Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation, Vol. 83: December 1946 Income from livestock and produces for lo-month period exceeded last year in all but the South Atlantic Region, where receipts were lower in all States except Maryland and Florida because of decided declines in incomes from broilers and hogs. The largest increase in livestock and products over january-october l9h5 occurred in the west North Central Region, largely because of gains in receipts from hogs. Wholesale milk and hogs were responsible for most of the increase in the East North Central Region, and cattle and whole sale milk in the western Region. This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation: October, 1946 In all regions, farmers' total cash receipts from farm marketings in August were larger than in the same month of 19m5. Increases ranged from 5 percent in the north.atlantic Region to MO percent in the South Central Region, with an average of 2m percent for the country asia whole. Receipts from live stock and products also were substantially above last year in all regions. In the United States as a whole, farmers' receipts from livestock in.august made a little larger percentage gain than did receipts from crops. Although marketil s of meat animals in August fell off somewhat from July, cash receipts from meat animals were still relatively high, with receipts from cattle and hogs well above August 19h5 in each of the central regions. Cash receipts from dairy products made substantial gains over last year in all dairy sections, reflecting generally higher prices, particularly in the North Atlantic, East North Central, and west North Central Regions.' Cash receipts from crops in August were above those of a year earlier in all regions except the North Atlantic. Greater receipts from wheat in the west North Central and western Regions, from tobacco in the South Atlantic Region, and from corn in the East North Central Region were the result of both larger crops and higher prices. Increased receipts from cotton in the South Central Region were a result not only of higher prices but also of the slightly earlier maturing of the crop which permitted larger marketings. In the North Atlantic Region, truck crop prices were down and receipts from truck crops declined rather sharply. During the first 8 months of 19m6, total cash receipts of farmers were greater than in the corresponding period last year in all regions except the North and South Atlantic, where there were no significant changes. Receipts from livestock and, products were higher than a year earlier in the East and West North Central and Western Regions, but lower in other regions. For all regions com bined, receipts showed an increase of 3 percent. Receipts from meat animals rose in most regions, but were down in the North and South Atlantic States. In the West North Central Region, receipts from hogs increased 30 percent. Cash re ceipts from dairy products showed gains in all regions except the South Central. Income from milk was up in all regions; but receipts from butter and cream de clined, reflecting the larger proportion of milk being sold as whole milk. Rbw ceipts from livestock and products were especially low in the South Atlantic Region in comparison with last year, largely because of decided declines in receipts from broilers and hogs. Greater receipts from wheat, oats, and soybeans contributed materially as to the relatively large increases in receipts from crops in the East and West North Central Regions. Receipts from crops in all: other regions except the North Atlantic showed moderate gains, and for the country as a whole increased 12 percent. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Demand and Price Situation: September, 1946 Wage rates have been advancing since early l9u6 and are currently at a higher level than the war peak reached at the beginning of l9h5, despite the r duction in premium rates for overtime and in employment in the high paying war industries. However, as a result of the reduction in hours worked, average weekly earnings per factory worker in July were 9 percent below the peak reach in January 19u5. With a generally tiaht labor market in prospect it is likel that wage rates will continue to advance into next year. With increased emplo ment and higher wage rates, nonagricultural labor income in 1947 may average 10 percent higher than this year, and almost triple the labo, r income of l935a3 Nonagricultural entreer.eneuria1 income is also expected to increase subs.tantia next year. Despite the anticipated decline in income from agriculture and\ smaller Government expenditures, it is likely that total income payments t divifiuals in 19h? May be about 6 percent above 19u6, totaling ab.out 175 bi dollars compared with an estimated 165 billion in l9u6 and the 67 billion: in 1935 39. Income payments in July at a seasonally adjusted annual rate billion dollars were the highest on record aoout 7'billion dollars larger in June and 5 billion dollars greater than in July a year ago. The large crease in July was principally due to the sharp increase in income from a ture although nonagricultural' income payments also advanced substan.tially While th-e level of income payments to individuals is expected to averag next' year, the total income flow to individuals may be lower in the latter p of the year than in the first half. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation: September 1950; Fis-122 Farmers' cash receipts from marketings in 1950 will probably total about billion dollars, or only 2 percent below receipts in 19u9. Prices of all farm products may average slightly higher than last year; but this is more than offset by a 5-percent drop in total marketings. Receipts from livestock and livestock products are estimated at billion dollars, 3 percent higher than in 19m9, whereas the estimated crop total of billion dollars is down 8 percent from last year. The increase for livestock arises from a larger volume of sales, as prices for the year as a whole are likely to average about the same as last year. The decline for cr0ps combines an estimated increase of 5 percent in average prices with a drop in volume of nearly 15 percent.
