This book was released on 2016-07-21 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Christians have read the books of Jeremiah and Lamentations, but few (including myself, until recently) have made these a topic of thorough study. Some contend that the prophetic narrative of Jeremiah and its epilogue, Lamentations, have Jewish historical significance only and no application for the Church today. Others choose to merely skim these texts because their "doom and gloom" format is distressing; they may glean little from these books other than gratitude to God that they did not have Jeremiah's calling. Others might lack the discipline to stick with the topic to the end; after all, Jeremiah is the second longest book in the Bible. In regards to excuses for ignoring these texts, I had many, but now have none. The burden of the Lord is upon me; my meditations are full and my conscience swollen. My deepest conviction is that the Church today should heed the spiritual principles disclosed by Jeremiah, especially his warnings against idolatry and ignoring revealed truth. Warren Henderson

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Life of the Prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah was born in Anathoth, about sixteen hundred and twenty years before the birth of our Savior. Anathoth was one of the thirteen cities that were given to the priests in the time of Joshua. It was situated about three miles north of Jerusalem, within the limits of the tribe of Benjamin. Jeremiah was thus of the sacerdotal or priestly race. His fathers name was Hilkiah. Some have supposed that this was the high-priest who found the book of the law in the temple, in the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah: but this is not probable. Download or read book The Message of Jeremiah written by Derek Kidner and published by IVP Academic. This book was released on 1987-12-09 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prophet Jeremiah and King Josiah were born at the end of the longest, darkest reign in Judah's history. Human sacrifice and practice of the black arts were just two features of the wickedness that filled Jerusalem from one end to the other with innocent blood. As outspoken prophet and reforming king, these two men gave their country its finest opportunity of renewal and its last hope of surviving as the kingdom of David. The book of Jeremiah is full of turmoil and national tragedy, the story of key people like Baruch, Gedaliah and Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, and the drama of rediscovering the forgotten book of Mosaic law. National events interweave with the lives of individuals; the rediscovered book of God's law transforms Josiah, Jeremiah and the future of the world. Derek Kidner, with careful attention to the text, reveals its startling relevance to our own troubled time.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of the Prophet Jeremiah: A Revised Translation With Introductions and Short Explanations The aim of the present volume is to assist an ordinary educated reader to read the Book of Jeremiah intelligently, and to understand the gist and scope Of its different parts. For this purpose I have given a revised translation Of the Book, in the general style of the Authorized Version, as clear and exact as English idiom would permit; the text has been divided into paragraphs, with headings prefixed to each, summarizing the argu ment or narrative which follows; and a minimum of short notes has been added sometimes illustrating from other passages the terms used, more frequently explaining briefly historical or other allusions, difficult passages (so far as this was possible), technical expressions, and other things not likely to be familiar to any but special students. It is from being unacquainted with things such as these, that the writings of the prophets are, it is to be feared, found by many readers to be frequently. In the New Testament more especially questions arise of the deepest theological import, on which the ablest and most conscientious interpreters have differed and always will differ. His aim has been in all such cases to leave each Contributor to the unfettered exercise of his own judgment, only taking care that. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Jeremiah in Modern Speech Of all the fascinating personalities that crowd the pages of the Old Testament, none surpasses Jeremiah in sheer' intensity of human interest. He has been called the prophet of the inner struggle. In him more vividly than in any other do we see the conflict of the human will with the divine - the natural longing of an acutely sensitive spirit to escape from a task so stem and terrible, and the irresistible impulse to undertake it for his God and his country's sake. The word which he would fain have hidden in his heart he felt to be a burning fire shut up in his bones and, it had to leap forth into speech of flame (xx. Book Jeremiah Women s Bible Study Participant Book

Download or read book Jeremiah Women s Bible Study Participant Book written by Melissa Spoelstra and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we look around at today’s world, hope usually isn’t the first word that comes to mind. In many ways we live in an unstable world where marriages fail, bank accounts run low, friendships end, and the everyday demands of a fast-paced life get us down. In the Book of Jeremiah, we find God calling out to His people with a message of hope—a message that intentional living is possible even in an unstable world. But how do we do this? Where do we start? Jeremiah offers women hope for living in an uncertain world by learning to navigate the challenges and circumstances of their lives. This six-week study examines God’s words of instruction to His wayward people through the prophet Jeremiah, and provides women six guidelines for intentional living to overcome fear, worry, and doubt as they surrender their wills to God’s and put their hope in Him alone. Combining rich study of the Book of Jeremiah with practical life application that resonates with the realities and experiences of today’s women, this study inspires all women to dare to hope, remembering that God is rich in mercy and love and has good plans for us. The participant workbook includes five days of lessons for each week, combining study of Scripture with personal reflection, application, and prayer. Other components for the Bible study, available separately, include a Leader Guide, DVD with six 20-25 minute sessions, and boxed Leader Kit (an all-inclusive box containing one copy of each of the Bible study’s components).
