Book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy of Big Sky Conference Men s and Women s Teams

Download or read book The Effects of a Target Rim on Basketball Shooting Accuracy of Big Sky Conference Men s and Women s Teams written by Raymond A. La Bate and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the basketball target rim on 2 pt. field goal, 3 pt. field goal and free throw shooting accuracy in men's and women's intercollegiate basketball. The Big Sky Conference men's and women's basketball teams agreed to participate in this study during the 1993-94 season. Data collection for analysis involved individual game shooting statistics and included the compilation of free throw, 2 pt. field goal and 3 pt. field goal shooting statistics. Target rims were provided to four of the conference schools and standard rims, of the same make, were used at the alternate four schools. Analysis of the data included a comparison of shooting accuracy achieved at the schools equipped with the target rims, versus the shooting accuracy achieved at the schools equipped with the standard rims. Two null hypothesis with three variables each, were tested at the 0.05 level of significance. Analysis of the data using a Pearson Chi-square test revealed that there does not appear to be a significant relationship between target rim and non-target rim shooting performance for Big Sky Conference men's or women's basketball teams. A review of the shooting performances by site indicates that there was a trend for more consistent and higher free throw percentages for the men's and women's teams at the target rim sites. Also, 3 pt. shooting at men's target sites was 0.8 percentage points higher than at non- target sites, and women's 2 pt. field goal percentage at target sites was 1.0 percentage point higher than the non-target sites"--Document.

Book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players

Download or read book The Effect of an Aiming Apparatus on Shooting Accuracy of Female Collegiate Basketball Players written by Michele Elaine Rupe and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of an aiming apparatus on female collegiate basketball players' shooting accuracy. The study was conducted with two Division II Women's basketball programs during the 1994-95 season. The experimental and control groups participated in a pre-test, mid-test and post-test to measure shooting accuracy changes over a 16 week period between Dec . 1, 1994 and Feb. 28, 1995. Each test consisted of 65 field goal attempts from 13 designated spots out to and including three point range, along the baseline, at 45 degree angles, and straight out from the basket as well as 20 free throw attempts. The control group did not participate in practice sessions with the device. The practice sessions were designed to examine the effect of immediate transfer by including a set of shots with the device followed by immediate practice on a basket without the device. The results ofthe experimental group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores while using the device for 30 practice sessions were compared to the results of the control group's pre-test, mid-test, and post- test scores without the use of the device or practice sessions to determine significance. A Repeated Measures of ANOVA statistical test was used to determine if a significant difference existed between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores. Alpha was chosen at the .05 level. The experimental group improved in all four categories of shooting when comparing their scores with and without the device during the 30 practice sessions. The overall field goal percentage increased from 60.9% to 65.9%, the two point percentage from 74.4% to 77.2%, three point percentage from 39.5% to 48%, and free throw percentage from 76.3% to 78. 1%. Even though the study found positive results in the experimental group's shooting percentages in the four categories, significant difference was not found between the experimental and control group's pre-test, mid-test and post-test scores"--Document.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a basketball target rim on field goal and free throw shooting accuracy in men's intercollegiate basketball. The subjects of this study were those players composing EWU's basketball team and opposing teams. Data were gathered during the 1984-85 basketball season. The criteria of measurement consisted of free throw and field goal shooting accuracy comparing two types of basketball rims; a target rim and a standard rim. Three null hypotheses were tested at the .01 level of significance. An analysis of the data using a t-test revealed field goal shooting accuracy was significantly better on the target rim for the visiting team. No significant difference was revealed in free throw shooting accuracy on the target rim"--Document.

Book Improving Practice and Performance in Basketball

Download or read book Improving Practice and Performance in Basketball written by Aaron T. Scanlan and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-11-18 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being one of the most popular sports worldwide, basketball has received limited research attention compared to other team sports. Establishing a strong evidence base with high-quality and impactful research is essential in enhancing decision-making processes to optimize player performance for basketball professionals. Consequently, the book entitled Improving Performance and Practice in Basketball provides a collection of novel research studies to increase the available evidence on various topics with strong translation to practice in basketball. The book includes work by 40 researchers from 16 institutions or professional organizations from 9 countries. In keeping with notable topics in basketball research, the book contains 2 reviews focused on monitoring strategies to detect player fatigue and considerations for travel in National Basketball Association players. In addition, 8 applied studies are also included in the book, focused on workload monitoring, game-related statistics, and the measurement of physical and skill attributes in basketball players. This book also has a strong focus on increasing the evidence available for female basketball players, who have traditionally been under-represented in the literature. The outcomes generated from this book should provide new insights to inform practice in many areas for professionals working in various roles with basketball teams.
