Book The Holy Surprise of Right Now

Download or read book The Holy Surprise of Right Now written by Samuel Hazo and published by University of Arkansas Press. This book was released on 1996-01-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For forty years, Samuel Hazo has written a poetry of the world exactly as he sees it: a place where struggles between family members, friends, and nations are endured and sometimes settled by calm assurance; where art and the pursuit of one's talents require a special kind of bravery; where change - the birth of a child, the passing of friends, the death of heroes - is a constant to be solemnly honored and often celebrated." "From his first book, through the National Book Award finalist Once for the Last Bandit, to his newest poems, Hazo's themes have remained consistent. With each collection he wonders anew at the persistence of mortality in the midst of vibrant living and of love in all our relations. In this lithe, metrical lines, he writes with equal ease of Geneva, Switzerland, or Johnstown, Pennsylvania; of the matador Manolete in his dying moments or the innocent eyes of an eleven-year-old son; of the rewards of creating great art or the frustrations and joys of driving a Roosevelt Coupe. With The Holy Surprise of Right Now, Hazo gives his readers a powerful summation of his work to date."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Book George Washington s Surprise Attack

Download or read book George Washington s Surprise Attack written by Phillip Thomas Tucker and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 956 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensively researched and superbly argued in Tucker’s compelling narrative, this in-depth examination of George Washington’s ‘military miracle’ at the Battle of Trenton unquestionably confirms the vital importance of that stunning victory.” —Jerry D. Morelock, PhD, editor in chief at Armchair General Like many historical events, the American Revolution is sometimes overlooked, ignored, or minimized by historians because of common shrouding in romantic myth or interference from stubborn stereotypes. Here historian Phillip Thomas Tucker provides an in-depth look at the events of the Battle of Trenton, weeding out fiction and legend and presenting new insights and analysis. Stories from many forgotten individuals of the war, including officers and soldiers from both sides, bring to life the Continental Army’s desperate circumstances and shocking victory. Myths that Tucker debunks include the Hessians’ slovenly drunkenness, Washington acting alone in creating the attack strategy, and Rall’s incompetence as a leader largely contributing to his troops’ defeat. By exploring the forgotten aspects of one of America’s most famous battles, revealing Trenton’s story proves to be even more fascinating. In the end, America’s founding was nothing short of miraculous, and no chapter of America’s story was more miraculous than Washington’s improbable success at the battle of Trenton, where America’s fate was decided to almost everyone’s amazement on a dark, snowy morning. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. Fresh out of college with his Ship Engineer 3rd-Class certificate, Dave Walker’s only thought is to try to find a berth on a corporate ship plying the trade routes between the many habs, orbitals, and moons in the Solar System. The problem for Dave, however, isn't his straight C average; it's that his stepfather, a powerful Earth Senator he’s never met, now wants him dead. Forced to take the first berth he can find, Dave ends up on the Iowa Hill, an old tramp freighter running with a minimal crew and nearing the end of its useful life, plying the routes that the corporations ignore and visiting the kinds of places that the folks on Earth pretend don’t exist. Between the assassins, the criminals, and the pirates he needs to deal with, Dave is discovering that there are a lot of things out there that he still needs to learn. But there’s one hard lesson he learned long ago that he’s being forced to remember: how to be ruthless. At the publisher's request, this title is sold without DRM (Digital Rights Management).

Book Robert Churchill s Game Shooting

Download or read book Robert Churchill s Game Shooting written by MacDonald Hastings and published by Stackpole Books. This book was released on 2017-09-15 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edition of the standard textbook on its subject has been revised by Robert Churchill’s biographer. Macdonald Hastings, himself well-known in the shooting field (and other fields as well), has incorporated comments on matters which, since Churchill’s Game Shooting as first published in 1955, required further enlargement or modification. He has also brought the entire work completely up-to-date. Macdonald Hastings, who collaborated with the author in the writing of the original edition, was Robert Churchill’s own choice to revise the text and this new edition of Churchill’s drill book, as the great gunmaker and coach himself liked to describe it, may be regarded as contemporarily definitive. None who read the first edition will want to miss this second one, in which every point of controversy and prejudice has been underlined with an editorial note to assist the shooting man in improving his own performance. To those who are still unfamiliar with Churchill’s method of teaching game-shooting, it is important to add that this books is aimed to help not merely the experienced shot who wonders why he is missing, but also the novice handling a gun for the first time. It contains complete and always practical advice on all forms of shot-gun work for everybody. Those who make good use of this manual will not only be welcome guests in any company but quickly pay the cost of the book out of the saving they make on wasted cartridges.
