Book The First International Conference on Remediation of Contaminated Sediments Venice October 10 12 2001 Remediation and beneficial reuse of contaminated sediments S1 3

Download or read book The First International Conference on Remediation of Contaminated Sediments Venice October 10 12 2001 Remediation and beneficial reuse of contaminated sediments S1 3 written by Robert E. Hinchee and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers are concerned with approaches for treating and detoxifying sediments and for isolating and stabilizing contaminated sediments by capping or in disposal facilities. Authors describe their experiences with monitored natural attenuation of sediments and with a wide variety of treatment technologies (e.g., physical, chemical, thermal, electrokinetic, enhanced biodegradation, phytoremediation) to remediate sediments and wetlands. Several papers focus on options for beneficial reuse of sediments and on containment/immobilization approaches. Book jacket.

Download or read book National Symposium on Contaminated Sediments Coupling Risk Reduction with Sustainable Management and Reuse Washington D C May 27 29 1998 written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of the symposium was to promote discussion of the issues raised and recommendations presented in the National Research Council (NRC) report "Contaminated Marine Sediments in Ports and Waterways: Cleanup Strategies and Technologies," released in March 1997. Appendix D of the proceedings provides an Executive Summary of this NRC report. Although there are no simple solutions to the problems created by contaminated marine sediments, the problems can be managed effectively using a systematic, risk-based approach that incorporates incremental improvements in decision making, remediation technologies, and project implementation. Sponsors of the symposium were interested in educating and promoting dialogue among the diverse stakeholders involved in sediment management and in finding potential solutions. The material in the proceedings has been condensed and edited.

Book An Integrated Approach to the Evaluation and Management of Contaminated Sediments

Download or read book An Integrated Approach to the Evaluation and Management of Contaminated Sediments written by Ontario. Ministry of Environment and Energy and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document has been developed to provide guidance on assessing sediment contamination, and where warranted, on devising a management strategy for dealing with the contamination. The document is intended to guide the appropriate stakeholders in the technical aspects of sediment assessment and remediation, thereby facilitating public participation in the process. The first section offers an overview of relevant legislation (federal, Ontario, and municipal) governing remediation projects. Section two concerns data gathering, including levels of assessment, devising a sampling strategy, and types of studies to be conducted. The third section covers data evaluation. Section four addresses issues associated with sediment remediation, including the factors involved in establishing cleanup goals. Section five discusses various remediation options, from natural remediation to removal and treatment. The final two sections discuss implementation and monitoring of the remediation plan.
