Book Theory of Production

Download or read book Theory of Production written by Heinz D. Kurz and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-02-28 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compelling book contains a comprehensive analytical treatment of the theory of production in a long-period framework. Although the authors take a 'Classical' approach to their subject, the scope of investigation and methods employed should interest all economic theorists. Professors Kurz and Salvadori explore economic systems that are characterised by a particular kind of primary input in the production process, such as different kinds of labour and natural resources. These systems and the corresponding prices can be understood to reflect characteristic features of a capitalist market economy in an ideal way: they express the pure logic of the relationship between value and distribution in an economic system. Specific chapters deal with prices and income distribution, economic growth, joint production, fixed capital, scarce natural resources (both renewable and exhaustible), and heterogeneous labour. The historical origins of the concepts used are also discussed in considerable detail.

Book The Distribution of the Product

Download or read book The Distribution of the Product written by John Craven and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-21 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1979, the purpose of this book is to introduce a theory of the distribution of national income between wages, profits and other categories of income. The relation between this branch of distribution theory and other areas of economics is explained in the Introduction. The first six chapters are designed to introduce distribution theory to students of intermediate economic principles. The reader should be familiar with the basic analysis of supply, demand and market equilibrium, and with the use of indifference curves to represent a consumer’s preferences. The remaining seven chapters discuss developments of the theory introduced in the first six.

Book Spectral Theory of Value and Actual Economies

Download or read book Spectral Theory of Value and Actual Economies written by Theodore Mariolis and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-29 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops a unified treatment of the income distribution–capital–value problems with respect to actual economies, and then gradually turns to the issues of effective demand and capitalist accumulation fluctuations from both political economy and economic policy perspectives. That treatment, on the one hand, places produced means of production, positive profits, and capital accumulation at the centre of the analysis and, on the other hand, is analytically based on the modern control theory. Hence, the authors’ investigation is concerned with input–output representations of actual single and joint production, heterogeneous labour, and open economies; zeroes in on the characteristic value distributions of the system matrices; and, finally, derives meaningful theoretical results consistent with the empirical evidence, and vice versa. The main topics addressed are the uncontrollable/unobservable aspects of the real-world economies, the powerful low-order spectral approximations and reconstructions of the inter-industry structure of production–value–distributive variables relationships, the critical-constructive appraisal of both “mainstream” and “radical” theories of value, the matrix demand multipliers and demand-switching policies in heterogeneous capital worlds, and the circular inter-actions amongst income distribution, effective demand, accumulation, and technical conditions of production. Written on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the publication of both Piero Sraffa’s Production of Commodities by Means of Commodities and Rudolf E. Kalman’s paper “On the general theory of control systems”, this book provides a consistent and comprehensive framework for theoretical, empirical, and economic policy research.

Book Capital Theory and Dynamics

Download or read book Capital Theory and Dynamics written by Edwin Burmeister and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1980-11-28 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capital theory and dynamics are cornerstones for almost every branch of economics. Except in a fictional world where the economies of yesterday, today, and tomorrow are identical, issues of capital formation and dynamic behaviour must always arise. Although the specialist literature is technically demanding, Professor Burmeister shows that its important results can be understood and their economic significance grasped by those who do not possess the "mathematical literacy" required to follow rigorous proofs. Even if future events are known with certainty, they still influence the current economic state. This is the pure role of time. That future events are not known with certainty adds another complexity. This book focuses mainly on the pure role of time.

Book Production Sets

Download or read book Production Sets written by Murray C. Kemp and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production Sets is a 12-chapter text that provides a comprehensive account of the properties of production sets. After a brief history of the analysis of production set possibilities, this book goes on examining the flatness of the transformation surface and the properties of production set possibilities with pure intermediate products. The succeeding chapters cover the shape aspects of production sets and the nonsubstitution over the production-possibility frontier. These topics are followed by discussions of some implications of variable returns to scale, specifically the relation between output responses and the shape of the locus of production possibilities. The final chapters explore the production-possibility set with public intermediate goods and the scale effect of public goods on production-possibility sets. These chapters also look into the properties of the per capita production set in the two-sector model of economic growth. This book will prove useful to economists, teachers, and students.

Book Production Economics A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications

Download or read book Production Economics A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications written by Melvyn Fuss and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contributions to Economic Analysis: Production Economics: A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications, Volume 2 focuses on the theory of production from the standpoint of the "dual", the relationships between economic observables which are dual to physical technology. The selection first ponders on duality, intermediate inputs and value-added, Hicks' aggregation theorem and the existence of a real value-added function, and homotheticity and real value-added in Canadian manufacturing. Discussions focus on real value-added and the production structure, estimation of the production structure, double deflation and real value-added, measurement of total productivity, and duality between direct and conditional indirect utility functions. The book then examines the estimation techniques for the elasticity of substitution and other production parameters and measurement of the elasticity of factor substitution and bias of technical change. The publication takes a look at the identification of technical change in the electricity generating industry, factor substitution in electricity generation, and the effectiveness of rate-of-return regulation. Topics include statistical tests of regulatory effectiveness, profit function for a regulated firm, tests of the structure of technology, identification problems in the measurement of technical change, and measurement of disembodied technical change. The selection is a valuable source of information for economists and researchers interested in production economics.

Book Quantitative Economics and Development

Download or read book Quantitative Economics and Development written by L. R. Klein and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic Theory, Econometrics, and Mathematical Economics: Quantitative Economics and Development: Essays in Memory of Ta-Chung Liu focuses on the advancements in the methodologies and processes in the field of quantitative economics. The selection first offers information on society, politics, and economic development, global stability of stochastic economic processes, and the design of mechanisms for the efficient allocation of public goods. Discussions focus on the design of individually incentive compatible mechanisms in an abstract setting, design problem under coalition formation, stability results for the economic models, invariant measures for diffusions, and disjoint principal-components method. The text then takes a look at critical observations on the labor theory of value and Sraffa's Standard Commodity and a generalization of Hotelling's solution. The manuscript examines an exploratory policy-oriented econometric model of a metropolitan area and the effect of simple specification error on the coefficients of "unaffected" variables, including distinctive features of the model and individual sectoral models. Temporal aggregation and econometric models; uniqueness of the representation of commodity-augmenting technical change; and technological change and growth performance in Taiwan agriculture are also discussed. The selection is a valuable source of data for economists and readers interested in quantitative economics.
