Book The Seven Pillars of Fatherhood

Download or read book The Seven Pillars of Fatherhood written by Donald H. Wood Ph.D and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-05 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written about the role of a good father and the importance of a father in his children’s lives. However, in my opinion, little if any has been written about what are the fundamental attributes that make up a good or, what I like to call, a real father. I think that these fundamental attributes can be summed up with seven key traits or pillars as I like to refer to them. These fundamental truths or attributes known as the seven pillars (Ps) of fatherhood encompass the following key attributes: P1: Pilot. A real father is a man who knows how to lead (navigate) his children and family through the storms of life. P2: Provider. A real father is able to provide for his children with adequate shelter, food, and clothing. P3: Protector. A real father knows how to protect his children from the predators of life. P4: Preparer. A real father knows how to prepare and teach his children how to be self-sufficient and independent. P5: Praise. A real father knows how to instill self-esteem in his children through encouragement, support, and affirmation. P6: Patience. A real father is meek and slow to anger. He knows the difference between alienating his children and how to firmly direct his children in the right direction. P7: Prays. A real father knows how to be a prayer warrior on behalf of his children. By embracing and utilizing the seven pillars of fatherhood, all fathers or father figures will reap the benefits of successfully raising children who will be ready to take on the challenges of life. The way in which a man fathers his children can mean the difference between him finding great joy from his children in the future or great sorrow.

Book The Dadvantage

  • Author : Jon Finkel
  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2012-11-28
  • ISBN : 9781530015177
  • Pages : 116 pages

Download or read book The Dadvantage written by Jon Finkel and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012-11-28 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In THE DADVANTAGE, Jon Finkel applies the same humor and logic he made popular in his national magazine columns to prove to men that being in shape and fatherhood aren't mutually exclusive. Relying on his first-hand experience as a dad and his time as a writer for the world's largest fitness publications, Finkel's book is as much a real-world guide for men to follow about how to make wise health decisions post-baby as it is a playbook for men to maximize their minutes during the craziest time of their lives. The book is divided into four fast chapters: Chapter I: Stop the Dad Bod Before It Starts Chapter II: Exercise While Exhausted Chapter III: Yeah Baby - The Unconventional Fitness Guide Chapter IV: The Simplest New Dad Diet That Guarantees Weight Loss Chapters I and II of the book reveal why the mainstream expectations put on new fathers to set their health aside for the good of their wife and child is ridiculous, why men shouldn't feel guilty about taking care of themselves and how every guy absolutely has the time in his existing schedule to perform some practical, easy exercises throughout the day to stay in shape. Chapters III and IV take a unique look at how new dads can use the simple things around them to fit in short, one or two minute workouts. Exercises like "Car Seat Curls," "Baby Bjorn Lunges" and "Mailbox Intervals" transform everyday dad activities into calorie burners and muscle builders. The final chapter shows men how simple, subtle meal changes can have lasting and impressive effects on their diet and physique with minimal effort. The fact is, most men will probably gain weight during their wife's pregnancy. We don't want to, but we will. I did. Unfortunately, guys don't have access to the one-day miracle weight loss plan that women utilize called giving birth. One minute, a woman is bursting at the seams with child, the next minute; she's 15 pounds lighter. Three months later, she's 30 pounds lighter. For men, what was once affectionately called "sympathy weight" is now referred to as "being fat." Once a guy is fat for a certain amount of time, he has officially "let himself go." And once he's "let himself go," it's not easy to get himself back.

Book Collision of Wills

Download or read book Collision of Wills written by Jack Gilden and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In their seven years together, quarterback Johnny Unitas and coach Don Shula, kings of the fabled Baltimore Colts of the 1960s, created one of the most successful franchises in sports. Unitas and Shula had a higher winning percentage than Lombardi’s Packers, but together they never won the championship. Baltimore lost the big game to the Browns in 1964 and to Joe Namath and the Jets in Super Bowl III—both in stunning upsets. The Colts’ near misses in the Shula era were among the most confounding losses any sports franchise ever suffered. Rarely had a team in any league performed so well, over such an extended period, only to come up empty. The two men had a complex relationship stretching back to their time as young teammates competing for their professional lives. Their personal conflict mirrored their tumultuous times. As they elevated the brutal game of football, the world around them clashed about Vietnam, civil rights, and sex. Collision of Wills looks at the complicated relationship between Don Shula, the league’s winningest coach of all time, and his star player Johnny Unitas, and how their secret animosity fueled the Colts in an era when their losses were as memorable as their victories. Book James and John Stuart Mill

Download or read book James and John Stuart Mill written by Bruce Mazlish and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of James and John Stuart Mill is one of the great dramas of the 19thcentury. In the tense yet loving struggle of this extraordinarily influential father and son, we can see the genesis of evolution of Liberal ideas-about love, sex, and women, wealth and work, authority and rebellion-which ushered in the modern age. The result of more than a decade of research and reflection, this is a study of the relationship between James Mill, the self-made utilitarian philosopher who tried (with only partial success) to shape his son in his own image. Mazlish integrates psychology and intellectual history as part of his larger and continuing effort to spur deeper understanding of the character, limitations, and possibilities of the social sciences.John Stuart Mill's rebellion against a joyless, loveless upbringing, one in strict accordance with the principles of Utilitarianism, was rooted ina powerful Oedipal struggle against his father's authority. Mazlish describes this rebellion as playing an important role in the genesis of classical nineteenth century liberalism. Behind this intellectual development were the women in Mills' life: Harriet the mother, never mentioned by her son in his autobiography, and Harriet Taylor, with whom Mill lived in a scandalous, if chaste, ménage a trois. It was this long relationship which informed his famous essay 'The Subjection of Women,' one of the most eloquent feminist statements ever written. A work of brilliant historical research and psychological insights, James and John Stuart Mill shows how the nineteenth-century struggle of fathers and sons shaped the social transformation of society.

  • Publisher : Princeton University Press
  • Release : 2016-08-23
  • ISBN : 1400883261

Download or read book How Men Age written by Richard G. Bribiescas and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2016-08-23 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking book that examines all aspects of male aging through an evolutionary lens While the health of aging men has been a focus of biomedical research for years, evolutionary biology has not been part of the conversation—until now. How Men Age is the first book to explore how natural selection has shaped male aging, how evolutionary theory can inform our understanding of male health and well-being, and how older men may have contributed to the evolution of some of the very traits that make us human. In this informative and entertaining book, renowned biological anthropologist Richard Bribiescas looks at all aspects of male aging through an evolutionary lens. He describes how the challenges males faced in their evolutionary past influenced how they age today, and shows how this unique evolutionary history helps explain common aspects of male aging such as prostate disease, loss of muscle mass, changes in testosterone levels, increases in fat, erectile dysfunction, baldness, and shorter life spans than women. Bribiescas reveals how many of the physical and behavioral changes that we negatively associate with male aging may have actually facilitated the emergence of positive traits that have helped make humans so successful as a species, including parenting, long life spans, and high fertility. Popular science at its most compelling, How Men Age provides new perspectives on the aging process in men and how we became human, and also explores future challenges for human evolution—and the important role older men might play in them.

Book Femininity Feminism and Recreational Pole Dancing

Download or read book Femininity Feminism and Recreational Pole Dancing written by Kerry Griffiths and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-11-19 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the phenomenon of pole dancing as an increasingly popular fitness and leisure activity for women. It moves beyond previous debates surrounding the empowering or degrading nature of pole dancing classes, and instead explores the complexities of these concepts and highlights that women participating in this practice cannot be seen as one dimensional. Femininity, Feminism and Recreational Pole Dancing explores the construction, negotiation and presentation of a gendered and classed identity and self through participation in pole dancing, the meaning of pole dancing as a fitness practice for women, and the concepts of community and friendship as developed through classes. Using empirical research, the book uncovers the stories and experiences of the women who participate in these classes, and examines what the mainstreaming of this type of sexualised dance means for the women who practice it. Pole dancing is shown to be a practice in which female identities are negotiated, performed and enacted and this book positions pole dancing as an activity which both reinforces but also presents some challenge to ideas of feminism and femininity for the women that participate. Women's participation in pole dancing is described in a discourse of choice and control, yet this book argues that the decision to participate is somewhat constructed by the advertising of these classes as enabling women to create a particular desirable self, which is perpetuated throughout our culture as the ‘ideal’. Exploring the ways in which women attempt to manage impressions and present themselves as ‘respectable’, the book examines how women wish to dis-identify with both women who work as strippers and women who are feminist, seeing both identities as contradictory to the feminine image that they pursue. The book explores the capacity of these classes to offer women some feelings of agency but challenges the idea that participating in pole dancing can offer collective empowerment. The book ultimately argues that women’s participation can be viewed both in terms of their active engagement and enjoyment of these classes and in terms of the structures and pressures which continue to shape their lives. This timely publication explores the complexity of the pole dancing phenomenon and highlights a range of questions surrounding this activity as a leisure form. It will be a valuable contribution to those interested in women’s and gender studies, cultural studies, feminism, sociology and leisure studies.
