Book Building Self Efficacy in Fifth Grade Art Students Through Authentic Assessments and Self Regulating Strategies

Download or read book Building Self Efficacy in Fifth Grade Art Students Through Authentic Assessments and Self Regulating Strategies written by Hannah Richardson and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research explores solutions and challenges pertaining to a child's development of self-efficacy. After working with fifth grade students in a public education setting, Inoticed an increased reliance on teachers for both creative and procedural directions. This paper explores research of educators who examine the internal and external factors that influence the development of a child's self-efficacy. The study measures the development of self-efficacy over a two-month period, after a Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland, et al., 2013) Checklist and self-regulating strategies have been integrated into the curriculum. Data is collected through the use of pre-and post- metacognitive surveys, the Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland, et al., 2013) Checklist, observations, and post- interviews. The data collected from the pre- and post- metacognitive surveys is inconclusive. The other data collected through student written and verbal statements, conversations, and interviews demonstrates that by creating a classroom environment that incorporates the Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland, et al., 2013) students' self-efficacy can be improved. This study then outlines specific assessment and instructional strategies that can help teachers incorporate the Studio Habits of Mind (Hetland, et al., 2013) into any elementary art program. Appendices include: (1) Student Metacognitive Awareness Inventory; (2) Protocol for Distributing Metacognitive Survey; (3) Teacher Observations of Student Metacognitive Awareness Inventory; (4) Studio Habits of Mind Checklist; (5) Interview Protocol Form; (6) Parental Consent Form for Participation in Research: Media Elementary School; (7) Research Site Support Form: Media Elementary School; (8) Parental Consent Form for Participation in Research: Rose Tree Elementary School; (9) Research Site Support Form: Rose Tree Elementary School; (10) Teacher Consent Form; (11) Unit Plan: Underwater Value Scales; (12) Pre-Planning Reflection Questions; and (13) Reflective Worksheet.

Book The Relationship Between Self regulation and Perceived Autonomy of Psychological Well being Among Fifth Grade Christian Private School Students

Download or read book The Relationship Between Self regulation and Perceived Autonomy of Psychological Well being Among Fifth Grade Christian Private School Students written by Benedetto Mongiovi III and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increased anxiety, depression, and maladaptive ways of coping among children are evidence of an increase in poor psychological well-being. The purpose of this predictive correlational study was to examine the theory of self-determination that relates natural and intrinsic tendencies of students to behave in an effective and healthy autonomy-supportive way, by examining the predictive relationship of perceived autonomy-support, self-regulation, and psychological well-being of fifth grade Christian private school students. The criterion variable was defined as psychological well-being in this study. The predictor variables were perceived autonomy-support and self-regulation. Data were collected to facilitate this study from 124 fifth grade students using three Likert-type survey instruments. Surveys were distributed and conducted near the end of a school quarter. The results of the research were analyzed using multiple regression. Results indicated that the multiple regression model statistically significantly predicted well-being; however, only perceived autonomy added significantly to the prediction.

Book Investigating Self efficacy and Self regulated Learning as Predictors of Academic Success in College Online Courses

Download or read book Investigating Self efficacy and Self regulated Learning as Predictors of Academic Success in College Online Courses written by Kellie Lynn Templeman and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Online education has been firmly established as a recognized instructional delivery format. From its inception, the participation in online courses has continued to grow exponentially as many brick and mortar higher educational institutions have expanded their online programs. As students are autonomous and independent learners within these environments, it is important to investigate their motivation and self-regulation as these variables affect their academic success. Substantial research has demonstrated self-efficacy and academic success are related, but less is known about the role of self-regulation in relation to self-efficacy and academic outcomes in online classrooms. This study explored how self-efficacy and selfregulation impact academic outcome in fully online courses. Subjects were 563 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in asynchronous online classes at the University of Georgia. Students responded to surveys on motivational beliefs, self-efficacy and metacognitive selfregulation subscales via the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) and an additional survey that probed for task value and self-efficacy in an online environment. Academic outcome was measured by the students’ final end of course grades. Contrary to expectations, results indicated none of the demographic or subscale measures significantly correlated to academic outcome. Thus, the proposed mediation model of self-efficacy leading to self-regulation, which then impacts academic outcome was not able to be performed due to lack of fit. The study included high achieving students and a narrow margin of academic outcomes, which made teasing out self-efficacy and self-regulation effects amongst the sample difficult. While self-regulation has been identified as an important factor in student success in online courses throughout the literature, the findings of this study reflect a weak relationship between self-regulation learning and academic outcome in a sample of high achievers.

Book The Effect of an Individual Learning Plan on Student Achievement Motivation and Self efficacy in Fifth grade Grammar Classrooms

Download or read book The Effect of an Individual Learning Plan on Student Achievement Motivation and Self efficacy in Fifth grade Grammar Classrooms written by Dawn H. Ruff and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) on student achievement, motivation, and self-efficacy. These three research questions shaped the study: To what extent did the ILP impact student academic achievement? To what extent did the ILP impact student motivation, and to what extent did the ILP impact student self-efficacy? The study was conducted in fifth grade grammar classrooms at an independent college preparatory academy in Middle Tennessee. Treatment groups were pre-assessed at the beginning of each grammar unit, and ILP's were developed for study in the skills students needed to acquire. Comparisons of academic achievement showed significance, while motivation and self-efficacy had mixed results.
