Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are the kittens warned about Grants Wood? The goblins started the trouble. From their viewpoint, anyone entering Grants Wood was fair game. But tell that to Mr. Billy-Bom-Tom-Cat, and later to Chester... It all started with the ice festival. Patty-Cat and Kittle, who lived with their mother, Angel, at 112 Liver Lane, and their friends, Chester and Susie went to the Ice Festival. It was held each year on the meadow next to Grants Wood, where a pond had been frozen over and where ice bat-ball was played. Colorful booths with games of chance and food items were displayed. While the kittens were there they saw Mr.-Billy-Bom-Tom-Cat being escorted to the edge of the meadow, who then slowly entered the woods. When the kittens heard that fairies were also to be found there, but never seen, the four kittens went exploring Grants Wood. Unfortunately Chester was captured by hostile goblins, but the fairies came to the rescue. Two rambunctious and irresponsible sheep dogs, a nasty black widow spider, the talented Cousin Fred, now in music school, other friends and families of the four kittens all come and go and play a part in the lives of all those who live in Katville. Won't you join us and read all about the exciting lives of Patty-Cat and Kittle and their friends.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do bouncing, biting, unemployable sheep dogs, sniping spiders, irritated ants, and getting-under-everyone’s-skin, Cousin Fred (addicted to catnip and trouble), plus Billy-Bom-Tom-Cat all have in common? They’re the ones Patty-Cat and Kittle, two adventurous little kittens, meet and deal with, and sometimes it’s not easy! Patty-Cat and Kittle came to live with Angel at 112 Liver Lane, and life is far from dull. Two sheep dogs, Hal and Sam, come snarling down the street, snapping at each other and when Kittle tries to stop them, they turn on her. She suggests they could be nicer to each other, but alas, peacemakers are never appreciated. Off they go, snarling and biting, hoping to fight Hector the goat. Cousin Fred comes for a visit and disrupts the whole household. Nothing he does turns out right. He spills gingerbread batter all over the kitchen, breaks things, disappears and refuses to do chores. Fred meets a disreputable ruffian called Billy-Bom-Tom-Cat who leads him to a catnip café. Before he is totally beat up, Kittle comes to the rescue and escorts him home. But Fred finds music, banging on the piano, and finally is sent to music school.

This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who hasn't dreamed of a fabulous magic flying carpet taking us on journeys in which our every wish comes true? Kittle certainly thought she had found her own magic carpet when Professor Digger talked about Ancient Egypt and said he would take her there. He claimed he had found a portal and through a series of dials and levers, it would transport anyone to anywhere. Kittle insisted Patty-Cat come with her, but Patty-Cat refused. She had entered a baking contest and wouldn't even discuss using a portal which might not even exist. When Kittle says she is going alone, Patty-Cat tells her mother, Angel, who calls her good friend, Mr. Tom-Cat. He agrees to investigate Professor Digger. At the bake-off, Little Minikin, who is psychic, the adopted kitten of the neighbors next door, whispers to Kittle that if she goes with the professor she won't come home again. Meanwhile, many residents of Katville have been invited to a fabulous dinner and scavenger hunt by Mr. Tom-Cat for his adopted son, Billy-Bom-Tom, who had the night off from the rehearsal of the musical, Hanoj. Who wins the bake-off? What about the hair-raising conclusion to the projected trip to Ancient Egypt--is it safe or not? Can Angel stop the proposed trip? The answers to all these pressing questions are found inside this book so you can read all about the exciting events in Katville for yourself.

This book was released on 2017-06-20 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who could ever imagine that a huge, colorful balloon floating above the town of Katville would bring such menace and terror to the inhabitants? The balloon first appeared one balmy spring day, lazily drifting in the pale blue sky, and rumors had it that there would be rides available. That was exciting news. Cousin Fred, visiting Patty-Cat and Kittle on spring break, and several of their friends, all gathered in Susie's beautiful backyard and talked about coming plans and projects. Billy-Bom-Tom came home to sing in a concert, Al had a solo, Fred was in the orchestra and everyone was looking forward to the concert. Some kittens were first missed at the bat-ball team practice. When it was discovered that they, along with others, were nowhere to be found, the big search began. It was fortunate that a friend, Mrs. Mockingbird, overheard the plot and was able to warn the townspeople and further, to enlist many birds and animals of the forest to also come to their aid. But, part of the news that Mrs. Mockingbird told them concerned the goblins joining the catnappers. Those awful misbehaving folk would be hard to deal with. With Mr. Tom-Cat's organizing ability, Captain Dom-Cat's battle experience, and helpful birds, animals, and fairies, it would be quite a battle.. Won't you join us and hear all about the evil catnappers and the battle in Grants Wood? It's all in the book.

Book The Adventures of Patty Cat Kittle and Friends with the Duchess of Manx

This book was released on 2017-02-25 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No one had ever heard of the Duke and Duchess of Manx until the whole town of Katville was shaken to its rafters by the news: the Duke and Duchess were coming to town and bringing a theatrical company with them! Every aspiring singer, dancer, and even the pathetically untalented actors were hoping to get a part in the show and become stars! Some of Patty-Cat and Kittle's friends who were away at school or working, were arriving back in town, and had parts in the musical. Cousin Fred returned on spring break and was hired to play in the orchestra. Chester, now working part-time on The Daily Howl, was covering these events. Patty-Cat volunteered to help paint scenery, Susie auditioned and was accepted as a dancer, Al was in the chorus, and Billy-Bom-Tom came home full of glory and a major part in the show. Naturally, whatever attracted the rich and swank also attracted the riffraff who no longer worked for a living but chose to make do with what they could lift from those who had more. Among the undesirables were two cat burglars who planned to lift the Duchess's diamonds. Little Minikin tried to warn her adopted family, but no one understood the warning. The show finally opened, and there was a gala reception at the hotel, The Cat's Pause, where mayhem soon broke out. To find out what happens to the good friends and buddies of Katville, read the book!

Book Caught between Worlds

Download or read book Caught between Worlds written by Joe Snader and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2021-10-21 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The captivity narrative has always been a literary genre associated with America. Joe Snader argues, however, that captivity narratives emerged much earlier in Britain, coinciding with European colonial expansion, the development of anthropology, and the rise of liberal political thought. Stories of Europeans held captive in the Middle East, America, Africa, and Southeast Asia appeared in the British press from the late sixteenth through the late eighteenth centuries, and captivity narratives were frequently featured during the early development of the novel. Until the mid-eighteenth century, British examples of the genre outpaced their American cousins in length, frequency of publication, attention to anthropological detail, and subjective complexity. Using both new and canonical texts, Snader shows that foreign captivity was a favorite topic in eighteenth-century Britain. An adaptable and expansive genre, these narratives used set plots and stereotypes originating in Mediterranean power struggles and relocated in a variety of settings, particularly eastern lands. The narratives' rhetorical strategies and cultural assumptions often grew out of centuries of religious strife and coincided with Europe's early modern military ascendancy. Caught Between Worlds presents a broad, rich, and flexible definition of the captivity narrative, placing the American strain in its proper place within the tradition as a whole. Snader, having assembled the first bibliography of British captivity narratives, analyzes both factual texts and a large body of fictional works, revealing the ways they helped define British identity and challenged Britons to rethink the place of their nation in the larger world.

Book Formation of Character

Download or read book Formation of Character written by Charlotte Mason and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formation of Character is the fifth volume of Charlotte Mason's Homeschooling series. The chapters stand alone and are valuable to parents of children of all ages. Part I includes case studies of children (and adults) who cured themselves of bad habits. Part II is a series of reflections on subjects including both schooling and vacations (or "stay-cations" as we now call them). Part III covers various aspects of home schooling, with a special section detailing the things that Charlotte Mason thought were important to teach to girls in particular. Part IV consists of examples of how education affected outcome of character in famous writers of her day. Charlotte Mason was a late nineteenth-century British educator whose ideas were far ahead of her time. She believed that children are born persons worthy of respect, rather than blank slates, and that it was better to feed their growing minds with living literature and vital ideas and knowledge, rather than dry facts and knowledge filtered and pre-digested by the teacher. Her method of education, still used by some private schools and many homeschooling families, is gentle and flexible, especially with younger children, and includes first-hand exposure to great and noble ideas through books in each school subject, conveying wonder and arousing curiosity, and through reflection upon great art, music, and poetry; nature observation as the primary means of early science teaching; use of manipulatives and real-life application to understand mathematical concepts and learning to reason, rather than rote memorization and working endless sums; and an emphasis on character and on cultivating and maintaining good personal habits. Schooling is teacher-directed, not child-led, but school time should be short enough to allow students free time to play and to pursue their own worthy interests such as handicrafts. Traditional Charlotte Mason schooling is firmly based on Christianity, although the method is also used successfully by s
