Dealing specifically with disabilities, this pioneering work is based on international research spanning several European countries to demonstrate best practice. Aiming to fill a gap in knowledge, the authors offer interdisciplinary insights into managing diversity in the workplace, taking into account various social and cultural contexts. Providing analysis and recommendations for adapting organisational practices to different workplace settings, this Palgrave Pivot is a vital read for scholars of HRM and diversity management, as well as policy-makers and practitioners.

Book The Employment Effects of the Disability Education Gap in Europe

Download or read book The Employment Effects of the Disability Education Gap in Europe written by Maciej Albinowski and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We investigate the role of education in creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities across the European Union. We use the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) for 2011-2019. We find that educational attainment is a major factor determining the probability of employment among persons with disabilities. In particular, the employment effects of tertiary education are much larger among persons with disabilities than among non-disabled people: that is, having a disability is a greater disadvantage for less educated than for better educated people. We provide evidence that the endogeneity of educational attainment does not drive these findings. We also uncover substantial heterogeneity in the role of education between countries. In more developed countries, the employment status of persons with disabilities is generally less dependent on their educational attainment. Overall, we estimate that 20% of the disability employment gap in the 25-34 age group can be attributed to the gap in education between individuals with and without disabilities.

Book The Crossroads Privacy Disability and Employment

Download or read book The Crossroads Privacy Disability and Employment written by Enrique Opi Tufet and published by Europa Edizioni. This book was released on 2020-05-31 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Privacy, dignity, equality, and non-discrimination are fundamental values upon which the European Union was founded. They are firmly embedded in the Treaties of the European Union, the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, and secondary legislation. Combatting discrimination in the labour market and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities are core obligations of the European Union. Not many are aware that more than 15 per cent of the total potential workforce of the European Union has some form of disability - of which over 50 per cent are unemployed. This is all the more reason for the EU to maintain its commitment to include these indivuduals in the labour force and to guarantee their fair treatment and protection of their particularly sensitive data. It is precisely in this light that The Crossroads: Privacy, Disability and Employment must be seen: a sort of driving manual for disability organizations. It will be important to collect, process and handle personal data and to embrace new technologies without compromising privacy in the process. This manual also provides the various stakeholders with relevant articles of the GDPR and other legislative texts to equip them with sufficient knowledge and useful tools to ensure and to successfully navigate the crossroads between privacy and employment for persons with disabilities. Enrique Opi Tufet is an “actibilist”, a term he coined some time ago to describe an activist on disability issues. He has an LL.M. in International Law from Vrije Universiteit Brussel and he is a certified Data Protection Officer (DPO) by Maastricht University. Currently, Enrique acts as a Regional Director of Inserta/Fundación ONCE in Spain, an employment and disability program funded by the European Social Fund. He himself has a visual disability and is therefore intimately familiar with the challenges persons with disabilities face. Before Inserta, Enrique was the Corporate Vice President and General Counsel of Epson Europe. Previously, he led the Brussels operations of two major worldwide public relations agencies. He has written a number of articles and contributions addressing environmental policy, sustainability and communications. Enrique lives in Barcelona with his wife and son.

Book Disability and Employment

Download or read book Disability and Employment written by Maria Ventegodt Liisberg and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book defined a contemporary disability human rights approach for the field of employment. Based on an analysis of the newly-adopted UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and present-day interpretations of international and European human rights instruments, the book identifies four main requirements as characterizing the contemporary disability human rights approach on the labor market: 1) substantive equality founded on inclusive general structures, 2) a definition of disability which recognizes that disability results from the interaction between impairment and social structures and that all persons may, at one time or another, be disabled, 3) involvement of organizations of disabled persons in law and policy-making, and 4) a rights-based approach. It examines Danish and Swedish employment law and policy, as well as their compliance. In addition, EU law and policy is examined. The analysis and comparison of Danish and Swedish law and policy concentrates on four different areas of employment law and policy: disability equality, employers' obligations towards employees with disabilities and/or reduced working capacity, employment promotion for unemployed persons with disabilities, and income-replacement for persons with disabilities outside the labor market. The comparison shows that the main difference between Danish and Swedish disability employment law lies in the level of employers' obligations under employment protection law, as well as health and safety law. It is argued that this difference leads to more inclusive general structures on the labor market in Sweden and constitutes the main explanation for the extreme difference in employment rates for persons with disabilities and reduced working capacity in Denmark and Sweden.
