Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Blowpipe Analysis These few pages are intended to serve a twofold purpose, - to give the student a general outline of Blowpipe Analysis, and to introduce him to the methods of Determinative Mineralogy. Every effort has been made to simplify details so that the book may be used in both High Schools and Colleges. Tables for "systematic" examination have been intentionally omitted, for in the author's estimation these tend to dull the student's power of observation, and to make him place little value upon minute details. The alphabetic arrangement has been followed for the sake of convenience when referring to the book. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Pocket Handbook of Blowpipe Analysis

Download or read book Pocket Handbook of Blowpipe Analysis written by G. Montague Butler and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pocket Handbook of Blowpipe Analysis: Designed for the Use of Students and Prospectors With the Idea of Making Oral Instruction Unnecessary This little book was written, primarily, to satisfy the demands of those instructors who have been using the author's Pocket Handbook of Minerals as a text-book for courses in mineralogy. While there is no doubt that a thorough knowledge of the physical characteristics of minerals should be the end sought by all teachers and students of this subject, it is often desirable to be able to fall back upon other simple tests in corroboration of conclusions reached by observation, or when studying an unfamiliar mineral. For this purpose, blowpipe analysis is very satisfactory, since the necessary implements and reagents are comparatively few and simple and may be so selected as to be portable. While there are many works on this subject, they are either too comprehensive for the purpose for which this is intended, or else form merely an introductory chapter to a work on mineralogy. In both cases, their purchase entails a needlessly high expense, and their directions and statements are often so vague and incomplete as to require continual explanation by an instructor. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Alphabetical Manual of Blowpipe Analysis: Showing All Known Methods Old and New Your highness, - In availing myself of Your Highness's gracious permission to inscribe to you these humble fruits of twenty years' study, I em anxious to show that such a, daring ambition is not so utterly un worthy of its great object as it may seem to those Who have not investigated the almost untrodden paths of this comparatively new science. The Chemical Blowpipe is a legacy left to the Wiser nations of Europe by the Swedes, whose work in the matter died With Berzelius at Stock holm in I 84 5. It is an instrument Which with ap paratus costs only a few shillings, and is therefore available to the humblest workman. Treated With the consideration due to its modest excellence, it teaches us the proportional combinations (or chemis try) of inorganic substances in fusion by a direct source of heat just as ordinary chemistry consists in a knowledge of the molecular proportions in Which substances contained in water-solutions of acids or alkalies, or of both, combine to form other definite substances or salts. Book Manual of Determinative Mineralogy

Download or read book Manual of Determinative Mineralogy written by George J. Brush and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-21 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Determinative Mineralogy: With an Introduction on Blow-Pipe Analysis The present work is a complete revision of the "Manual of Determinative Mineralogy and Blowpipe Analysis" by Prof. Geo. J. Brush, which has been very generally used since its first appearance in 1847, as shown by the fact that fourteen editions of it have appeared. In 1896 a revision of introductory chapters devoted to blowpipe analysis and the chemical reactions of the elements was published, and there are now added a chapter on the physical properties of minerals, devoted chiefly to crystallography, and a new set of analytical tables for the identification of minerals. In preparing the introductory chapters, great pains has been taken in the selection of the tests for the elements. Many of the experiments are performed by means of the blowpipe, but chemical tests in the wet way are recommended when it is believed that they are more decisive. All the tests have been carefully verified, and many of them have been devised especially for the present work. To make the book more convenient for reference, conspicuous headlines and catch-words have been freely used. The tests for the rare elements, and those for the common ones which are only occasionally employed, are printed in small type. It is hoped that the plan adopted of giving full directions concerning the methods of manipulation and the quantities of materials to be taken in making many of the tests will be found useful. It must be borne in mind constantly that accuracy is of the utmost importance in determinative mineralogy, and it is believed that no methods are so generally to be relied upon for giving decisive results as those based upon the identification of the chemical constituents of the minerals. Book Practical Guide to the Determination of Metals by the Blowpipe Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2016-08-16 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Guide to the Determination of Metals by the Blowpipe IN introducing to English readers this treatise on the practical application of blowpipe analysis, my aim has not been to super sede, or compete with, the able and more exhaustive works on the same subject, already available in the language. These explain all that may be effected by a skilled chemist Operating with the blow pipe while the present volume performs the humbler function of enabling any one, possessed of rudimentary acquaintance with the art of chemical manipulation, to recognise easily and certainly any fairly well-marked mineralogical species. I have endeavoured so to present Professor Fuchs' tractate that it shall be in the highest degree serviceable, not only to the student of mineralogical science, but also to the less purely scientific investigator, in the mine or the quarry. Book The Use of the Blowpipe in Chemistry and Mineralogy Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Use of the Blowpipe in Chemistry and Mineralogy Tm: constantly increasing interest which is felt in the sciences of chemistry and mineralogy in this coun try, as well as the rapid development of our mineral resources, seems to render it expedient that a treatise on the use of that indispensable instrument, the blow pipe, should be rendered accessible to the chemists, mineralogists and miners of this country. The edition of the standard work on the blowpipe, so recently pub lished by Berzelius, seems to contain all that could be wished for on this subject, and the translator presumes, that, if the translation shall prove to have been properly executed, he will have rendered acceptable service to science.
