Book The Evolution of Linkages in European Equity Markets

Download or read book The Evolution of Linkages in European Equity Markets written by Claire G. Gilmore and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of a minimum spanning tree (MST) is used to study the process of comovements for 21 European Union stock market indices. We show how the asset tree and its related hierarchical tree evolve over time and describe the dynamics. Over the period studied, 1999-2006, the French equity market provides the main linkages in the system. The 2004 Accession states are more loosely connected to the other markets; they form two groupings, with the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland having tighter links to the main markets than the remaining accession markets. The consequence for global investors is a potential reduction of the benefits of international portfolio diversification in European markets, with the possible exception of those markets at the outer limits of the MST.

Book Time Frequency Linkages and Co Movements Between the Euro and European Stock Market

Download or read book Time Frequency Linkages and Co Movements Between the Euro and European Stock Market written by Timotheos Paraskevopoulos and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the evolution of co-movement and lead-lag relationships between the nominal effective European exchange rate and the largest European stock markets in the time and frequency dimension. We decompose the financial return series into different time scales and apply the cross-wavelet coherence and phase difference. Within our sample set, which consists of daily data from 2000 to 2016, we observe patterns consistent with the notion of contagion, suggesting strong and sudden increases in the cross-market synchronization on particular frequency bands. Investigating the lead-lag relationships between both markets, we observe periods and frequencies where the causality runs from one variable to the other and vice-versa.

Book Equity Markets in Transition

Download or read book Equity Markets in Transition written by Reto Francioni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-17 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book underscores the complexity of the equity markets, the challenges they face, and the fact that they are still a work in process. Three interacting forces drive market change: competition, technology change, and regulatory change. The markets have one major objective in particular to achieve: the delivery of accurate price discovery for both traders and the broader market. Are we getting it? Are competition, technology, and regulation acting together to improve market quality, or are they adding to the complexity of the markets and making accurate price discovery harder to achieve? The difficulty of addressing these issues and reaching a consensus regarding public policy is reflected in the diverse opinions expressed in this book. From an institutional perspective, the volume’s contributors highlight the interconnectedness of all aspects of the internal and external environment within which exchange organizations act. Equity Markets in Transition underscores how technological evolution and recent regulatory changes have influenced the business, and how these developments have opened new possibilities for exchange organizations and for equity markets as a whole, including such issues as the impact of equity markets on job creation. The book combines both a theoretical and a practical approach. Part I presents a theoretical overview of the international equity market business, including an overall description of the value chain of stock trading that includes deep dives on every decisive step. Part II contains contributions from various business specialists who have specific practical and academic knowledge of the different steps. Equity Markets in Transition represents a unique combination of theoretical and practical analysis that offers first-hand insights on all relevant interactions and interrelations among the various parts of the exchange business, with an emphasis on facilitating analysis of the status quo and of emerging trends regarding business models, regulation, and the development of the competitor, customer and investor sides.

Book Dynamic Linkages Among Developed Emerging and Frontier Equity Markets of Europe

Download or read book Dynamic Linkages Among Developed Emerging and Frontier Equity Markets of Europe written by Nisha Thomas and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this paper is to investigate long run relationship between developed, emerging and frontier markets of Europe. The paper applies Zivot and Andrews unit root test to examine stationarity of index series in the existence of a structural break. To account for instability in the long-run relationship between European developed, emerging and frontier markets, Gregory and Hansen test for cointegration is employed. The results suggest that European emerging markets are segmented from their matured counterparts, whereas unexpectedly, frontier markets are well integrated with the developed markets. Hence, emerging markets, and not frontier markets, provide good diversification opportunities to longterm investors. This evidence questions the de-facto assumption that only dominant markets influence smaller markets. These findings are expected to provide valuable inputs to global investors for creating an optimal investment portfolio.

Download or read book Anatomy of Global Stock Market Crashes written by Gagari Chakrabarti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-05 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is an exploration of the global market dynamics, their intrinsic natures, common trends and dynamic interlinkages during the stock market crises over the last twelve years. The study isolates different phases of crisis and differentiates between any crisis that remains confined to the region and those that take up a global dimension. The latent structure of the global stock market, the inter-regional and intra-regional stock market dynamics around the crises are analyzed to get a complete picture of the structure of the global stock market. The study further probing into the inherent nature of the global stock market in generating crisis finds the global market to be chaotic thus making the system intrinsically unstable or at best to follow knife-edge stability. The findings have significant bearing at theoretical level and on policy decisions.
