Book Ancient Iran and Its Neighbours

Download or read book Ancient Iran and Its Neighbours written by Cameron A. Petrie and published by Oxbow Books. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth millennium BC was a critical period of socio-economic and political transformation in the Iranian Plateau and its surrounding zones. This period witnessed the appearance of the world’s earliest urban centres, hierarchical administrative structures, and writing systems. These developments are indicative of significant changes in socio-political structures that have been interpreted as evidence for the rise of early states and the development of inter-regional trade, embedded in longer-term processes that began in the later fifth millennium BC. Iran was an important player in western Asia especially in the medium- to long-range trade in raw materials and finished items throughout this period. The 20 papers presented here illustrate forcefully how the re-evaluation of old excavation results, combined with much new research, has dramatically expanded our knowledge and understanding of local developments on the Iranian Plateau and of long-range interactions during the critical period of the fourth millennium BC.

Book excerpt: Five U.S. Air Force adventurers depart aboard "Anti-Grav One," from a secret desert location. The year is 2013 and their mission includes the testing of Albert Einstein's "Theory of General Relativity." They are primarily concerned with its "Time/Speed Continuum" projections. The astronauts expect to return from their five day, near warp-speed, mission with the passage of only a few weeks of earth-time. When they land on the coast of california they are shocked to find that more than a thousand years have passed on their home planet. What follows is the author's perception of what they will find in the year 3030, the Fourth Millennium. Sorry, no further clues as to what these dramatic changes will be. Naturally, this story touches on the young astronauts personal individual experiences, including developing love affairs--: it is a novel. Far beyong these intrigues, the primary message is one of hope and a positive view of the future for us all. There is, however, a faint hint of foreboding as the story closes. I am thoroughly convinced that this, or something quite similar, is what lies ahead for us all in the FOURTH MILLENNIUM.

Download or read book The Four Keys to the Millennium written by Jay Rogers and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-03-29 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All Christians believe that their great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, will one day return. Although we cannot know the exact time of his return, what exactly did Jesus mean when he spoke of the signs of his coming (Matthew 24)?How are we to interpret the prophecies in Isaiah regarding the time when 'the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea' (Isaiah 11:9)? Should we expect a time of great tribulation or reformation and revivalbefore the Lord returns? How do we approach this inspired prophetic book? In what way do these approaches affect our interpretation of the thousand years of Revelation 20? Is the devil bound now, and are the saints reigning with Christ? These, and many more questions, are dealt with by the four authors in The Four Keys to the Millennium. The editor, Michael Meiring, also makes an analysis of the four essays, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of each view.

Two completely separate worlds sharing the same planet. They both exist in almost complete ignorance of one another, until... A hundred years from now, we'll all be dead. A hundred years ago, we didn't exist. Time is precious; it only lasts while it happens. Beyond the 'here and now', time is gone; forever. This is not because we only live for 'the moment'. Times have changed. Things have changed. Everything has changed. The year is 2999. Today is the last day of the year, New Year's Eve, 31st December. Tomorrow will be not only the start of a new year, not only of a new century, but also of a new millennium. The start of the fourth millennium. That's three behind us already. Doesn't time fly? But what of the three thousand years that have passed? Three thousand years since what? Have there only been three thousand years since the beginning of time? Does anyone know? Does anyone care? No-one will tell us...

Book The Oxford Handbook of Ancient Nubia

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Ancient Nubia written by Geoff Emberling and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 1217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cultures of Nubia built the earliest cities, states, and empires of inner Africa, but they remain relatively poorly known outside their modern descendants and the community of archaeologists, historians, and art historians researching them. The earliest archaeological work in Nubia was motivated by the region's role as neighbor, trade partner, and enemy of ancient Egypt. Increasingly, however, ancient Nile-based Nubian cultures are recognized in their own right as the earliest complex societies in inner Africa. As agro-pastoral cultures, Nubian settlement, economy, political organization, and religious ideologies were often organized differently from those of the urban, bureaucratic, and predominantly agricultural states of Egypt and the ancient Near East. Nubian societies are thus of great interest in comparative study, and are also recognized for their broader impact on the histories of the eastern Mediterranean and the Near East. The Oxford Handbook of Ancient Nubia brings together chapters by an international group of scholars on a wide variety of topics that relate to the history and archaeology of the region. After important introductory chapters on the history of research in Nubia and on its climate and physical environment, the largest part of the volume focuses on the sequence of cultures that lead almost to the present day. Several cross-cutting themes are woven through these chapters, including essays on desert cultures and on Nubians in Egypt. Eleven final chapters synthesize subjects across all historical phases, including gender and the body, economy and trade, landscape archaeology, iron working, and stone quarrying.

Book Spiritual Transformation of the Fourth Millennium

Download or read book Spiritual Transformation of the Fourth Millennium written by Lloyd E. McIlveen and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2014-04-15 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If ever a person wanted to read on opening up a can of worms on a controversial subject, this is one of them. This is one of the king daddies of all the controversial issues. Its about the beginning, the interim, and the now, where conventional religion started, where it has been going and the changing route it is headed into. It may resist its inevitable destiny, or it may conform to the slow-moving new way of individual spirituality. The text is comprehensive, rational, and may be a bit startling to uninformed, naive, and inflexible believers while informative to nonbelievers, but is definitely an eye and ear opener for everyone. Your author recommends reading Evaluating Outdated Beliefs first as a preparation for further understanding the progression submitted in this issue of unfolding spiritual change.

Book Canaan in the Second Millennium B C E

Download or read book Canaan in the Second Millennium B C E written by Nadav Na'aman and published by Eisenbrauns. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the past three decades, Nadav Na'aman has repeatedly proved that he is one of the most careful historians of ancient Canaan and Israel. With broad expertise, he has brought together archaeology, text, and the inscriptional material from all of the ancient Near East to bear on the history of ancient Israel and the land of Canaan during the second and first millenniums B.C.E. Many of his studies have been published as journal articles or notes and yet, together, they constitute one of the most important bodies of literature on the subject in recent years, particularly because of the careful attention to methodology that Na'aman always has brought to his work. Collected here are 23 essays on the Hurrians, the Egyptians and their presence in the Levant during the second millennium B.C.E., Canaanite city-states, the Amarna Letters, and the neighbors of Canaan in the north, such as Alalakh and Damascus. The essays range over such topics as scribes and language, archaeology, cultural influences, and the interrelations of the great powers during this period. The volume includes indexes of ancient personal names, place-names, and biblical references.
