Download or read book How I Wish I Had Taught Maths Reflections on research conversations with experts and 12 years of mistakes written by Craig Barton and published by John Catt. This book was released on 2018-01-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I genuinely believe I have never taught mathematics better, and my students have never learned more. I just wish I had known all of this twelve years ago."Craig Barton is one of the UK's most respected teachers of mathematics. In his remarkable new book, he explains how he has delved into the world of academic research and emerged with a range of simple, practical, effective strategies that anyone can employ to save time and energy and have a positive impact on the long-term learning and enjoyment of students. Craig presents the findings of over 100 books and research articles from the fields of Cognitive Science, Memory, Psychology and Behavioural Economics, together with the conversations he has had with world renowned educational experts on his Mr Barton Maths Podcast, and subsequent experiments with my students and colleagues.
Download or read book Creativity and Technology in Mathematics Education written by Viktor Freiman and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 552 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides new insights on creativity while focusing on innovative methodological approaches in research and practice of integrating technological tools and environments in mathematics teaching and learning. This work is being built on the discussions at the mini-symposium on Creativity and Technology at the International Conference on Mathematical Creativity and Giftedness (ICMCG) in Denver, USA (2014), and other contributions to the topic. The book emphasizes a diversity of views, a variety of contexts, angles and cultures of thought, as well as mathematical and educational practices. The authors of each chapter explore the potential of technology to foster creative and divergent mathematical thinking, problem solving and problem posing, creative use of dynamic, multimodal and interactive software by teachers and learners, as well as other digital media and tools while widening and enriching transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary connections in mathematics classroom. Along with ground-breaking innovative approaches, the book aims to provide researchers and practitioners with new paths for diversification of opportunities for all students to become more creative and innovative mathematics learners. A framework for dynamic learning conditions of leveraging mathematical creativity with technology is an outcome of the book as well.

This book was released on 2024-05-31 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no doubt that the onset of a new decade has brought high expectations of academic progress for scholars, especially for researchers in mathematics education. The International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education was born in 1976, which focused on the international exchange of knowledge in the psychology of mathematics education, the promotion of interdisciplinary research with psychologists, mathematicians and mathematics teachers, and the development of the psychological aspects of teaching and learning mathematics and its implications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern Mathematics is constructed rigorously through proofs, based on truths, which are either axioms or previously proven theorems. Thus, it is par excellence a model of rational inquiry. Links between Cognitive Psychology and Mathematics Education have been particularly strong during the last decades. Indeed, the Enlightenment view of the rational human mind that reasons, makes decisions and solves problems based on logic and probabilities, was shaken during the second half of the twentieth century. Cognitive psychologists discovered that humans' thoughts and actions often deviate from rules imposed by strict normative theories of inference. Yet, these deviations should not be called "errors": as Cognitive Psychologists have demonstrated, these deviations may be either valid heuristics that succeed in the environments in which humans have evolved, or biases that are caused by a lack of adaptation to abstract information formats. Humans, as the cognitive psychologist and economist Herbert Simon claimed, do not usually optimize, but rather satisfice, even when solving problem. This Research Topic aims at demonstrating that these insights have had a decisive impact on Mathematics Education. We want to stress that we are concerned with the view of bounded rationality that is different from the one espoused by the heuristics-and-biases program. In Simon’s bounded rationality and its direct descendant ecological rationality, rationality is understood in terms of cognitive success in the world (correspondence) rather than in terms of conformity to content-free norms of coherence (e.g., transitivity).
