Book The Fourteenth Commandment

Download or read book The Fourteenth Commandment written by Segun Ibi Julius and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2021-08-25 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finding one’s feet in these perilous and confusing times can be a hard-fought battle. Many try to live normal and quiet existences, but with every step made towards finding normalcy, peace, and comfort, very confusing and inexplicable events and activities occur in their lives and homes. Many can’t explain the exact origins of these discomforts or battles nor the reasons behind them. They have sought answers, but answers are never forthcoming. Many people have come to express them as dealing with their inner demons. Conditions can prevail that are unruly, tormenting, addictive, and even suicide inducing. I would like to introduce to you what the Holy Spirit gently introduced to me many years ago through the Holy Bible, and I would like to remove all shadiness to “the elephant in the room” that believers choose to ignore with the hope that it will simply go away. Don’t be afraid to question your doubts and don’t be afraid to question your reality. I hope to answer some questions regarding foul spirits that continue to cause havoc in the lives of people who have faith in God. These unwelcome foul spirits do not need to stay. With our faith in the Lord Jesus, we can regain control and cast them out. God is our deliverance and our salvation.

Download or read book God Behaving Badly written by David T. Lamb and published by InterVarsity Press. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God has a bad reputation. Many think of God as wrathful and angry, smiting people right and left for no apparent reason. The Old Testament in particular seems at times to portray God as capricious and malevolent, wiping out armies and nations, punishing enemies with extreme prejudice.. But wait. The story is more complicated than that. Alongside troubling passages of God's punishment and judgment are pictures of God's love, forgiveness, goodness, and slowness to anger. How do we make sense of the seeming contradiction? Can God be trusted or not?. David Lamb unpacks the complexity of the Old Testament to explore the character of God. He provides historical and cultural background to shed light on problematic passages and bring underlying themes to the fore. Without minimizing the sometimes harsh realities of the biblical record, Lamb assembles an overall portrait that gives coherence to our understanding of God in both the Old and New Testaments. This expanded edition includes an updated preface, afterword, and appendix addressing the story of Noah and the flood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians view the Ten Commandments as laws they are forced to obey in order to stay on God's good side. In her book His Loving Law, Our Lasting Legacy, Jani Ortlund invites readers to look at the Ten Commandments from a different perspective. Ortlund urges believers to recognize the Ten Commandments as a mirror, reflecting our need for God's cleansing and forgiveness. Throughout the book, each commandment is presented not as another rule to follow, but as an invitation to experience more of God's love. As readers grasp this knowledge, they are able to experience true freedom in Christ. They will begin to understand how embracing God's laws and passing them along to future generations offers a needy world a glimpse of the truth of God's love.

Book Prostitutes and Polygamists

Download or read book Prostitutes and Polygamists written by David T. Lamb and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2015-09-01 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jacob and Solomon were polygamists. Tamar and Rahab were prostitutes. What are polygamists and prostitutes doing on the pages of Holy Scripture? And God told the prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute. What about Cain—did he really marry his sister? Abraham did, and he was also a polygamist. Lot offered his daughters up for rape, David committed adultery (or rape?) and the Bible calls both men righteous. Love, Old Testament style, was bizarre. As readers of the Old Testament encounter these weird, confusing, and horrific “love” stories they ask, “What’s up with sex in the Old Testament?” The church often ignores the R-rated bits of the Bible, so it’s hard for people to find answers to their disturbing questions about sex in Scripture, which can lead people to give up on God and God’s word. However, these stories were included in the Bible for a reason, to reveal an even more shocking “love” story. When humans behave badly, God behaves graciously. God not only forgives people with sexual baggage, but also redeems their lives and includes them in his mission. God’s word records their story to benefit us. Just as sex was not often ideal in the Old Testament, it’s often not ideal today. Instead of ignoring these stories, Prostitutes and Polygamists engages, discusses, and learns from them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Congressman Robin Andrews faces stark choices: to save the world or to allow the obliteration of the human race. He discovers a Russian village totally wiped out by a disease of unknown origins. America also faces the destruction of a small town outside of Pittsburgh, the cause also unknown. Can the mindless genocide perpetrated by some unidentified agent be halted before the whole world perishes? Albert Kasdan, a brilliant scientist and twin brother of world-famous chess grand master Anton Pomerov, befriends Robin and shares his knowledge about a plague more deadly than any that had previously ravaged the world. Those with the Mark of Barabbas have a natural immunity to this plague, a divine judgment on the world for its sins. Only the rediscovery of a sacred water supply somewhere in the Holy Land can save the rest of the world. Jan Lipski, a young doctor and concentration camp inmate at Auschwitz, has been forced to work with Hans Hoffmann, an evil Nazi doctor involved in inhuman medical experiments. During the last days of the war Lipski helps a group of twin boys to escape certain death. Lipski also escapes with a sacred copy of The Thirteen Commandments; Hoffmann eludes capture on the last German U-boat. Andrews studies the Bible code and reads The Thirteen Commandments, trying to make sense of the plague that has now reached Pennsylvania. No one can explain what happened. While searching Kasdan's computer, Andrews at last receives what he believes to be a divine message. He travels to the Masada in Israel where he discovers the healing waters.

Its primary focus is on Midrash and midrashic creativity, including the entire range of nonlegal interpretations of the Bible. Considering Midrash as a literary and cultural form, the book explores aspects of classical Midrash from various angles including mythmaking and parables. The relationship between this exoteric mode and more esoteric forms in late antiquity is also examined. This work also focuses on some of the major genres of medieval biblical exegesis: plain sense, allegory, and mystical.
