Download or read book The first chapter of Genesis has nothing to do with the creation of man written by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Charles Johnston and published by Philaletheians UK. This book was released on 2024-09-13 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis is a purely symbolic and kabbalistic volume. It can neither be understood nor appreciated, if judged by the mistranslations and misinterpretations of its Christian remodellers. The Sevenfold Primordial Evolution of the Puranas appear in the Bible as “Six Days of Creation,” and a seventh “day” of rest! None of these “creations” has ever occurred on this globe, wherever else they may have taken place. Esoterically speaking, Crocodile or Capricornus is Makaram, the Sanskrit name of the tenth sign. The shape of a crocodile or crab is the outcome of the stargazer's fertile imagination, and nothing more. Adam is the symbol of the first terrestrial man, or humanity at large. The man of clay was the first living being to appear on earth, the animal kingdom coming after him. And, as the Egyptian ram-headed god makes man on the potter’s wheel, so in Genesis do the Elohim fashion him out of the same material. The Adept can select any of the countless archetypal forms concealed in Divine Thought (Ideal World) and, by the power of his will, gather into its boundaries the matter required to make it visible to our sensible world — a miracle to the Christian, a fraud for the materialist. It is sound that produces colour, not the other way around. Our earth is densely populated by countless “viewless races,” the elemental evolutionary forces of nature below the mineral kingdom. The elemental cannot understand the thought of a person; it can only be reached when the exact scale of being, to which the elemental belongs, is vibrated by sound, colour, or form. By correlating the vibrations of sound, colour, form, number, and substance, the Adept rules over and commands the elemental forces that underlie the phenomena of nature. The evolution of the spiritual falling into the physical (from mineral, plant, and animal, up to man) takes place only during the First Round. At the middle of the Fourth Round, when the downward evolution turns upward (from physical to spiritual) man appears before anything else on earth. The vegetation that covered the earth in those days of hoary antiquity, belonging to the Third Round, was ethereal (transparent), and so was the first man (humanity), because he was a shadow (image) of his progenitors. The matter composing the objects we see and touch, continually returns to its pre-primordial condition of purity and light, which no mortal eye can see or bear its radiance.
Download or read book The God Who Is There written by D. A. Carson and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2010-07-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It can no longer be assumed that most people--or even most Christians--have a basic understanding of the Bible. Many don't know the difference between the Old and New Testament, and even the more well-known biblical figures are often misunderstood. It is getting harder to talk about Jesus accurately and compellingly because listeners have no proper context with which to understand God's story of redemption. In this basic introduction to faith, D. A. Carson takes seekers, new Christians, and small groups through the big story of Scripture. He helps readers to know what they believe and why they believe it. The companion leader's guide helps evangelistic study groups, small groups, and Sunday school classes make the best use of this book in group settings.

Download or read book Genesis 1 and the Creationism Debate written by Steven DiMattei and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern readers often assume that Genesis 1 depicts the creation of the earth and sky as we know it. Yet in an appeal for textual honesty, Steven DiMattei shows that such beliefs are more representative of modern views about this ancient text than the actual claims and beliefs of its author. Through a culturally contextualized and objective reading of the texts of Genesis 1 and 2, this study not only introduces readers to the textual data that convincingly demonstrate that Genesis' two creation accounts were penned by different authors who held contradictory views and beliefs about the origin of the world and of man and woman, but also establishes on textual grounds that what the author of Genesis 1 portrayed God creating was the world as its author and culture perceived and experienced it--not the objective world, but a subjective world, subject to the culturally conditioned views and beliefs of its author. In the end, this book clearly illustrates that the Bible's ancient texts do in fact represent the beliefs and worldviews of ancient peoples and cultures--not those of God, not those of later readers, and especially not those of modern-day Creationists.

Download or read book What the Bible Actually Teaches on Women written by Kevin Giles and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-10-19 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kevin Giles has been writing on women in the Bible for over forty years. In this book, What the Bible Actually Teaches on Women, he gives the most comprehensive account to date of the competing conclusions to this question and the issues surrounding it. To understand the bitter and divisive debate among evangelicals over the status and ministry of women, it needs to be understood that those who since 1990 have called themselves "complementarians" argue that in creation before the fall God set the man over the woman. Thus, the leadership of the man and the subordination of the woman in the home, the church, and wherever possible in the world (the whole creation) is the God-given ideal that is pleasing to God. It is this "theology" that Kevin Giles deconstructs and shows to be without a biblical foundation. Giles shows that he is fully conversant with the complementarian position and yet is unpersuaded by it. He sees it as an appeal to the Bible to preserve male privilege, similar to the appeals to the Bible to validate slavery and Apartheid; appeals to the Bible made by some of the best Reformed and evangelical biblical scholars, and now seen to be special pleading. Carefully studying the limited number of texts on which complementarians predicate their theology of the sexes, Giles finds not one of them actually teaches what complementarians claim. Furthermore, complementarians too often ignore the texts that are very difficult for them. In this book the ordination of women gets only passing mention. The constant focus is on whether or not the Bible subordinates women to men as an abiding theological principle.

Download or read book Genesis Translation and Commentary written by Robert Alter and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 1997-09-17 with total page 382 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[Here is] the Genesis for our generation and beyond."—Robert Fagles Genesis begins with the making of heaven and earth and all life, and ends with the image of a mummy—Joseph's—in a coffin. In between come many of the primal stories in Western culture: Adam and Eve's expulsion from the garden of Eden, Cain's murder of Abel, Noah and the Flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham's binding of Isaac, the covenant of God and Abraham, Isaac's blessing of Jacob in place of Esau, the saga of Joseph and his brothers. In Robert Alter's brilliant translation, these stories cohere in a powerful narrative of the tortuous relations between fathers and sons, husbands and wives, eldest and younger brothers, God and his chosen people, the people of Israel and their neighbors. Alter's translation honors the meanings and literary strategies of the ancient Hebrew and conveys them in fluent English prose. It recovers a Genesis with the continuity of theme and motif of a wholly conceived and fully realized book. His insightful, fully informed commentary illuminates the book in all its dimensions.

Download or read book The Formation of Genesis 1 11 written by David M. Carr and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2020 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is general agreement in the field of Biblical studies that study of the formation of the Pentateuch is in disarray. David M. Carr turns to the Genesis Primeval History, Genesis 1-11, to offer models for the formation of Pentateuchal texts that may have traction within this fractious context. Building on two centuries of historical study of Genesis 1-11, this book provides new support for the older theory that the bulk of Genesis 1-11 was created out of a combination of two originally separate source strata: a Priestly source and an earlier non-Priestly source that was used to supplement the Priestly framework. Though this overall approach contradicts some recent attempts to replace such source models with theories of post-Priestly scribal expansion, Carr does find evidence of multiple layers of scribal revision in the non-P and P sources, from the expansion of an early independent non-Priestly primeval history with a flood narrative and related materials to a limited set of identifiable layers of Priestly material that culminate in the P-like redaction of the whole. This book synthesizes prior scholarship to show how both the P and non-Priestly strata of Genesis also emerged out of a complex interaction by Judean scribes with non-biblical literary traditions, particularly with Mesopotamian textual traditions about primeval origins. The Formation of Genesis 1-11 makes a significant contribution to scholarship on one of the most important texts in the Hebrew Bible and will influence models for the formation of the Hebrew Bible as a whole.
