Book The Extraction and Separation of Niobium and Tantalum by Liquid liquid Extraction Using Tri n butyl Phosphate

Download or read book The Extraction and Separation of Niobium and Tantalum by Liquid liquid Extraction Using Tri n butyl Phosphate written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The system proposed for the production of niobium and tantalum is liquid-liquid extraction by TBP. The combined niobium and tantalum are extracted with TBP, and the niobium is scrubbed from the organic phase with 4 N sulphuric acid. Any tantalum removed with the niobium is re-extracted with TBP and returned to the extraction circuit. Tantalum is then removed from the organic phase with 8 per cent ammonium fluoride. Recovery figures are given for the various stages of the operation, and equilibrium and settling curves are included. The long-term stability of the process and its final optimization were not investigated, and it is recommended that the optimization should be done during the commissioning of the plant.

Book Solvent Extraction 1990

Download or read book Solvent Extraction 1990 written by T. Sekine and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 870 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solvent extraction is employed very widely in both fundamental research and technology because of the remarkable features of this simple but very effective technique for the separation of different materials. The International Solvent Extraction Conference 1990 was a forum for the presentation of papers on up-to-date research in this field. The collection of the papers in these volumes will be invaluable because information on solvent extraction is often scattered in various journals and proceedings which make the following of developments difficult.

Book The Recovery of Tin and the Production of Niobium Pentoxide and Potassium Tantalum Fluoride from a Tin Slag

Download or read book The Recovery of Tin and the Production of Niobium Pentoxide and Potassium Tantalum Fluoride from a Tin Slag written by Giuseppe Iorio and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the results of testwork on the recovery of tin, niobium, and tantalum from a tin slag. The slag, which consisted mainly of amorphous silica, with varying amounts of calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, and aluminium, contained an average of 8,8 per cent niobium pentoxide and 6,2 per cent tantalum pentoxide. The metallic tin-iron phase was removed from the crushed slag by magnetic separation. The slag was then leached with hydrochloric acid to remove magnesium, calcium, aluminium, iron, manganese, and the remainder of the tin. Leaching with sodium hydroxide for the removal of silica and phosphorus was followed by a final leach with hydrochloric acid for the removal of sodium. The upgraded concentrate thus obtained was purified by leaching with hydrofluoric acid, solvent extraction niobium and tantalum into tri-n-butyl phosphate and methyl isobutyl ketone, and selective stripping of niobium with sulphuric acid and tantalum with ammonium fluoride. Niobium pentoxide and potassium tantalum fluoride were then precipitated by the addition of ammonium hydroxide and potassium fluoride to the respective strip liquors. The overall recoveries in the upgraded concentrate were 98 per cent for tantalum and 92 per cent for niobium. Dissolutions and recoveries of over 99 per cent were obtained for both tantalum and niobium in the purification steps. The niobium pentoxide and potassium tantalum fluoride precipitated obtained were of high purity.

Book Separation of Niobium and Tantalum

Download or read book Separation of Niobium and Tantalum written by Ernest L. Koerner and published by . This book was released on 1956 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During recent years increased interest has been shown in the metal niobium. The Atomic Energy Commission has encouraged research on new methods of winning the metal from its ores with the ultimate hope of finding a process which would yield niobium metal at a reasonable price. This report was written to consolidate the more important information available in the literature on the separation of niobium and tantalum.

Book Separation of Tantalum and Niobium

Download or read book Separation of Tantalum and Niobium written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A liquid-liquid extraction process for the extraction of tantalum and niobium, and their separation from each other is provided. A solution of the fluoride complexes of tantalum and niobium is firstly formed and tantalum extracted therefrom using a selective organic extractant in an amount of not more than 1 mole of extractant per mole of tantalum present. A second tantalum extraction is then carried out similarly, but using a lower concentration of not more than 0,2 moles of the same extractant per mole of tantalum originally present. Niobium is then extracted in a similar way. The extractant is one or more quaternary ammonium compounds dissolved in a hydrocarbon with an oxygen-carrying modifier, normally an alcohol, added. The tantalum and niobium-rich organic phases are optionally washed with acid and subjected to stripping to recover tantalum and niobium, generally in a precipitated form.
