Book The Evolution of Psychic Healing Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Evolution of Psychic Healing Classic Reprint written by Harmon H. McQuilkin and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-13 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Evolution of Psychic Healing The student of history discovers a law underlying the undulating motions of human thought which is known as the law of recurrence. In accordance with it, attention, interest, enthusiasm and allegiance tend to swing back and forth like the pendulum of the old hall clock between different and even conflicting in terpretations and applications of world-facts and world-forces. The tide of individual and race interest ebbs and flows. It has always been so, it will con tinue to_ be so; two psychological facts produce this perpetual motion in mental mechanics - 'the natural aversion to monotony which familiarity produces, and on the other hand, the increasing tyranny of cus tom, popular Opinion and human authority, growing finally into intolerance and over-pressure, from which wholesale revolt is inevitable sooner or later. Now such a fluctuation is illustrated in the regular swing between idealism and materialism, the one reading the literature of being in terms of spirit, the other in terms of matter. The tide of idealistic inter pretation has come in with such thinkers as Plato, Plotinus, Berkeley, Kant; and has gone outwith the coming of such as Epicurus, Zeno, Spencer, Haeckel. Today there is a widespread and thqoroughgoing re volt against materialism with its Gospel of Dirt according to Carlyle. And one of the forms in which this revolt manifests itself is in the strenuous applica tion of psychical forces for the manipulation and alteration of physical conditions. Mind has gone up a good many points in the intellectual stock exchange, While matter is away down below par and selling slow. Thought-force has suddenly become a popular therapeutic agency. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Evolution of Psychic Healing History is a wise teacher, a true prophet, a faithful counselor. With all thy reading, therefore, read history, for thereby thou shalt become old without becoming infirm; some sixty centuries through it shall drop the mantle of their wisdom on thee, and of their sowing thou shalt reap! History repeats itself, sure enough, for it is nothing else than a composite biography of the genus homo, in which all the fundamental qualities and experiences are constant, no matter in what temporal or territorial position they may appear. Life-principles, life-currents, life-experiences move pretty much in undulations. So the future will be essentially like the past. The variations will be more or less on the surface. The moon will change, almanacs and calendars will become obsolete, styles in dress and phrase drapery and methods of work and play will move through spiral circles; but the constitution of man will not be amended by even a majority vote, neither will the forces and principles of the universe be turned backward or aside. Very well; then the things that most deeply concern mankind, the staples of life, know no tenses or moods; the future is the past that remains to be enacted, and the past is the future we face with our back which is only the converse of us. History has, consequently, an oracular voice in which destiny can be read. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Spiritual Healing Classic Reprint

Download or read book Spiritual Healing Classic Reprint written by William Frederick Cobb and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritual Healing Spiritual healing in some form or other meets us in all ages of which the history has been written. Though unknown by this distinctive title, it none the less occupies a large place in savage societies, and is found at later and more advanced stages of growth; and though the area of its activities may have been encroached on, it yet holds its own on its undisputed ground. Even in these days of modern scepticism it has taken on a fresh lease of life, and the activity and growth of Christian Science alone is sufficient to show that there is a vital tenacity about Spiritual Healing which defies the assaults and even the indifference of widely differing ages. The cause of that tenacity, and the place which Spiritual Healing occupies in promot ing, or it may be in hindering, the well-being of man, it is the purpose of the following pages to set out. There are, as usual, two courses Open to an inquiry of this sort. We may start with a definition of what Spiritual Healing is, and then proceed to marshal the evidence in support of our a priori definition. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Conquest of Disease: The Psychology of Mental and Spiritual Healing One of the most Significant revelations of mental and spiritual healing has been the correspondence of mental states and physical conditions, disclosing the fact that the two are really one and identical, that the mental is the realm of cause and the physical that of effect, and that physical healing is essentially mental. More than this: these correspond emees have been observed carefully by many healers and their results compared, so that there is already a considerable body of such knowledge that is available for use in the mental healing of physical disease. Book The True History of Mental Science

Download or read book The True History of Mental Science written by Julius a Dresser and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The True History of Mental Science: The Facts Concerning the Discovery of Mental Healing The foundation principles of what we now term Mental Science are shown by history to have been largely understood by the philosophers of all ages. The philosophy of Plato, who flourished four hun dred years before Christ, was essentially idealistic and the same idealism is set forth in different forms by leading thinkers of succeeding genera tions, notably by Bishop Berkeley, in the seven teenth century. But, while these thinkers mainly agreed that all reality is in the realm of spirit, of which what we see is only an emanation or mani festation, they all failed to apply their philosophy to the healing of disease. Of those who had this understanding previous to our time, only Jesus and his disciples applied it to relieving human ills. All others devoted their teachings simply to modifying and forming character, and to the development of a system of metaphysics. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The trouble with us is that modern "civilization" has drawn us so far away from Nature, that our natural impulses and tendencies have been smothered and stifled...-from "Natural Laws of the Body"Mind over matter... The natural over the artificial... These were the unspoken mantras of the proponents of New Thought, the mystical movement at the turn of the twentieth century that sought to unleash the forces of the universe within humanity. One of the most influential thinkers of this early "New Age" philosophy promises here, in this 1909 book, to show the reader how to "to spread the glad tidings of Health and Strength," by using the body's Prana, or Vital Force; by direct control of the body's cells via the mind, or mental healing; and by calling the light of "higher thought" down on the body, or spiritual healing. An appreciation of our "higher nature," the yogi reminds us, will result in an healthy sense of physical rejuvenation. A century later, it's a lesson many of us-in our anxious, stressful times-can continue to benefit from.American writer WILLIAM WALKER ATKINSON (1862-1932)-aka Yogi Ramacharaka-was born in Baltimore and had built up a successful law practice in Pennsylvania before professional burnout led him to the religious New Thought movement. He served as editor of the popular magazine New Thought from 1901 to 1905, and as editor of the journal Advanced Thought from 1916 to 1919. He authored dozens of New Thought books-including The Philosophies and Religions of India, Arcane Formula or Mental Alchemy and Vril, or Vital Magnetism-under numerous pseudonyms, some of which are likely still unknown today.

Download or read book Spiritual Health and Healing Classic Reprint written by Horatio W. Dresser and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Spiritual Health and Healing Interest in spiritual healing has reached a point where it is no longer necessary to dwell on such elementary matters as the influence of fear and worry, the power of suggestion and the utilizing of the subconscious. These con siderations are now taken for granted by those who believe that inner healing is more than mental. Suggestion is not regarded as decisive except by those who would ignore the spiritual life and limit healing to the Sphere of psychol ogy. For those of us who believe that the spiritual life is inseparable from true spiritual healing, the question of mental influences and mental methods is forever secondary. It ought rather to be a question of cultivating the mode of life which produces Spiritual health. All our efforts should be constructive. Our clues should be drawn from the ideal, not through study of conditions which produce disease. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Followers of the early New Age movement known as New Thought, which was wildly popular at the turn of the 20th century, were intensely interested in gleaning the fruit of all of humanity s spiritual wisdom. Here, in this curious volume originally published in 1909, one of the most influential New Thought writers and editors introduces Western readers to Eastern thought on what, exactly, is on the other side of the river of death. From the geography of the astral plane to the soul-slumber that occurs after death, from communication with spirits to what lies beyond reincarnation, this is a fascinating look at the pop spirituality of a century ago.American writer WILLIAM WALKER ATKINSON (1862 1932) aka Theron Q.
