Book The Mechanisms of Adsorption of Ag CN 2 and Ag on to Activated Carbon

Download or read book The Mechanisms of Adsorption of Ag CN 2 and Ag on to Activated Carbon written by and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver is adsorbed onto activated carbon from potassium cyanide solution initially in the form of the K+Ag(CN)2- ion pair. Infrared spectra suggest that the cyanide stretching frequency for Ag(CN)2- is shifted to lower wavenumbers upon adsorption, to approximately that of Ag(CN)4 3-. This may be a result of an aggregation of the species on the carbon surface. Boiling in hydrochloric acid results in the formation of AgCN and AgCl. The presence of AgCN is also indicated on Ag(CN)2- -loaded carbons that have dried at temperatures of 120 degrees C or higher. Subsequent treatment with hot sodium hydroxide solution results in the reduction of all of the silver on the carbon to the metallic state, with some desorption of Ag(CN)2-. When silver is loaded onto activated carbon from a silver nitrate solution, adsorption takes place via a dual mechanism, with reduction to metallic silver and precipitation of AgCl both taking place on the carbon surface.

Book Milestones in Powerful Adsorbents of Heavy Metal Ions

Download or read book Milestones in Powerful Adsorbents of Heavy Metal Ions written by Xin-Gui Li and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2024-04-02 with total page 882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serious challenges instigated by pollution are driving research seeking feasible strategies for social, economic, and environmental sustainability. The fascinating science of selective adsorbents of heavy- or precious-metal pollutants such as lead, mercury, gold, and silver ions has attracted investigation by many capable materials scientists, chemists, and environmental engineers, resulting in rapidly increasing progress with time. This book reveals theoretical and practical information that will assist in the study, research, and innovations of effective adsorbents towards toxic and noble metal ions. It allows the reader to pursue an answer to this mystery through interdisciplinary scientific knowledge of material design, synthesis, and environmental purification of strong adsorbents, as has never been presented systematically before, demonstrating the nature of the unique molecular and morphological structures of the adsorbent and how to design and optimize molecular and material structures.

Book excerpt: Recent years have seen an expansion in speciality uses of activated carbons including medicine, filtration, and the purification of liquids and gaseous media. Much of current research and information surrounding the nature and use of activated carbon is scattered throughout various literature, which has created the need for an up-to-date comprehensive and integrated review reference. In this book, special attention is paid to porosities in all forms of carbon, and to the modern-day materials which use activated carbons - including fibres, clothes, felts and monoliths. In addition, the use of activated carbon in its granular and powder forms to facilitate usage in liquid and gaseous media is explored. Activated Carbon will make essential reading for Material Scientists, Chemists and Engineers in academia and industry. - Characterization of porosity - The surface chemistry of the carbons - Methods of activation and mechanisms of adsorptio - Computer modelling of structure and porosity within carbons - Modern instrumental analytical methods

Book Silver Recovery From Assorted Spent Sources Toxicology Of Silver Ions

Download or read book Silver Recovery From Assorted Spent Sources Toxicology Of Silver Ions written by Syed Sabir and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-02-28 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Silver holds three world records; it has the lowest contact resistance, highest electrical conductivity and the best thermal conductivity of all metals. The element's physical strength, brilliance and malleability leads to its many uses from electronics to optical applications.A new 'silver rush' has occurred following the recent discovery that silver, when divided to form particles at the nano scale, can take on new properties. Meanwhile, there has been an increase in regulations against environmental pollution of silver ions toxicity, which have caused numerous diseases and disorders in the marine, microbial, invertebrate and vertebrate community (including humans). Both of which have led to a great interest in silver recovery for both environmental toxicity and an economic point of view.Comprised of ten chapters, this book draws attention to the most advance technologies in silver recovery and recycling from various spent sources, which will appeal to research scientists and metallurgists. The state of the art in recovery of silver from different sources by hydrometallurgical and bio-metallurgical processing and varieties of leaching, cementing, reducing agents, adsorbents, and bio-sorbents are highlighted in this book.
