Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farmer's Standard of Living: A Socio-Economic Study of 2, 886 White Farm Families of Selected Localities in 11 States Comparisons of these studies and those made later among groups of somewhat higher incomes led to the broad generalization that, as the income increases, the percentage or the proportion of the income devoted to the satisfaction of cultural wants increases and that the proportion of the total expenditures spent for cultural purposes or advancement may be regarded as an index of the standard of living. A variation of the amount of money spent, that is, of the value of goods used annually, by the families of the present study is the pro portion of the total value of family living furnished by the farm. This is given some consideration as a measure of the standard of living. Usually from one-third to one-half of the value of the farm family's living represents food products, use of the house, and fuel furnished from the farm. This part of the family living is not to be had free of cost to the farmer, however. It represents labor (paid and unpaid), capital, and sometimes credit, if not a small outlay of cash for storage purposes or for preparation of the goods Which are furnished. Book Farm Incomes Wealth and Agricultural Policy

Download or read book Farm Incomes Wealth and Agricultural Policy written by Berkeley Hill and published by CABI. This book was released on 2012 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has been supporting the incomes of the European Union's agricultural community for half a century. Despite this, there is still no official system in place to track the economic wellbeing of farmers and their families. This book examines the evidence on the overall wealth of farming households, and concludes that in nearly all member states, they are not generally a poor sector of society, with disposable incomes that are similar to, or exceed, the national average. In this updated edition, the author discusses the latest evidence, makes recommendations for gathering better information, and considers the implications for the CAP as we enter the second decade of the 21st century.
