Book The Four Requisites for Realization and Self Inquiry

Download or read book The Four Requisites for Realization and Self Inquiry written by Nome and published by Society of Abidance in Truth. This book was released on 2021-10-04 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This booklet contains an explanation of aspects of traditional Vedanta practice in the light of nondual Self-Knowledge and Self-inquiry. The four requisites are: discrimination, detachment, the six essentials, and the desire for Liberation. The six essentials are peacefulness, self-control, renunciation or nondependence, endurance or fortitude, faith or conviction, and profound, concentrated, formless meditation. The original significance of them and the actual experience of them for those on the path of Knowledge are far-reaching. These requisites for Realization are to be understood, meditated upon, and practiced within the context of Nonduality for the purpose of Self-Realization. They can also be practiced, at least to a certain extent, by those who have as yet to ascertain that Nonduality is Truth, that Realization consists of Self-Knowledge, and that the means, which is Self-inquiry, must be in accord with or of the same nature as the end, that is, Self-Realization. Here, an understanding of this on the part of the aspirant is assumed and the four requisites for Realization are taught with special relevance to Self-inquiry, the introspective determination of the true nature of one's own Self, which is the Absolute Self.

Book The Practice of self inquiry

Download or read book The Practice of self inquiry written by P.V.S. SURYANARAYANA RAJU and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-02-09 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Self-inquiry does not demand any faith, nor does it depend on any system of thought or belief. It demands integrated awareness and right effort which dissolve self centred illusions, limitations, and thus bring about the revelation of blissful reality. If you really want to help others you must discern your own limitation. We must note that self-inquiry is not a theology.A man protecting himself constantly through such knowledge is obviously not a truth seeker. When you want to find something new, the mind must be quiet. If the mind is crowded, filled with the facts and borrowed knowledge they act as the impediment to the new.The difficulty for most of us is that the mind i. e thought has become so important, so predominantly significant that it interferes constantly with anything that may be new, with anything that may exist simultaneously with the known. Thus borrowed knowledge and learning are impediments for those who would seek, for those who would try to understand that which is beyond thought.

Book The Essence of the Spiritual Instruction

This book was released on 2011-05-29 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Upadesa Sarah (Upadesa Saram) by Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. Translated with Commentary by Nome. Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, abiding in the eternal Silence of the Self, composed The Essence of Spiritual Instruction for the supreme good of all in response to the supplications of the devoted Muruganar. The poet-devotee was writing in Tamil the story of the wayward rishis who dwelled in the Daruka forest and practiced rites for the attainment of powers that they desired. Their egos humbled by Siva and perceiving the error of their approach, they humbly sought spiritual instruction from Siva. Siva graciously bestowed the instruction, and it is these teachings that Muruganar requested Sri Bhagavan, Siva himself, to reveal in verse form. So, the Maharshi composed thirty verses in Tamil. Later, Sri Bhagavan translated them into Sanskrit. The Tamil version is entitled Upadesa Undiyar, and the Sanskrit version is entitled Upadesa Sarah and is also referred to as Upadesa Saram. This work is the English translation of the Sanskrit Upadesa Sarah. With each verse there is a ten-point commentary emphasizing the profound significance of the verse for those practicing Self-inquiry in the quest of nondual Self-Knowledge. An appendix that contains just the Sanskrit text with transliteration is included for ease of recitation and similar purposes.

Book Self Realization Through Self Transcendence

Download or read book Self Realization Through Self Transcendence written by Poven Leace and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-07-31 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of a human life in the material world that Buddha clearly explicated in detail in The Four Noble Truths bears a resemblance to the nature of the “Copernican-Galilean-Newtonian Revolution” that the science claimed as the paradigm shift in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. As soon as we accept this body and live on this earth, we experience the gravitational force exerted by the earth and go through “birth, aging, sickness, death” along with four others (see Chapter Two of The Four Noble Truths) with absolutely no exceptions. Regardless of whether Buddha shared his personal experiences with us or not, regardless of whether Galileo Galilei advocated Heliocentrism or not, and regardless of whether Sir Isaac Newton confirmed the existence of gravitation or not, as long as we exist in this earth—that has always been and will always be rotating around the sun, we have no other choice. Many of us often wonder . . . (1) Is Buddhism a religion? (2) Will Buddha grant us things if we regularly go to Buddhist temples, make generous donations, and then sincerely beg him? (3) Will Buddha welcome us who routinely chant his name to heaven when we die?The answers to these three questions depend on “who we are” and “what we are looking for in life”. However, we will definitely find fully appropriate explanations and perfectly logical answers in The Four Noble Truths. Before taking a journey into our existing self with The Four Noble Truths, let us take a moment to analyze obvious facts . . . (1) Straightforwardly, Sakyamuni Buddha is neither God nor the Supreme Being. He is simply a "complete awakened oneness" whose wisdom transcends "far beyond infinity" and conscience attains "absolute perfect enlightenment". (2) Indeed, Buddha did not create anything, did not invent anything, did not conceive anything, did not establish any law, did not set up any rule, and did not make up any commandment. (3) More conspicuously, Buddha did not insist us to do anything to make him famous, did not demand us to follow any Dharma's he taught, did not expect us to donate any offerings, and did not need us to enthrone him.(4) Most recognizably, Buddha did not grant a miracle to any of us, did not authorize any of us to enter heaven, did not threaten to deny any of us, did not punish any of us, and did not send any of us to hell. (5) Buddha only shared his personal experiences with us. Believe him or not, it is our own choice. Follow his advices and/or teachings or not, it is our own decision. We have full control over our life!Regardless of whether we believe or not, notice or not, realize or not, and agree or not, as soon as we accept this physical body and live on this earth, we suffer.(1) Do we really suffer?(2) What do we suffer?(3) Do we notice that life is a series of seas full of miseries?(4) Why do we suffer?(5) Who makes us suffer almost all the time?(6) Which factors that make life become a series of seas full of miseries?(7) Can we be free from all forms of afflictions in life? (8) Do we realize that we are the only ones who can rescue our very own?(9) Who else can save us and bring us to the heaven of joys and tranquility?(10) Why can no one else liberate us except for ourselves? To appreciate the real nature of a human life in this material world, to realize what the real nature is like, and to recognize "why and how" we—the only ones—can completely emancipate ourselves from miseries, let's spare a few moments of our valuable time to read on Self-Realization through Self-Transcendence (The Four Noble Truths).

Book Self Realization and Justice

Download or read book Self Realization and Justice written by Julia Maskivker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Maskivker argues that there ought to be a right not to participate in the paid economy in a new way; not by appealing to notions of fairness to competing conceptions of the good, but rather to a contentious (but defensible) normative ideal, namely, self-realization. In so doing, she joins a venerable tradition in ethical thought, initiated by Aristotle and developed in the work of important eighteenth and nineteenth century thinkers including Smith, Hume, and Marx. The book engages on-going debates (in both philosophical and real world political and social policy circles) about the provision of basic income grants, necessary to make the possibility of self-realization real for all. Traditional defenses of unconditional welfare benefits emphasize ideals of state neutrality when they claim that society should not discriminate against preferences for leisure in favor of preferences for work. According to these views, the state ought not to interfere with people’s choices about what constitutes the "good life." In contradistinction, Maskivker offers an innovative argument in defense of a particular ideal of the "good life," namely, life-goals directed at the pursuit of self-realization. However, her understanding of self-realization appeals to modern and contemporary values of freedom and pluralism. In a refreshingly new light, the book strikes a balance between fascinating debates on the conditions of human flourishing on the one hand, and heated discussions about the Welfare State on the other.
