This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A treatment of the Fermi-liquid theory of high-frequency phenomena in metals, in paricular the effects due to local features in the geometry of the Fermi surface. The text develops a consistent theory of several effects, such as cyclotron resonances in magnetic fields normal to the surface. Topics covered include: basic equations of the Fermi-liquid theory; cyclotron Doppler on waves; local anomalies in the Fermi surface; cyclotron resonancce in metals; magneto-acoustic oscillations and the local geometry of the Fermi surface.

Book Electronic Structure and Surfaces of Sulfide Minerals

Download or read book Electronic Structure and Surfaces of Sulfide Minerals written by Jianhua Chen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electronic Structure and Surfaces of Sulfide Minerals: Density Functional Theory and Applications examines the mineral structure and electronic properties of minerals and their relationship to mineral floatability by density functional theory (DFT). This pragmatic guide explores the role of minerals in flotation by focusing on the mineral surface structure, electronic properties, and the adsorption of flotation agents through the study of the microscopic mechanism of reagents from the structure and properties of minerals. The flotation mechanism is explained from the point-of-view of solid physics, which is of great significance for both theoretical research and practical applications. The study of the structure and properties of the minerals can reveal the essential nature of mineral flotation, hence why minerals have floatability, the mechanism of response of different minerals to different chemicals, and the origin of the selectivity of flotation agents.

Download or read book Solid State Physics written by James Patterson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-08 with total page 841 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the standard solid state topics are covered, the basic ones often have more detailed derivations than is customary (with an empasis on crystalline solids). Several recent topics are introduced, as are some subjects normally included only in condensed matter physics. Lattice vibrations, electrons, interactions, and spin effects (mostly in magnetism) are discussed the most comprehensively. Many problems are included whose level is from "fill in the steps" to long and challenging, and the text is equipped with references and several comments about experiments with figures and tables.

Book Electrons at the Fermi Surface

Download or read book Electrons at the Fermi Surface written by M. Springford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1980-10-02 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1980, this is a Festschrift to honour Professor David Schoenberg, FRS, on the occasion of his retirement from the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, in 1978. Written by his students, colleagues and friends, it is devoted to the theme of electrons at the Fermi surface. The book is arranged in three parts of which the the first is concerned with certain general and fundamental issues. Part II relates more specifically to electronic structures and to Fermi surfaces, not simply to their important topological features and intriguing shapes, which give much delight, but rather to the information on the related ground state and elementary excitations of the system to which their study gives access. The final part is concerned exclusively with certain aspects of the de Haas-van Alphen effect. The book will interest both experimental and theoretical solid-state physicists concerned with the electronic properties of metals and alloys.

Book Electrons in Disordered Metals and at Metallic Surfaces

Download or read book Electrons in Disordered Metals and at Metallic Surfaces written by P. Phariseau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 575 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present here the transcripts of lectures and talks which were delivered at the NATO ADVANCED STUDY INSTITUTE "Electrons in Disordered Hetals and at ~~etallic Surfaces" held at the State University of Ghent, Belgium between August 28 and September 9, 1978. The aim of these lectures was to highlight some of the current progress in our understanding of the degenerate electron 'liquid' in an external field which is neither uniform nor periodic. This theme brought together such topics as the electronic structure at metallic surfaces and in random metallic alloys, liquid metals and metallic glasses. As is the case in connection with infinite order ed crystals, the central issues to be discussed were the nature of the electronic spectra, the stability of the various phases and the occurrence of such phenomena as magnetism and supercon ductivity. In the theoretical lectures the emphasis was on detailed rea listic calculations based, more or less, on the density functional approach to the problem of the inhomogeneous electron liquid. How ever, where such calculations were not available, as in the case of magnetism in random alloys and that of metallic glasses, sim pler phenomenological models were used. The theoretical discussions were balanced by reviews of the most promising experimental techniques. Here the stress was on results and their relevance to the fundamental theory. lforeover, the attention had centered on those experiments which probe the electronic structure in the greatest detail.

Book Magnetic Oscillations in Metals

Download or read book Magnetic Oscillations in Metals written by D. Shoenberg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-09-03 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is just over 80 years ago that a striking oscillatory field dependence was discovered in the magnetic behaviour of bismuth at low temperatures. This book was first published in 1984 and gives a systematic account of the nature of the oscillations, of the experimental techniques for their study and of their connection with the electronic structure of the metal concerned. Although the main emphasis is on the oscillations themselves and their many peculiarities, rather than on the theory of the electronic structure they reveal, sufficient examples are given in detail to illustrate the kind of information that has been obtained and how this information agrees with theoretical prediction.
