Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Effects of Bleach and Water Conditions in Laundering of Flame Resistant and Arc Rated Clothing Fabrics

Download or read book Effects of Bleach and Water Conditions in Laundering of Flame Resistant and Arc Rated Clothing Fabrics written by Stacy L. Klausing and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the flame-resistant (FR) industry, it is understood that bleach products are prohibited when caring for FR clothing. ASTM F2757-09(2016), Standard Guide for Home Laundering Care and Maintenance of Flame, Thermal and Arc Resistant Clothing (superseded), instructs users not to use chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, starch, fabric softeners, detergents, or pretreatment products with chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, or derivatives of chlorine bleach or hydrogen peroxide to launder FR clothing. Of the conditions a protective garment is subjected to in its lifetime, washing to maintain clean, useable clothing for longevity is significant. Garments may be laundered more than 50 times in their useful life. This paper, an extension of previous research, summarizes findings on the evaluation of laundry conditions for three different fabrics using oxygen and chlorine bleach and hard (8 gpg) and soft water through three phases. The focused measure of flammability performance in this extension is ASTM D6413, Standard Test Method for Flame Resistance of Textiles (Vertical Test) . Arc testing to ASTM F1959, Standard Test Method for Determining the Arc Rating of Materials for Clothing , was performed on three materials laundered in soft water. This research is combined with a previous study presented at the 10th Symposium on Performance of Protective Clothing and Equipment to include information on the effects of hard water and performance of additional materials commonly used in the FR and arc-resistant workwear industry. In Phases I and II, the strength of samples laundered with chlorine or oxygen bleach in soft water declined, and flame resistance was lost on an 88/12 sample after 100 cycles with chlorine bleach. For Phase III, hard water was introduced to determine whether failure points accelerated. For Phase III, laundry intervals were tightened to better pinpoint failure points.

Book Care and Maintenance of Textile Products Including Apparel and Protective Clothing

Download or read book Care and Maintenance of Textile Products Including Apparel and Protective Clothing written by Rajkishore Nayak and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proper care and maintenance of textile materials is essential in prolonging their durability and appearance. This books describes methods of care and maintenance for textile products, focusing on types of laundering and dry-cleaning processes, chemicals, and equipment, while considering the environmental impacts of these procedures and green cleaning approaches. It details care labelling of garments, including electronic care labelling and instructions for different specialty textiles. Factors such as pilling, abrasion, snagging, color fading, and dimensional change are discussed. This book also emphasizes care and maintenance of textiles used for protection from fire, bullets, cold weather, and chemicals.

Book Effects of Wash Water Temperatures and Drying Methods on the Dimensional Stability and Surface Appearance of Filament Polyester Double Knit Fabrics

Download or read book Effects of Wash Water Temperatures and Drying Methods on the Dimensional Stability and Surface Appearance of Filament Polyester Double Knit Fabrics written by Nancy Ann Palmer and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the increased production and use of double knit fabrics made from textured filament polyester, homemakers have become concerned over procedures for care that can be successfully carried out in the home. The purpose of this study was to determine what effects wash water temperatures and drying methods have on the dimensional stability and surface appearance of filament polyester double knit fabrics. Changes in general physical properties, dimensional change, and surface appearance of four fabrics were studied after ten launderings at three wash water temperatures with two drying methods. Shirts made from two fabrics were worn by nursery school children, laundered ten times, and rated for pilling and snagging. All filament polyester double knit fabrics in this study shrank more when washed in hot water and when dried in the tumble dryer than when washed in warm or cool water and horizontally screen dried. Shrinkage was continuous after five and ten launderings, although at a decreasing rate. All four fabrics had better appearance when laundered in warm or cool wash water and when tumble dried after ten launderings than when washed in hot water and horizontally screen dried. Data indicated that resistance to pilling as tested in the Random Tumble Pilling Tester and snagging on shirts worn and laundered ten times were more dependent upon fabric characteristics and wearing conditions than on laundering conditions. Fabrics won consumer acceptance by parents of nursery school children who participated in the wear study.

Book Laundering Effect on Resin Finished Fabric

Download or read book Laundering Effect on Resin Finished Fabric written by ASIM A. KHAN and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Textile in general and apparel in particular have the highest consumption throughout the world. There are several factors that determine what would be the actual requirement of expenditures on textiles. In all the factors; life of a garment is the most important factor. Here our focus would be on resin finish fabric which comes under the title of special finishes. A garment undergoes several washes during its life cycle. In every washing it is exposed to two factors, one is physical friction and second is the chemicals. Combine effects of physical friction and chemicals reduce the life of the garment. Resins are basically cross linkers which bind with the fabric surface and make a bond with fabric structure and spread over the fabric in form of a thin layer. This layer resists the effects of physical friction and chemicals, with the passage of time and laundering this layer gets weaker and weaker. This book is based on the study of physical and chemicals effects that resin finished fabric undergoes due to successive home laundering. All the observations in form of graphs, pictures and tabular illustrations are included to understand this manuscript.
