Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides an advanced and up-to-date account of the theory of nuclear structure and discusses in considerable detail both the superfluid and collective models of the nucleus, in addition to earlier complementary models and theories. The book also examines other important topics such as the rotational and vibrational spectra of nuclei which have not previously been treated in such depth. To summarize, it covers a large amount of theoretical ground in one volume and attempts to fill a serious gap in the literature. Many problems are included

Book On the Theory of the Polarization of Nucleons by Deuterons

Download or read book On the Theory of the Polarization of Nucleons by Deuterons written by Kenneth Smith and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In anticipation of the availability of the phase-shifts and mixing parameters, which are being calculated by Bransden, Smith, and Tate for the elastic scattering of nucleons by deuterons (with tensor forces), the von Neuman density matrix and Racah algebra were used to derive expressions for the average value of the spin operator in the emerging beam of nucleons after single and double scattering from un-polarized deuterons. The values of the geometrical factors which appear in these expressions were calculated on an IBM-650 digital computing machine and are given in the form of tables. The range of the angular momentum quantum numbers was chosen to cover nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-deuteron problems up to J, the total angular momentum, equal to five.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two comprehensive reviews in this volume address two fundamental problems that have been of long-standing interest and are the focus of current effort in contemporary nuclear physics: exploring experimentally the density distributions of constituents within the nucleus and understand ing nuclear structure and interactions in terms of hadronic degrees of freedom. One of the major goals of experimental probes of atomic nuclei has been to discover the spatial distribution of the constituents within the nucleus. As the energy and specificity of probes have increased over the years, the degree of spatial resolution and ability to select specific charge, current, spin, and isospin densities have correspondingly increased. In the first chapter, Batty, Friedman, Gils, and Rebel provide a thorough review of what has been learned about nuclear density distributions using electrons, muons, nucleons, antinucleons, pions, alpha particles, and kaons as probes. This current understanding, and the limitations thereof, are crucial in framing the questions that motivate the next generation of experimental facilities to study atomic nuclei with electromagnetic and hadronic probes. The second chapter, by Machleidt, reviews our current understanding of nuclear forces and structure in terms of hadronic degrees of freedom, that is, in terms of mesons and nucleons. Such an understanding in terms of hadronic variables is crucial for two reasons. First, since effective hadronic theories are quite successful in describing a broad range of phenomena in low-energy nuclear physics, and there are clear experimental signatures of meson exchange currents in nuclei, we must understand their foundations.

Book Nucleon Nucleon Realistic Interaction in Electron Scattering

Download or read book Nucleon Nucleon Realistic Interaction in Electron Scattering written by Khalid S. Jassim and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-10 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) interaction derived from nuclear realistic potential, is used to study elastic and inelastic electron scattering form factors in light nuclei, where a microscopic theory is employed to include the effects of high configuration outside the 1p-shell model space, which is called core-polarization (cp) effects. Higher energy excitations from 1s-shell core orbits and also from the valence 1p-shell to higher allowed orbits up to 1d5/2 2s1/2 1d3/2 are considered for core-polarization calculations. the outlined theory of elastic and inelastic electron scattering were presented in chapter two. Chapter three of this book devoted to the derivation of the core-polarization effects with higher configuration in the first order perturbation theory and the two-body matrix elements of three part of the realistic interaction: central, spin orbit and strong tensor force, where the two-body matrix elements calculation in harmonic oscillator single-particle basis using Moshinisky transformation. Results, discussions and conclusion are presented in chapter four.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents an extended version of the lecture course on the theory of nuclear reactions that has been given by the author for some years in Kiev State University. An account is given of the nonrelativistic nuclear reaction theory. The R — matrix description of nuclear reactions is considered and the dispersion method is formulated. Mechanisms of nuclear reactions and their relationship are studied in detail. Attention is paid to nuclear reactions involving the compound nuclear formation and to direct nuclear processes. The optical model, the diffraction approach and high — energy diffraction nuclear processes involving composite particles are discussed. It also deals with some problems treated only in special journal papers.
