Book Elementary Agricultural Chemistry A Handbook For

Download or read book Elementary Agricultural Chemistry A Handbook For written by Herbert Ingle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Elementary Agricultural Chemistry; A Handbook For: Junior Agricultural Students and Farmers With the exception of a few corrections and additions, this is a reprint of tho last edition. In an elementary book of this kind the introduction of the results of recent work on the constitution and digestion of proteids may safely wait until the main facts and principles are more fully elaborated by the active investigations which are now being made. Doubtless, in the near future, a conception of tho whole process of digestion will be reached, clear enough for easy presentment to oven elementary students. This little volume is based upon the writer's long experience in teaching agricultural students, among whom there are, unfortunately, many who cannot devote the time necessary to acquire sufficient knowledge of pure chemistry to profitably read such works as the author's "Manual of Agricultural Chemistry." It is true that any attempt to combine, in one book, instruction in the principles of general chemistry with the somewhat technical information concerning tho chemistry of agriculture, must be in many ways a failure, and the author would strongly recommend the user of this work to read some good, modern text-book on the former; or, better perhaps, to ask his teacher to explain, at greater length, the very incomplete and sketchy accounts which are given of the principles of chemistry and of the properties of the elements and compounds important in agriculture. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Muck Manual for Farmers 1. Agricultural Chemistry aims to explain all the actions of earth, air, and water, upon plants. It refers to all their chemical relations, to the geology, mineralogy and chemistry of soil. 2. Agricultural geology explains the relations which soil bears to plants, and the manner in which that affects vegetation. 3. Agricultural geology confines itself to facts. It digs into the earth, observes what composes that; how its components act upon plants. Conversant only with facts, or logical deductions from these, it leaves to geology proper, the vast mass of observations, supported by the highest modern science, which teaches the origin, mode of formation, original condition, and successive changes which our globe has undergone. 4. The terms, primitive and secondary, used by geologists, are almost parts of common language; yet, need to be explained to the farmer. Book Manual of Agricultural Chemistry

Download or read book Manual of Agricultural Chemistry written by Herbert Ingle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Agricultural Chemistry The present volume is based upon lectures delivered annually, for several years past, by the author, to classes of agricultural students, many of whom had already acquired some knowledge of general chemistry. There has always been difficulty in finding a text-book suited to the requirements of such students. An attempt has therefore been made in this work to present to the reader some, at least, of the many problems of agriculture on which chemistry and physics may throw light. In all cases the writer has endeavoured to avoid empiric statements, and to give, as far as possible, an explanation of the facts or phenomena described. Current literature has been freely consulted, and, whenever possible, reference to the source of the information has been given. In some few instances, perhaps, this may not have been done, for in the preparation of lecture notes it often happens that matter is incorporated without a record of its origin being made. In most cases the original paper is named, and, if foreign, the abstract in the Journal of the Chemical Society or in the Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry has, if possible, also been quoted. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Agricultural Chemical User's Manual plays an important role in the efficient and economic production of wholesome food and fibrous products, reducing soil erosion and maintaining human health and lifestyles for an ever increasing world population. Agricultural chemicals are also known as pesticides and include herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. Chemical use is the key to ensuring that agricultural chemicals are beneficial to the community as a whole, and not just beneficial to users only. The community must have confidence that human health and the environment are protected when agricultural chemicals are used. The manual is a tool for anyone involved in pest or weed control activities by providing users with sound scientific advice on a range of subjects including basic pest and weed identification, effective pest and weed control strategies, appropriate application technology as well as ways to reduce the impacts of agricultural chemical spray drift.
