This book was released on 2017-10-27 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Engineering and Economic Consideration of a Low Pressure Steam Turbine Installation Only as to the prime movers alone, but as effecting the auxiliary equipment as well. These changes have all tended toward the reduction in the size of power houses for equal capacity. Now comes the low pressure turbine and no such radical changes are necessary in order to Obtain improved results. It is not necessary to discard old apparatus or to make any great changes in the Operating conditions to take advantage of the saving Offered by the use of a low pressure turbine. The low pressure turbine does require, however, that additional Space be provided. The low pressure turbine can be used in connection with the most antiquated steam engine installation and greatly improve the economy Of the station. The low pressure turbine is therefore very attractive to central station owners as it increases the. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Download or read book The Application of Low Pressure Turbines Classic Reprint written by Westinghouse Machine Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Application of Low Pressure Turbines The following may be cited as questions which arise when such an installation is contemplated. Is there enough steam for the low pressure turbine, and has its quantity been properly estimated? Although for preliminary, purposes a sufficiently accurate guess of the available quantity of steam may be made, the use of indicator cards from the high pressure machines is advisable. The analysis of these cards may be made in a most satisfactory manner by the method described before the A. S. M. E. At Cleveland in May, 1912, by Mr. Paul Clayton. Steam meters furnish an alternative method of arriving at the desired figures, although the preferable procedure is a complete test of the boiler plant itself. It is advisable to make a deduction of 1_o% from the apparently available amount of steam to allow for the moisture in the exhaust from the engines. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Design and Construction of Steam Turbines: A Manual for the Engineer Mr. Alexander Richardson procured for the author complete data of important turbine tests, which have proved invaluable. TO Mr. W. Chilton and Mr. J. M. Newton, B. Se., Of the Brush Electrical Engineering Company, a special meed Of thanks is due for the results Of some Of their experiments on blading. The general scheme of this volume was decided on after much consideration, and the author finally adopted the plan of giving, without prior proof, important rules and formulas in a shape convenient for immediate practical application. The demonstrations are proceeded with later, in the belief that they will be the more readily followed by the average reader, when he has previously been impressed with the utility of the result. Book Steam Turbine Principles and Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book Steam Turbine Principles and Practice Classic Reprint written by Terrell Croft and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-10-08 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Steam-Turbine Principles and Practice Steam-turbine principles and practice has been pre pared, for the practical man, to furnish this information. It has been written to provide the operating engineer, the plant superintendent, or manager with such steam-turbine information as he requires in his everyday work. The aim has been to treat only topics of two general classes: (1) Those with which a man must be familiar to insure the successful and economical Operation of steam turbines. (2) Those a knowledge of which is necessary to enable a man - one who is not familiar with the details of its design or theory - to make a wise choice if he contemplates the purchase of a turbine. Only sufficient theory is given to insure a sound understanding of the principles Of turbine operation. The design of turbines is not treated at all. A working knowledge Of arithmetic will enable one to read the book intelligently. Drawings for nearly all Of the 282 illustrations were made especially for this work. It has been the endeavor to so design and render these pictures that they will convey the desired information with a minimum Of supplementary discussion. Book The Westinghouse Parsons Steam Turbine

Download or read book The Westinghouse Parsons Steam Turbine written by Westinghouse MacHine Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Westinghouse-Parsons Steam Turbine: A Description, With Suggestions and Instructions for Its Installation, Care and Operation While the turbine is simple in design and construction, and does not require constant tinkering and adjustment of valve gears, or taking up of wear in the running parts, it is like any other piece of fine machinery, in that it Should receive intelligent and careful attention from the operator by inspection Of the working parts that are not at all times in plain view. Any piece of machinery, no matter ho'w simple and durable, if neglected or abused, will in time come to grief, and the higher the class of the machine, the more is this true. The experienced engineer understands, in a general way, the principles and Operation of almost any piece of apparatus that he may come across in the power house. At the same time there are points about any new machine that he has to learn, either from his own experience or the previous experience of others, and the latter supplemented and confirmed by the former, is perhaps apt to be the least costly. In the case Of the ordinary large size reciprocating engine, where it is almost never run and sometimes not even assembled in the shop, the operating engineer can Often tell the builders more about the care and operation of the engine than they are able to tell him; but in the case of the turbine, which is not only assembled but is thoroughly tested and operated for some time in the shop, the builders have had continued and varied experience under all sorts of conditions, and are, therefore, in a position to give advice in regard to its operation and mainte nance. The Object of this pamphlet is to cover in a general manner the principal features Of construction and methods of operation common to all Westinghouse turbines, the details occasionally met with in special types being described in a separate pamphlet covering each particular case. Book The Steam Turbine Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Steam Turbine Classic Reprint written by Robert Morrison Neilson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-10-05 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Steam Turbine The author has endeavoured in this book to describe, not only the principal parts of the leading types of steam turbine, but also the small details which, in the case of this motor, have such a preponderating influence in determining success or failure. The theory of the action of the steam turbine is also treated of, and the subject is likewise dealt with historically. Comparisons have necessarily been made with the hydraulic turbine and with the reciprocating engine; but, with a view to extending the usefulness of the book, the author has assumed on the part of the reader no prior knowledge of the hydraulic turbine, and only an elementary knowledge of the reciprocating engine and of the laws of thermo-dynamics. With a like object in view the author has tried to make the mathematical reasoning as simple as possible.
