Book Cross Border Investing

Download or read book Cross Border Investing written by Julia Djarova and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-Border Investing: The Case of Central and Eastern Europe offers a view that reflects two main hypotheses: -You cannot understand foreign direct investment (FDI) trends and developments unless you understand the company's motives to invest, -You cannot understand a company's cross-border investment decision-making unless you understand what the investment area offers. This is the reason why this text builds up a relationship between the world of companies' decision-makers and that of the policy makers in the public sector. It does so by linking the business processes to the factors that together constitute the location profile of a country or a region. Based on more than 15 years of practical experience as well as research in the field of FDI, Dr Julia Djarova offers a Cross-Border Investment Model to describe the logic behind the decision-making process concerning foreign investments made by companies. The model is illustrated by a number of case studies of multinationals.

Book Investment Strategies and the Plant Location Decision

Download or read book Investment Strategies and the Plant Location Decision written by Robert W. Haigh and published by Praeger. This book was released on 1989-10-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking contribution to the literature of foreign investment, this volume is based on an extensive field study conducted under the auspices of the Tayloe Murphy International Business Studies Center at the University of Virginia. Through in-depth personal interviews with the executives of 20 companies, the author examines the investment strategies and plant-location decisions of foreign corporations in the United States. In addition to identifying the market, cost, and other strategies that influenced the U.S. plant-investment decisions, the author analyzes managerial aspects of the plant-location decision-making process, describes specific location factors considered important by the executives interviewed, and points out salient recent trends in foreign direct investment in the United States. Divided into five parts, the volume begins by defining the objectives of the study and its research methodology. Part 2 examines management strategies, exploring the factors that influenced the investment decisions of the 20 companies in the study and delineating the operational strategies that guided manufacturing operations subsequent to plant start-ups. In Part 3, the author covers the plant location decision-making process, while Part 4 provides a company profile for each of the 20 foreign affiliates under study. The final section summarizes the research findings and presents the author's conclusions. In addition to comparing the present findings with previous work, the author also addresses the implications of his results for business executives, economic development professionals, and government policy makers.

Book Standing On The Shoulders Of International Business Giants In Memory Of Yair Aharoni

Download or read book Standing On The Shoulders Of International Business Giants In Memory Of Yair Aharoni written by Arie Y Lewin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-03-04 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an introductory volume to Yair Aharoni's remarkable impact on international business (IB) research. Most IB researchers will be familiar with at least one aspect of his work, but relatively few will be familiar with his broader body of work, as it spans so many of the issues addressed today in IB and strategy. This book aims to introduce readers to the depth and breadth of his impact.Unquestionably a founder of the IB field, over the course of his long career, Aharoni influenced its earliest development and, driven by a deep connection to policy and managerial practice, continually challenged conventional thinking on IB and strategy. He generated seminal insights into many aspects of why and how firms internationalize, including managerial decision-making processes, the strategies employed by state-owned enterprises, the interaction between firms and governments, and the foreign expansion of firms — including small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and those operating in the service sector — based in small and open economies. His research contributed to several salient research directions, including the behavioral theory of the firm, emerging-market multinationals, international entrepreneurship, the service economy, and non-market strategies.Aharoni was also an influential educator, having served as the founding dean of two top business schools in Israel. He was deeply engaged with the Israeli business environment — particularly senior executives of start-up companies — and a highly-valued advisor to the Israeli government. In honor of these contributions, Aharoni was the first management scholar in Israel, to be awarded the prestigious Israel Prize in 2010. Few scholars have had such meaningful impact on research, practice, and policy.

Book Global Investment Competitiveness Report 2019 2020

Download or read book Global Investment Competitiveness Report 2019 2020 written by World Bank Group and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-07-06 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Investment Competitiveness Report 2019-2020 provides novel analytical insights, empirical evidence, and actionable recommendations for governments seeking to enhance investor confidence in times of uncertainty. The report's findings and policy recommendations are organized around "3 ICs" - they provide guidance to governments on how to increase investments' contributions to their country's development, enhance investor confidence, and foster their economies' investment competitiveness. The report presents results of a new survey of more than 2,400 business executives representing FDI in 10 large developing countries: Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. The results show that over half of surveyed foreign businesses have already been adversely affected by policy uncertainty, experiencing a decrease in employment, firm productivity, or investment. Foreign investors report that supporting political environments, stable macroeconomic conditions, and conducive regulatory regimes are their top three investment decision factors. Moreover, the report's new global database of regulatory risk shows that predictability and transparency increase investor confidence and FDI flows. The report also assesses the impact of FD! on poverty, inequality, employment, and firm performance using evidence from various countries. It shows that FDI in developing countries yields benefits to their firms and citizens-including more and better-paid jobs-but governments need to be vigilant about possible adverse consequences on income distribution. The report is organized in S chapters: Chapter 1 presents the results of the foreign investor survey. Chapter 2 explores the differential performance and development impact of greenfield FDI, local firms acquired by multinational corporations {i.e. brownfield FDI), and domestically-owned firms using evidence from six countries. Chapter 3 assesses the impact of FDI on poverty, inequality, employment and wages, using case study evidence from Ethiopia, Turkey and Vietnam. Chapter 4 presents a new framework to measure FDI regulatory risk that is linked to specific legal and regulatory measures. Chapter S focuses on factors for increasing the effectiveness of investment promotion agencies.
