Book Guide to the California Outback

Download or read book Guide to the California Outback written by Ronnie Fife, Jr. and published by . This book was released on 2007-08 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ecotourism is becoming very popular worldwide. Getting deep in nature and pushing yourself to new limits will help you rediscover what you thought you lost. In California, it is very diverse with mountains, deserts, caves, and a network of rivers. It would take years to truly explore them all. Whether it is driving off road in a National Forest, going scuba diving in the Ocean, or camping by caves to overcome fears, it will be an experience to remember. As a single father and Scuba Diving Instructor, I received many compliments from students, old friends, and family on looking years younger than I actually was. Though I did get certified as a personal trainer at one point in life, I couldn't see myself being indoors to exercise all the time. I felt that staying active and happy was the best way to cope with life's obstacles and remain in decent shape. There is an endless variety of outdoor activity by our home that has left me limping into work on Monday many times grunting with pain. The sunburn didn't make it feel any better either. I like it and it keeps me feeling alive. My intention in this guide is to get people outdoors, feel the rush from the outdoor sports, and to remember what it is like to feel young again. For the younger generation, there are plenty of challenges here for you too. Have fun and be safe. Cheers,

Book excerpt: The man who has lived a classic rags-to-riches life story turns his passion for daring and challenge into life lessons on personal and professional achievement. The genius behind the wildly popular Survivor series, Mark Burnett is now the hottest producer in television. What most people dont know, however, is that Burnett has his own survival story to tell, and its every bit as riveting as the show. A decade ago, he was selling t-shirts on the beach in Southern California. But through a combination of inspiration, determination, and sheer nerve, he transformed his life, went on to produce an Emmy-winning extreme sports program, and, of course, created the most popular series on the air today. A former paratrooper and an open-water certified SCUBA diver, Mark Burnett has used his life of daring experiences as a jumping-off point, and now shows readers how to chase their dreams, ignore their fears, and follow the road less traveled to personal and business success. His book unfolds like a real-life adventure story, offering valuable lessons, inspirational vignettes, and hard-hitting advice. Burnetts recipe for success encourages people to bend the rules, embrace risk, lead with compassion, learn through failure, revel in pain, and focus like a laser on their goals. By following this blend of heart and chutzpah, youll not only survive, but go on to succeed beyond your wildest dreams.

Book excerpt: In this remarkable book, Anna Quindlen, one of America’s favorite novelists and a Pulitzer Prize– winning columnist, once again gives us wisdom, opinions, insights, and reflections about current events and modern life. “Always insightful, rooted in everyday experience and common sense...Quindlen is so good that even when you disagree with what she says, you still love the way she says it,” said People magazine about her number one New York Times bestseller Thinking Out Loud, and the same can be said about Loud and Clear. With her trademark insight and her special ability to convey the impact public events have on ordinary lives, Quindlen here combines commentary on American society and the world at large with reflections on being a woman, a writer, and a mother. In these pieces, first written for Newsweek and The New York Times, Loud and Clear takes on topics ranging from social change to raising children, from the political and emotional aftermath of September 11 to personal values, from the impact on individuals of global events to the growth that can be gained by spending summer days staring into the middle distance. Grounding the public in the private, connecting people to each other and to the greater world, Quindlen encourages us to develop authentic lives, even as she serves as a catalyst for political and social change. “Anna Quindlen’s beat is life, and she’s one hell of a terrific reporter,” said Susan Isaacs, and Quindlen’s unique qualities of understanding and discernment, everywhere evident in her previous bestsellers, including A Short Guide to a Happy Life and Living Out Loud, can be found on every page of this provocative and inspiring book.

Book excerpt: A New York Times bestseller! A revelatory look at how our environment unconsciously yet dramatically shapes the judgments and decisions we make every day Most of us go through life believing that we are in control of the choices we make—that we think and behave almost independently from the world around us. But as Drunk Tank Pink illustrates, the truth is our environment shapes our thoughts and actions in myriad ways without our permission or even our knowledge. Armed with surprising data and endlessly fascinating examples, Adam Alter addresses the subtle but substantial ways in which outside forces influence us—such as color’s influence on mood, our bias in favor of names with which we identify, and how sunny days can induce optimism as well as aggression. Drunk Tank Pink proves that the truth behind our feelings and actions goes much deeper than the choices we take for granted every day.
